The Gallery is a cool, funky tapas and wine bar with a socially/ecologically-responsible mission that spoke to us. The wine is delicious but marked up quite a bit from the same bottle in a specialty wine shop. The boards provide a huge amount of food for a much more reasonable price. We ordered the grazing board with smoked trout, mackerel and stuffed vine leaves to share between 3 people and were STUFFED. Others in our group order the pakora and veggie burgers which are just made in a microwave oven and quite dry. I wouldn't order any of the hot food from here but its a TAPAS bar and in that regards, it was perfect. Lovely meats, cheese, fruit, and greens. The music is great here too.
Something that really stuck out to our whole party: One of us didn't enjoy his order and told Tom as much. In response, Tom didn't charge him full price, gave him a little gift as we left and asked to stay in touch for further feedback. This was a really positive experience for all of us because it was apparent that the owner genuinely cared about his customers' experience and remedied the situation accordingly. We had a great chat with Tom and his partner and they really left an impression on all of us. Amazing atmosphere and tapas at The Gallery.

Hi Jess,
Just to correct some inaccuracies in your kind review.
I do not own a microwave, I use a really fabulous little electric oven, rated at 1200W. It heats up super quick and is perfect for heating up the handmade vegan bites and vegan burgers to the appropriate temperature.
They are actually made by a wonderful local lady who lived in India for many years and was married to an Indian chap, her dahl is unbelievable too.
I was very surprised to hear your opinion about them, as the feedback from every other guest is exactly the opposite of what is stated in your review.
The charcuterie plate is a taster of ultra-high-end meats, not as suggested, quite rudely on reflection, by the member of your party, as 'available in any supermarket', in front of other diners.
I did, however, adjust the bill accordingly, the meats I serve are ultra-high-end and their price reflects this, please bear this in mind.
A bottle of wine drunk in a specialist wine bar that requires a myriad of costs from insurance to heating to accounting to pest control, alarm systems, etc etc, is obviously going to be more expensive than in a specialty wine shop, take away wine is by definition much less than a wine bought to be consumed in a bar or restaurant.
My wines, by the way, are up to and over €10.00 LESS than exactly the same wines, as found on other specialist menus here in Ireland, this is a fact, but even with this, I am aware that other bar/restaurant owners may have higher premiums.
Many thanks again though, it really was such a treat to have you all as our guests and we really look forward to meeting you all again for further informative, direct and cultured conversations, and PS hope you enjoyed the lockdown mix, there's not many places you can get that kind of service. ;)
Blessings,
Tom

I found The Gallery by accident but I am so glad I did. Myself and my husband had the most amazing sharing board we’ve ever had with a fab bottle of wine recommended by Tom. He was so friendly and helpful and the restaurant had the most relaxed atmosphere. We sat and chatted and ate and drank for hours and would happily recommend The Gallery to anyone who’s going to Westport.

We had an absolutely brilliant night in The Gallery. Tom seems to spend a lot of time on sourcing some of the best quality food and mostly all local suppliers. We had the grazing plate to share and have never been hit with so many different tastes and flavours on one dish. All top quality and the rare wines were just as good. We had beautiful bottle or two of organic Rioja. The two hosts are very welcoming and had all guests chatting away throughout the restaurant. The music set the ambience and the only part of the night that outdone the food was Tom's top quality jokes and stories 😂😂.

