We Went with son, daughter in law and 2 grandchildren. The menu was very good no children’s selection but were told we could have children’s portions of anything on menu. Theirs was delicious. Ours was excellent the starters were delicious and the fillet medallion was...absolutely excellent. We all had different meals and everyone was really pleased with their choice. Service was very professional and everything came out together as ordered. The background music was brilliant and varied and we throughly enjoyed the evening.More

This restaurant is simply perfect. The standard of service and the well thought out menu is fantastic. The menu is outstanding and we honestly struggled when deciding what to order..we wanted to try it all! The goats cheese starter was divine, so much flavour and...the presentation simple but full of complex flavours. For main I opted for the rack of lamb - perfection! The wine selection is extensive and the beautiful lady serving our table took her time explaining all options to us. The chef introduced himself after our meal and stayed chatting for a while. If visiting the area you MUST make Bistrot 1798 tip of your list - it is hands down the best restaurant in Castlebar.More

We went here with my husbands parents and sister for Sunday lunch. The food was wonderful and everyone was very impressed with their meal. I had monkfish with mussels The lamb shank just fell off the bone. The goats cheese starter and homemade soap with...homemade bread were a meal in themselves, but we kept going and even had a dessert although we didn't need one!! Would highly recommend and will return. Best meal I've had in Castlebar .More

We booked a casual night out here, and were warmly greeted on arrival. Knowing my predilection for lobster, they had procured some. I had a smoked salmon and avocado starter, my wife having the really beautiful brown bread supplied. The starter was faultless. I had...intended to have the only red by the glass, but Marzena produced a half bottle of a lovely Bordeaux. My wife had a fabulous monkfish and mussel main course, while I enjoyed a great lobster with a salad. We finished with a crème brûlée and ice cream, and a selection of ice creams for me. A complimentary glass of wine and an espresso completed a memorable meal. We would highly recommend this lovely little restaurant.More

Excellent food. I had the monkfish served with mussels and pink peppercorn sauce — delicious! Helpful and friendly staff. Overall, great value for money. There aren’t many tables so booking is definitely recommended.
