After dinner, we weren't quite ready to go to bed, but Kilkenny is a small somewhat sleepy town and at 8pm there wasn't much open, plus it seemed like only a few bars would be open late night. By 9pm, we decided to check out The Field because of the live Irish singer/guitarist and lively group inside. We were greeting by the young crowd singing along to their favorite Irish songs (fun vibes). A little later, the younger group filed out to the front patio, the musician packed up, and the vibe calmed down a bit inside.

Absolutely wonderful time at The Field! We spent two nights in Kilkenny with some friends and stopped in the Field both days/nights. They had live music both nights starting at 6 making the experience that much better. The staff was fantastic making us feel right at home! Especially Kim the bartender! Attentive and fun! We were also lucky to be introduced to John the owner, who took the time to share many stories and a drink or two with us. The bar itself is filled with so much memorabilia all over the walls and ceiling. Highly recommend for a true Irish pub experience. Great craic!!

We popped in for a drink as it was my partners birthday after being at the Savour food festival. We sat at the bar enjoyed the surrounding especially the gigantic hurl above our heads !!
Got chatting to the brilliant bar lady 'Mary' and had a great laugh with herself and some customers. Mary shouted up the the singer to wish my partner a happy birthday and the whole pub sang. Such a laugh and very thankful. Super atmosphere.

Would never return here. We picked here as it advertised a blaa club sandwich which we ordered. Waited approximately 40 mins and were given a cold hard toasted sandwich when staff were asked about this they shrugged their shoulder and walked away. We spoke to another member of staff to inform them our order was wrong - they returned 10 mins later and said the chef said there’s no blaa left. No apologies etc... we left as food was inedible and not what we ordered or wanted either. Table next to us of about 6 kept asking about a burger as everyone else was finished eating to eventually be told they were out of burgers. Would not recommend under any circumstances.

I’ll start by saying we didn’t eat here, so I have no opinion on the food. We barely drank here since the manager was so incredibly rude. We were on a trip to Ireland, had read good things about The Field and decided to make it a stop during our time in Kilkenny. The staff member at the front door was kind, we stepped in and ordered a round of drinks at the bar, then sat at a small table right near the door. A young guy came up to move one of the tables, which we gently teased him about, but they had entertainment coming in and needed to make space (very fair). So the 4 of us sat at the remaining small square table, with tall stools, to enjoy our drink.
After a couple minutes a very angry looking man comes up from the back and starts talking to the staff member at the front door, right beside us and very loudly, saying “this table needs to get moved, push it back up against the wall!”. He didn’t come say anything to us, just kept yelling at his staff saying that it needed to get moved. So we stood up to move the table back (since we could obviously hear him), and angry manager comes barging over and yells at us “you thinking this table is here for you to just sit around and be in the way!!” and storms off. I have never been so upset as a patron of any establishment and immediately left.
Don’t waste your time on this stop!

This is an absolute gem in the crown of Kilkenny
What once was a kicking pub hit by the current covid19 climate.
They have managed to keep this place as the Jewel in the crown.
Not as many visitors allowed in but a super warm welcome is still guaranteed
Fine fodder before the quality beers available.

Nice little bar with lots of sport and cultural memorabilia. The staff are friendly and the service is great Unfortunately, the owners still have not addressed the stinking toilets. It really let's the place down and has been like this for years.

My wife and I stopped in here for lunch one day while on our month long tour of Ireland. Not only was the waitress/bartender fantastic, we literally had the best chicken wings we’ve EVER had!! This place added to the many reasons Kilkenny was our favorite place!!

Popped in on a Saturday afternoon on a Bank Long Weekend holiday. If you’re happy with loud, ‘elbows out’ atmosphere in an intimate local pub then this place is the place to be. It’s raw, authentic and unpretentious….

The Field Bar was our first experience in an Irish Pub on our first night in Kilkenny! This is one of several pubs, but the live music drew us in. It was small, crowded and loud but the perfect atmosphere to enjoy our first pint of beer. The live music was great!

After a visit to Kilkenny castle, we walked downtown for a quick lunch. The Field looking appealing, and you almost walk straight to it from the castle. My wife had the soup, and I had the hamburger & chips. We both thought the food was good, and they had Kilkenny lager on tap, which was a bonus. They were a little busy, but we had no problem getting in and out quick enough to make our tour bus. Good stop if you're in town.

Visiting Kilkenny with a group of friends and discovered this gem of a pub. Brilliant live music, atmosphere and of course beverages.
Would like to say a special thanks to Adam on the door who was very helpful to us, (top man, a real asset to the premises)

My son picked this spot for his first Guinness in Ireland and he chose a winner. We had a really good lunch (Sheppard's Pie and Fish and Chips) and the beer was tremendous. Really nice and friendly staff that make you feel like its home - even if you have never been there before!

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at The Field in Kilkenny. John, the owner, is friendly and quite the hurler. After the 5:00PM entertainment was over, three locals came in with their instruments and continued playing well into the night. Great time had by all! Reasonably priced food and drink.