We were on a staycation is Westport. The Gallery was recommended on google as a “wine and tapas bar”.
Based on the reviews we had high expectations but we walked away at the end of the evening feeling ripped off for the the following reasons:
The menu was pretentious but the food was completely unremarkable. We ordered a grazing board for two which was nice, but for a bold pricepoint of 32, we would expect a third of the board not to consist of dressed salad leaves, and another third made up of ‘organic’ dried fruits (sad dates, sugary papaya). The cheeses were very tasty but reign it in and price it accordingly in the 18-20 quid region.
The service left a lot to be desired. We had to ask for the table to be cleared, we had to ask for fresh side plates (didn’t bother with new cutlery) to eat our “main courses” and we also drank Prosecco out of wine glasses which is ironic considering the ‘wine bar’ status. Also no replacement of glasses after moving onto our 34 quid bottle of wine.
And sticking to the topic of wine, again it’s a ‘wine bar’ not a ‘restaurant’ (one must remember) - and yet the two bottles of listed wines we chose to order were not in stock. Maybe a random once-off....but certainly raised an eyebrow....
In short, this was a remarkably unremarkable drinking and dining experience. This is not a restaurant. This is a racket. Whatever the intentions of the owner, the end product was lacklustre and we wished we’d booked somewhere else for a last night in the stunning Westport.

The Gallery is a totally unique and special place that for the most part attracts 5* guests. We welcome each guest as though they are coming into our home, because, in a way, they are doing exactly that. Ironically for you, at the end of service last night, a couple that had been dining with us, (that also had one of my 'amazing grazing' boards and absolutely LOVED IT), took time to comment that the service, was the best they have come across in the 10+yrs of (them) working in top hotels...Irony indeed!
If I wasn't confident in my products, service or wines, I might take this kind of review seriously, however, I stand by all of my producers, all the wine growers, and in the quality and genuine service I and my staff provide. I also am aware that my lovely bar is a unique place, supported by the consistently genuine 5* reviews I get.
It really helps to look at the website of the place you are visiting, this helps you to make a decision as to whether the place is going to be suitable for your needs. I find it amazing how many people actually haven't even looked at what I serve here, I am flabbergasted that people blindly book into places and expect something else when they arrive.
If you want a friendly, genuine service in a very relaxed, funky and unique atmosphere, The Gallery is most definitely for you. If you realise that high quality products are priced accordingly and that small scale wine producers do in fact run out of vintage, then my wonderful bar is for you. If we are busy, we can't pander to your every need, you are adults, not little babies, that said, we will do our best to give you the best service possible and ensure that you have a really lovely time, as my reviews show! The vibe is real, unfiltered and organic, like our food and wines!
In terms of service, we don't like to jump on tables immediately to get them cleared, our guests are generally laid back and can see that we are doing our best to serve everyone equally, professionally and in a friendly way, which we do. So what if you had to ask us to clear your table, you'd not long finished your grazing board before I came to give you your pizzas, or 'main courses' as you put it. Jumped up, self-absorbed, spoilt, unmannerly, rude and obnoxious sprang to mind when dealing with your table. In fact when discussing all the lovely people we had in last night, your table stood out as having 'really bad energy'. We actually didn't want to go near you because your energy was so bad, your 1* review on here is a total reflection of this.
Every other guest we had in last night really enjoyed themselves, they had pizzas, grazing boards (just like yours) and wine and cheer, strange how they all had a great experience. You have a choice, you can either carry on being bitter or you can open your heart and learn to embrace the joy of life...
The boards are not €32.00 by the way, they are €38.95 this price reflects the high quality and amount of ingredients on these boards. They are tremendous value. They are priced accordingly, your comments are laughable and reflect, either the extremely sad, and unhappy state of your being, or your total lack of awareness of the price of high quality products, or both. The dates are organic btw, not sad at all, tasty and a fine addition to the boards. I don't need to justify my grazing boards, people love them as my genuine reviews show.
Most people just use their plates for the pizzas too after finishing their boards, you asked for new side plates, so I brought them, didn't bother with cutlery as you had some already and it's pizza, most people just eat it with their hands, when I came back with your new side plates, you'd eaten most of the pizza anyway, not surprising, guests feedback that they are delicious.
In terms of certain wines being unavailable, yes bottles can run out of stock, the wines I sell are made by small scale artisan farmers, some only producing 800 or so BOTTLES of each vintage, so yes, it does run out, some of the wines are on allocation only, meaning that Ireland, as a country, only gets a certain amount (as little as 60 bottles in some cases). Your comments really show a total lack of understanding about what I do here and how I do it, especially in regards to natural, organic, biodynamically farmed, small-scale wines. I don't serve mass-produced 'dead' wines from massive monocultural push-button operations. THIS IS A WINE BAR.
As for your natural Prosecco being served in 'normal' wine glasses, this is the best way to serve sparkling wines; flutes and wide circumference glasses reduce the capacity to actually taste the wine. Now you know ;)
I serve my bubbles in my wine glasses and will continue to do so, precisely BECAUSE THIS IS A WINE BAR! Again, irony indeed, thanks for providing me with such unwitting humour!!!
This is not a restaurant and has never claimed to be one! Irony indeed!
There was really no need to change glasses either, so we didn't, I generally don't bother changing glasses unless going from a red to a white or in case of residual sediment.
We really wished that you hadn't come as well, your energy was really, really negative, we realised this immediately, yet as professionals, we gave you the exact same polite and genuine service we give everyone. I even wonder whether your being here last night was a 'hatchet' job, an attempt to belittle or put down my business in a manipulative and purposeful way.
Calling my place a racket is laughable, all the wonderful comments that my genuine customers give, even as I have evolved the business, have one consistent denominator, I offer genuine heart and soul into what I do and in terms of the intention of the business owner, i.e. me, it is my intention to offer a beautiful space, in a relaxed, welcoming and genuine environment, for nice people to enjoy some of the world's finest natural wines and equally tasty high end small scale, food products, sourced as organically and locally as possible, whilst offering something different.
This is what I do, this is what I do very well for the most part, this is not self-serving, this is based on years of practice, refinement and experience and of ultimately being human.
I suggest some mindfulness training, meditation or something that might help you cultivate kindness.
Now, readers, may I look forward to welcoming GENUINE guests that wish to experience the unique vibe of THE GALLERY WINE & TAPAS BAR!
Look at the website for the food menu and to get an idea of the kind of vibe my little bar has.
Thanks to all my genuine customers, guests and ultimately friends from over the years, you really are 5*
When will people learn that their reviews reflect on them!
Be kind to yourselves x
Tom

