My husband & I had a chance to eat lunch here when our tour group with Gate 1 Travel stopped for a day excursion in Kilkenny before heading to Dublin. After we rode the Kilkenny City Train, we explored the Kilkenny Castle. We strolled around town until we came upon this delightful and attractive cafe/bistro.. The Fig Tree Restaurant. We were seated to a table at the front entrance and a friendly server took our orders immediately. My husband ordered the burger with fries plus a soda. I ordered the hot slow cooked pulled pork on a bun plus fries and a soda. The burger and pulled pork were served on attractive trays and the pulled pork was served with the lettuce & tomato on the side topped with a secret house sauce and a bucket of fries...neat! I must add, the lunch was delicious and the buns were very flavorful. There are additional dining areas upstairs + restrooms. All in all, another great, friendly experience on our travels throughout Ireland.

We were in Kilkenny with friends to see the castle and local area. We called into The Fig Tree for something simple to eat as a late lunch. The service and the food was excellent, the staff were very attentive to our needs and served us well. We had the Panini’s ( Classic and Piri Piri Chicken) great portion sizes, just enough, not too much. Great little place. We will call again when we are in the area.

Out for a Sunday stroll myself and hubby stopped in to warm up. Leek & courgette soup was soup of the day (? If it was actually Leek & potato) and was really yummy. We tasted it before ordering with no hesitation from the waitress when we asked to do so. Our toasted sandwiches were awesome. Piping hot and full of flavour. Reasonably priced too. We’ll be back!

Went for breakfast. When we inquired about a table upstairs, the server, who appeared to be the manager told us “you’re lucky to get a table at all”, even though it was visible that there was plenty of availability upstairs. His demeanour and tone was very condescending and took the goodness out of what is normally a great place to eat!

I was saddened to see your review. Yes it was I who met you at the door and I did say to you that you were lucky to get a table as we were full except for one table for four on the top floor which I had to give to the family of three that were also waiting behind you. I apologise if the way I said it came out wrong that was not my intention I would never be rude to my customers, but we were full except for those two tables. I know that while you were seated some tables started to come free upstairs but they were certainly not free when you came in. I spoke to you when you came to pay and I said to you unfortunately you came in at the wrong time for a table upstairs to which you replied a sure that's the way and left, its a pity you did not say how you felt then and I would have said sorry if I did not come across in a friendlier manor. I do hope you will be back. Kind Regards. Thomas

Could not fault the food it was delicious. But would not go back as the staff are just beyond rude. It seems the staff need serious training in how to speak to customers. Left without desert as when asked for desert menu the staff member looked at us like we had ten heads and was no help, when ordering food she was also very rude. When paying for the food a different male staff member was also very rude would not return!!!

Called by for lunch on route to Waterford. Had our research done and knew there were gluten free options which there were many of. Opted for the BLT which was served on gluten free bread and we shared a gluten free scone for afters. Definitely will call again as so many more dishes or try. Staff lovely and prices very reasonable.

This is a place of excelence. Crazy fast service, delicious foods, honest pricing. Compact menu, but accomodating people with different needs, like vegetarians and people with celiac disease. Perfect compliance with covid rules, rigorously clean. Love it.

Great gluten free options at the Fig Tree restaurant. Just had breakfast there this morning and it was great. Almost everything on the menu is available in gluten free. Staff very friendly and reasonably priced.

We stopped for a quick morning break, baked goods were very good and they have a good assortment of teas and coffee. One bad point is that when going to the bathroom on the upper floor I saw some moms among the tables changing their babies' diapers there. Highly unhygienic, stench of diapers made my stomach turn and it was not pleasant to see its contents.

A short walk from the Dromoland Castle was the Fig Tree Restaurant. It’s actually the golf course’s restaurant so dining there is very casual. The service was fine and the food was very good. The pasta dish rivaled any in Italy.

Great breakfast good size portions good service and for €11 well worth every penny. If I was ever back in Kilkenny I would definitely be back again. There was 7 of us and they could accommodate us not a problem.

In short, this cafe was not as good as I hoped. The atmosphere was awkwardly quiet, not cozy, and the plastic guards for the kitchen were imposing. The staff was polite but not overly friendly. The food was good, no complaints on taste, but didn’t feel worth the cost. Just generally “meh”. I’m bummed we chose to try this place (based on trip advisor reviews) rather than somewhere else.

Great little spot in the heart of Kilkenny. We were promptly seated for an early lunch/late breakfast. The staff was welcoming upon arrival, the atmosphere was bright and cheery, and the menu was extensive. We had a nice cappuccino, a scone, BLT, and bagel with bacon/cream cheese. Everything was delicious- scone was fresh out of the oven and the BLT was a perfect segway to lunch. Cant wait to return!

While on a tour last year my mother-in-law and I found this gem and had the best lunch ever! We fell in love with their soup of the day which was squash and sweet potatoe along with some fresh brown bread. Now that's it's fall, we'd love to make this at home and are hoping the chef can share the receipe. I highly recommend The Fig Restaurant!
