My husband and I randomly stopped here while driving to Limerick and it is one of our best memories from our trip. We had a pint at the bar and enjoyed conversation with locals from the town who couldn't have been more friendly and informative....We were even invited to share a toast and cupcake with a group celebrating a friend's 40th birthday. Lovely!More
Waited 30 minutes despite no other customers for fish and chips and supposed to be sirloin steak, you could see the veins in the meat not edable disgusting to be served such a meal. Should be inspected and closed down.
We were looking for lunch options near the Flying Boat museum and dropped in here. Ordered Chinese as well as Irish. The food was tasteless and smelt. The place smelt bad too. At the end of the meal, we all agreed that the choice of...restaurant was a bad one. Staff was friendly, though. That is why the rating is not Terrible.More
Not too much choice of places to eat in Foynes but we went to Shannon House based on Tripadvisor ratings
Basically a pub restaurant with restaurant area just off the bar area
Interesting choice of traditional Irish or Chinese cuisine?
We chose Chinese stir fry/fried...rice meals which were well cooked with fresh vegetables and ok
Nothing special but quite late at night while travelling it did the trickMore
I went to the Shannon House a number of times for a few drinks only whilst staying in Foynes.
On the whole the beer is OK, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is comfortable.
The only trouble is the place does not smell too...nice. I have heard it described as smelling like a used rabbit hutch on a number of occasions.More
I was touring around with the Princesses for the Bank Holiday weekend last and as usual, no matter how many times one asks or instructs the Princesses to prepare for a journey, there's always the "I need to go to the toilet," somewhere en route....It happened late in the evening (after 6) a few Kilometers east of Foynes so on we went in search of facilities. We spotted the Shannon House on the right as we came through the town and decided that this was our only hope.
Now usually, we would purchase something before availing of any establishments facilities, but it being late and with still a considerable distance to travel we took a chance and explained to the kind young barmaid our predicament.
She couldn't have been more helpful, even showing said Princess to the toilet door and allowing me to wait outside.
It's not everyday you see such kindness and understanding when travelling around with 2 young children and for this I am grateful.
I will certainly stop at the Shannon House for refreshments on my next visit to Foynes and have no doubt that the experience will be even more enjoyable.More
Had lunch here before visiting museum. The chowder was excellent. We also had pork, fish and chips, lamb shank all very tasty hot and great value. The staff were outstanding nothing to much trouble and the management were attentive without being overly intrusive. A great...start to visiting the flying boat museum. Will be back soon. Thanks.More
Food excellent, Guinness excellent, but for the birthplace of Irish Coffee, they haven't a clue. I was in Foynes for the Air Show, 26 July 2015, place was packed full of people food and drinks flowing everyone in our party was having a great time....Wait staff were friendly, and efficient.
I have been to other Pubs and restaurants in Ireland and for the Foynes Irish Coffee festival (sadly it's not on any more), so I've had my share of excellent Irish Coffee to make the comparisonMore