I ate here with my wife recently and it is something very different to anything I've experienced before. The owner was in situ engaging with every customer in a very genuine and friendly manner and it was clear that our enjoyment of his hospitality and establishment were of paramount importance to him. He recommended various dishes which all sounded very much to our liking and as expected it was all excellent. It is a wacky place and well well worth a visit.

Just began our Atlantic Way trip with a fantastic evening at this little gem...Tom served up excellent wine which suited our very different palettes and the sharing board was just overflowing with fresh, filling and tasty produce..we even met the local cheese maker ! Very chilled and relaxed ambient atmosphere with great music in the background teamed with witty chat/jokes/puns/craic from owner Tom and the lovely Paul (spring onion cultivator/coleslaw chef/tea towel artist...man of many talents! ) we loved this place, a great find, will definitely be back, give it a visit, you’ll love it.

We ate in The Gallery last night and had a wonderful experience. A Primitivo wine with small plates and a grazing cheese board were all excellent and is very good value for the quality of wine and food!! But what makes the place special is the personal attention by the owner Tom and his partner. Tom proudly explains where all his food is sourced and is mostly organic. I would highly recommend this place if visiting Westport.👍

Nice atmosphere and great wine, but was expecting more from the food and service. Menu is very limited due to there being no proper kitchen facilities and found the service a bit hap-hazard.
We were never approached to see how our food was and if wanted/would like anything else. This the least I would expect, given the price of the food/wine.

You should have checked my online menu prior to visiting before moaning about it here, that's generally what people do.
I don't need kitchen facilities as I have a massive slab of solid Connemara stone to prepare my amazing grazing boards, made with multiple award-winning cheese and charcuterie, along with other ultra-high-end artisanal/local/organic/wild foraged products.
It was very busy this week and last month too, and I ensure that each and every guest is well looked after as much as possible, sometimes it's not always possible to chat with every guest though, especially when it's busy. If you needed something, you could have asked us as we passed by.
The price of my wine is up to €10+ less in price than as served on other wine menus in Ireland, practice more gratitude in future, and cop on, it's hard enough to keep a business going and especially in these challenging and uncertain times.
I generally find a 3* review reflects same in the person leaving the review. Nearly all my guests are 5*, which is why there's generally a mighty bit of craic going on.

