From wherever your are standing on the High Street in Kilkenny, a few minutes walk will get you to the most famous of all the slips, the Butterslip Lane and to Petronella, the city's most recently opened Restaurant-Cafe. Over four hundred years ago horse drawn carriages trundled down this thoroughfare. The charming slip with its pretty name is steeped in history and worn with footfall and remains so today. Duck under the archway and just on the right Petronella is becoming a regular for those who have discovered her. Guest Book entries already bear testament to culinary experiences from both near and far, the last entry from a diner from Seattle says 'as a chef I can truly recommend the cuisine…

Fantastic meal, food was cooked perfectly. I had the steak which was full of flavour. Starters and desert were fantastic also. Staff were not afraid to recommend a dish which I was delighted with. Vegetarian menu was excellent. Top quality food, service and choice make...this one of my favourite places to have visited. I will definitely be back. I picked this restaurant based on these reviews and I am delighted I did.More
Such a lovely restaurant! The staff were lovely and so helpful with the menu and my dietary requirements. Lots of vegan but also gluten free options. We also got to meet Frank the owner, who was very kind and welcoming and even gave us chocolates...when we were leaving. 100% will recommend this had such a good experience 😊More
An absolute gem! Myself and my partner found this restaurant online while looking for somewhere nice but safe during our stay in Kilkenny. Not only was the food delicious... but with all the Covid precautions that Frank and his team have in place we felt...extremely safe.
My partner was eyeing the pappardelle on the menu but isn’t a big fan of chorizo... no problems they swapped it out for chicken.. nothing seem to be a hassle! Felt like only family friends, Frank is kind and an excellent host. The only disappointment was that we were too full to fit in dessert!More
My husband and I came to Kilkenny for a break and we happened to find this secretly hidden restaurant located in the narrow medieval corridor Buttler slip.
When we arrived to the restaurant (previously booked) we were greeted by our names, and Frank made us...feel extremely welcome, in the same way a friend would open the door of their homes.
If you want a place to eat out where you won't be disappointed and which has a vary menu to cater for all taste this is the place to come. The service and the food was exceptional, top class. The portions are very generous and they check on you regularly to make sure everything is okay.
My husband tried the Yellow japuir curry and he was delighted. I had the chickpea patty and was beautiful. Frank also brought homemade crunchy fries (the biggest ones I have ever seen) and they were lovely too. For dessert, my husband had the death by chocolate (chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream), and myself the lemon torte with vanilla ice cream. No words. You will have to come to taste it yourself.
Last but not least, the atmosphere and the environment are very cozy. We were so happy with everything we are going back tonight in our last night in the city.
We will definitely come back on our next visit to Kilkenny. I would advise anyone to come here for dinner.More
I visited here for the second time with my husband.
As far as covid regualtions-the restaurant is well spaced out and the tables have perspex between them. These are actually very tastefully done with the restaurants logo. We had our meal and were leaving within...the allocated time and at no point we're we made to feel uncomfortable or that we were under pressure for time.
The food was lovely. We both had brie and for mains we had steak and pork belly. The brie was good but not the best I've ever had. Both mains were delicious.
The girl that served us was lovely and bubbly.
We were not disappointed and will definitely eat here again should be in kilkennyMore
