Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A restaurant is judged ( or should be) on its food and Sage did not disappoint! Wonderful presentation and very well cooked food was the order of the day! Steak and Cod were our orders and we were impressed with both!! Soup and Goat’s Cheese...Bon Bons were equally impressive starters! The only downside to this wonderful restaurant is the dining area which was full ( great) but very noisy ( due to it being basically a large rectangular room) Slightly disappointing aesthetics ( I felt it it was lit poorly ( my wife disagreed). Lovely informative server. Tad pricey!More

Gorgeous restaurant. Friendly welcoming staff. The food was amazing, best meal we had in Westport. The lamb was delicious.

We entered the restaurant and were seated by a lady who told us the specials. ( I believe she may have been the owner ) We were given the menus and we looked through them….. I’m allergic to shellfish so that narrowed my choices straight...off, as I didn’t want green salad or goats cheese. I opted for soup, which was below average, it resembled something out of a baby’s nappy ( also the thick Luke warm globular consistency )the taste wasn’t much better than the look tbh. We had been given a plate with a piece of butter the size of a 10pence piece. The bread selection consisted of 2 and a half thumb sized pieces of white bread and a 2x2 inch slice of brown wheaten type bread to share… yippee When ordering I did notice on the vegetarian menu that they served Gnocchi as a main, so I asked the male waiter if there was any chance of having a half portion as a starter, he said he would ask and came back to tell me no!! Why - I can’t understand?? I then ordered the soup followed by gnocchi. The meal was mediocre. The service from the male server was pleasant, but the owner seemed to be full of her own self importance. My husband had scallops for his starter, but it was a matter of finding the scallop, when he finally found a scallop, just one, it was seemingly lovely. He had duck for mains which he said was ok. I honestly wouldn’t recommend here, it lacks everything, no music, atmosphere or anything else. If yous wish to eat in Westport go to Pantry and Corkscrew down round the corner, everything in it is amazing from staff, ambience, food and priceMore

We were trying to arrange a meal for a catchup with friends from Australia. The restaurant we were hoping to go to didn’t open on a Tuesday so it was for that reason that we found and made a reservation at Sage. When we arrived...the restaurant was full and it wasn’t long before we realised why. The greeting from the front of house team was splendid as was the continued service throughout evening, and we were last to leave. The menu offerings were interesting and not too many (just enough). The team were very aware of the menu but also communicated with the kitchen for our dietary needs. The food was superb and absolutely delicious. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and our evening at Sage. Four very happy people. Can’t wait to go again.More

Fantastic meal, lovely friendly service. Took advantage of the early bird menu options (2 course for €32) - there is a three course option as well for €37. Even though it is a shortened menu compared to their extensive al la carte menu there was...enough variety of meat, and fish dishes and vegetarian option to choose from for mains. My wife said it was her favourite main meal of our week in Mayo (high praise given the excellent quality of food we had in other restaurants around Mayo). Even though it was the early bird period - the restaurant was soon very busy and people turning up who had not booked were being turned away. So you need to book in advance to guarantee a table, and avoid disappointment. We had a main and a desert, plus my wife had a cocktail and a glass of lovely Bulgarian wine. I had a local craft beer, plus a glass of the same wine, and I also paid a supplement of €3 for a "special" dessert which all totalled to €98.50. All the staff were very polite and friendly. Highly recommend Sage Restaurant and will certainly return when back in the area again, hopefully next year. Lucky locals!More

We had 3 apps and 2 entrees- each distinctive and fantastic. Mussels, goat cheese and seafood dumplings were fantastic starters. Slow braised beef cheeks with a velvety rich sauce and chicken with a delicious mushroom sauce were spectacular! Super friendly staff too!

We took advantage of the early bird menu here. Pre-booked online - an easy process - and arrived to find a bustling restaurant. I had the soup (apple and parsnip) while herself had the mussels. Followed this up with the Chicken Supreme and Pollock. Exceptionally...cooked with great presentation. Decor was nice, service was great and food was top notch. We were planning on doing two courses but decided on the three as it was so enjoyable. Glass of wine and a bottle of the local Mescan went down well. Fine dining at a very reasonable price. Excellent restaurant that a few others in the town should be taking lessons from.More

This is an intimate, classy restaurant with an imaginative take on Irish-continental cuisine. The menu wasn't overly long, but there were quite a few tempting appetizers and mains. I just had two courses (soup and a seafood entree), both of which were delicious, and one...glass of wine. Not inexpensive, but worth it given the quality. Service was courteous and timely. For a modest splurge, it was an excellent choice (recommended by the front desk at my hotel, the Wyatt).More

We were treated to entrements as well which was a lovely surprise. Very good value for the...lovely experience. If you are visiting Westport be sure to pre book your table as it's very busy.More
