We’ve been a few times for food and enjoyed it every time. There is a great selection of food on the main menu and they do a 3 course mid week special for €20 with a great selection on that also. We’ve gone for the steak on the mid week menu a few times, there a €6 supplement on the steak - it is so well worth it & so nicely cooked (we ordered one blue, one rare and one medium rare that all came out cooked perfectly to our request). €26 for 3 courses including the steak is really a fantastic deal! Every time we’ve been the tables are all full with people eating and drinking - definitely a good sign! The service is fab, staff are efficient and super friendly. They have Whispering Angel rosé on the menu which is our favourite - Summer or Winter! Great place to go for a friends or couples dinner and they have a great kids menu too! Would definitely recommend if you are looking for great quality food at a great price with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

A trip to Monaghan called for a trip to my favourite restaurant, Porkys @ The Squealing Pig. The restaurant upstairs is closed mid-week and food is served in the bar downstairs which is very well laid out with lots of space and comfortable seating. We were seated in a booth with very comfy soft leather seating and the pub was spotless. It definitely didn’t feel like a typical pub and felt more like a restaurant. The Christmas decorations were up so that added some festive cheer! Very pleased and reassuring to have a lady check our covid certs and ID at the door. There is an A La Carte Menu which has a great selection of dishes with something for everyone and then they have a really good value mid-week menu with 3 courses for €20. We were a party of 4 and ended up picking from both menus. I had the midweek menu and had garlic mushrooms, Pan -Seared Fillet of Hake followed by Oreo cheesecake, and everything was freshly cooked, very tasty and piping hot. My friends had a mixture of spring rolls and chicken wings as starters and then a Supreme of chicken and steak sandwich for mains, all accompanied by a choice of side dish which included camp, roast vegetables, and a side salad. Their mains were followed by ice cream with hot chocolate sauce and likewise, they were delighted with the food. The service was friendly, efficient, and professional. Overall, a really enjoyable dinner out, excellent food in a very comfortable and safe restaurant. Couldn't ask for more on a Wednesday night!

Absolutely amazing food. Stopped on a long journey instead of going to McDonalds and we think we’ll have to make more long journeys this direction just to eat here! Louisiana Chicken and the Honey Chicken Strips surpassed any expectation, Carribean Fries were outstanding, Champ was delicious. Cocktails were good and the staff were friendly and helpful too, if there were 6 circles available, this place would get them, in fact, all of the circles!

Had the awful experience of pebbles and grit in the salad of the burger.
Had originally went for the ribs from the menu but there was none available and on asking for ribs as starters we were also told they had no ribs for starters too. Opted to go for the burger which was tasty looking unfortunately within a couple of bites ended up finding pebbles and grit in what I believed was the salad dressing on the burger, returned the plate to the staff at the bar showing the pebbles and grit in the plate, a few mins later one lady told us they believed it was also from the salad. Which clearly wasn’t washed or inspected by the catering staff. I was offered another meal and told the meal wouldn’t be added to our bill, surprisingly considering I could of broken my teeth. We were charged for the rest of our meal which included a couple of soft drinks and my partners & childs meal. The food did look good but clearly food preparation is clearly substandard.

We were staying at castle Leslie and decided to come into the town for some food . The restaurant looked nice and we booked for 8pm . We went upstairs and waited on our table at the bar . Once seated it took a while for our actual order to be taken . We had to ask for both the wine menu and cocktail menu . My partner ordered the lamb rump and I ordered a sirloin well done . My partner enjoyed his lamb . My steak wasn’t very nice at all . It was very tough , and chewy . Although I do understand well done steak can affect texture , the taste wasn’t great at all. Burnt rather than well done . The sides were good - we had camp and garlic gratin . I had a daisy cocktail which was nice but nothing special . Friendly young waitress served us .

The food was sublime, the staff were amazing and the atmosphere was electric. We couldn't recommend The Squealing Pig highly enough. We had the pleasure of dining here around Halloween and the decor along with the staffs costumes just topped off an already terrific evening. If you're a sticky toffee pudding lover like myself you better get over to The Squealing Pig ASAP because it has to be one of the best desserts I've ever tasted. Overall we had an absolutely wonderful experience here!!!

Worst food we have had in a long time. Myself, my partner and two friends went to this restaurant yesterday for some lunch. We got chicken wings, and others god crispy honey chicken strips. Firstly the chicken wings were 95% batter 3% bone and 2% chicken. Worst I've had in a very long time.
Every single one of us were sick that evening vomiting and the next morning we were all extremely sick.
Avoid at all costs. We had high hopes looking at the other reviews but simple things like the menus being dirty and the toilets smelling... I'm not surprised we are all sick as the kitchen is probably of a similar hygiene standard.
We will most certainly not be back.

Porkys is , i believe, the best restaurant in Monaghan. Be it a weekend special occasion, or a mid week treat, business or pleasure, it just always hits the spot!. The décor and atmosphere are warm an inviting, and you always feel like the staff appreciate your business every time. The views are great , overlooking the town square, and the menu is wide, and varied. In a town known for great steaks, the squealing pig is the pick of the bunch. The Pork ribs are also a must have, as they are the best Ive ever had. Even if you only have them as a starter , try the ribs!!. Its a gem of a restaurant, great food very reasonable prices, and fantastic friendly staff!!

Despite being busy with locals - always a good sign - service was good in this family owned and operated establishment. The portions were large and very tasty. Wonderful atmosphere and seating in the front window provided a nice view out onto "the diamond".

The BBQ wings were fantastic, the auld saying "if pigs had wings"they would be the ones I had tonight as a starter also available as a main. Had the burger as my main with a portion of chips & side of onion rings. Would really recommend it for a bite to eat & a few pints.

We had dinner here Sunday evening 16th August. The food & service was super .. wings & ribs were a huge hit .. staff very attentive. Went down stairs for cocktails the owner couldn’t be nicer .. had a super evening .. will be back . Highly recommend

We had a delicious meal here. The food was plentiful, the staff were friendly and the service was excellent. On the Saturday night we visited the place the crowd stayed and were joined by others for the music provided by in house DJ

My husband and I ate in The Squealing Pig this evening. It was fantabulous. They more than excelled in their covid 19 regulations. Very impressive and such thought to detail. We felt so safe and comfortable. The food was excellent, very tasty. Without doubt we would highly recommend the food and the ambience and we'll be bk. Well done everyone.😎😍😘

Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon this was a lovely place in the sun on the terrace. My first beer I had to get myself............after that they were brought by a friendly waiter. The pub was full of people, watching football, whole families, including young children. The food that was brought on the terrace looked very good.