Nestled in a quite alleyway, just off the Newport road in Westport town, lies this unpretentious quaint restaurant.
We booked a table for 8pm and were seated at a table for two, surrounded by Vinyl Albums, cosy cushions, it seemed like a throw-back to a Hippy era with plenty of warmth and friendliness.
Beware the menu is not your standard fare; it does not follow the standard layout, but is limited.
We settled for a Grazing Platter for two and on the house recommendation a bottle of Red Rijoca wine.
The platter arrived and was like a small buffet with a selection of local cheeses, meats, dips and salads. More than enough to satisfy the largest of appetites.
The manager came over and explained everything to us and where they came from (done in a friendly and non condescending manner)
Our wine was superb and very fruity and fulfilled the recommendation perfectly.
Indeed the two staff members were really nice and efficient.
Our Total bill of €73. Was a nice surprise for great food and a wonderful experience?

Came across The Gallery while looking around Wesport. Saw all the records and seating layout and decided to come back that evening.
What a find.
The 2 guys were really friendly and good fun. We ordered the tasting menu for 2 (as recommended), as we were unsure of what we wanted to eat. That with a bottle of red wine. A great success!
The food combination was excellent
Have visited Westport many times but never been to The Gallery.
Will be back

There is a photo on their website showing a mixed tapas plate. So we ordered that. I think it was called Grazing Board. Tom, possibly the owner, made up a plate for us which was just superb. The accompanying bottle of wine (Gran Cerdo) was a lovely complimentary drink. Absolutely not to be missed.

We had dined already and were drawn by the sound of funky music and a warm, inviting outdoor area. The extensive vinyl record collection and board games settled it. Talking to the owner, his passion for his all natural wine selection really showed and we duly sat down and indulged a couple of hours of connect four (our eleven year old dominated.... Maybe to much of the afore mentioned natural wine) , good sounds and great repartee from the staff. You have to stop here, even if it's just for the a good, old fashioned board game.

Visit with an open mind and the expectation that this isn't your typical restaurant experience and you will have a wonderful time.
My husband and I visited for dinner. The wine and food was fantastic, despite the lack of an onsite kitchen. There are loads of vegan options which was great for me. We tried 3 and all were super. Falafel can be boring when you're vegan as it's often the vegan option, but the ones here were different and so delicious.
The wine we had was lovely. Ivy and Tom were very generous giving us tastes of different ones until we found what we liked. The passion and love they goes into the food and wine here is obvious.
Yes, the service is a bit scatty but it's part of the experience. It's like going to a friend's house for dinner rather than a restaurant (but a friend with really good food and wine!) as Ivy and Tom make you feel right at home. We will be back.

We had amazing evening in wine gallery last night. The outdoor place is very well made with beautiful herbs and cosy atmosphere. The meal was a great experience with a wide selection of a taste on one plate. We enjoyed every bite of it 😉. The staff are very passionate and definitely made out evening even better with very warm welcome, help with selection of the wine and tapas. Hidden gem in Westport. We will be back

We wanted something a little out of the ordinary, and boy did we find it! We stopped in the night before to make a reservation, and we were really glad that we did. Friday evening at 7 pm and the place was full (I think there are only 5 tables). The staff are hilarious, cracking jokes while bustling around, and adding to the enjoyment of the evening. The cheese board was a magnificent collection of cheeses, meats, nuts and fruits, with a large salad in the middle, and it managed to fill up even my husband who has a very large appetite. We also enjoyed the marinated mushrooms and aubergine dishes, but were a little surprised to find that they're served cold. Background music of jazz was provided by the turntable, and apparently they sell vinyl records also. This was a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
