Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband being a Hackett, this was his bucket list item for the year. Believe me that meeting Tommy and John were an absolute joy! Tommy invited James behind the bar and taught him how to pour a proper Guinness!!! Thanks to Tommy and John for making our trip across the pond a real dream come true

I went to Kilkenny for my daughter in-law to be hen's in march on the first day we visited Hackett's bar we were made to feel so welcome they couldn't do enough for us, played any songs we asked for and put up with our singing 😂 we were back there the next day to do the cube game upstairs which again they couldn't do enough for us Tommy the owner and Lauren and Sarah the bar girls went above and beyond for us , I have to say we had the best 2 day's and the Guinness was lovely, I would definitely recommend a visit to here if you are ever in the area

We stopped in for a pint, and frankly to use the rest rooms. The local hurling match was on and it was fun to watch it with the locals. They watched with the same passion as my husband watches football. We couldn't help but stay and cheer and moan with them. Unfortunately their team lost.

Recommended by a local when we stopped and asked him in the street for good local bars. He was right. Great place to visit, friendly and very hospitable. Make sure you pay this place a visit and get talking to the barman.

This pub is an absolute gem. The choice of drinks it's amazing. The atmosphere is second to none. There is a great selection of live music on most nights that really makes the place special. Fantastic beer garden out the back is great when we get the sunshine however has heaters to get you through the rest of the year. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming. If you're around this area make sure to pop in and enjoy.

Just returned from a tour of Southern and Northern Ireland.
Stopped 2 nights in Kilkenny, visiting Hackett's Bar.
What a great place, friendly welcome chatting and singing with locals.
A special thanks to pretty Zoe, who kept serving us in Guinness.
Hope to visit again next year.

It’s a late review. I had a one night two days trip in Kilkenny. We stopped for a drink in the early afternoon at Hackett’s after visiting nearby sightseeing. Owner told us they would have band play some live music if we’d like to come back after dinner. We did and it was the funniest night for our entire Ireland trip. I was the only Asian in the entire bar, but it didn’t stopped me having conversations with people around me and my brother in law did open mic with the band. I loved the natural friendly environment, local people are open to visitors and they are happy to have foreigners to visit their place. People dance, sing, have fun time at the bar till midnight. I would definitely go back if I have chance to visit Kilkenny again. Maybe be the real bartender next time!

We stopped by relatively early in the evening for a Guinness after dinner on a random weeknight and initially thought about leaving because the place was quiet and empty -- so glad we didn't! A group of musicians arrived later and we experienced the best, most authentic live Irish music "session" of our 2-week trip. The bartender, Orla, was a pleasure to chat with and we will never forget our night at Hackett's!

I remember the pub from previous trips to Kilkenny when it was the Anaconda. Its an interesting building. We were there for few hours on a Saturday and various groups (hen parties mainly) came and went. The Guinness was fine!

Heard some fabulous singing walking towards our hostel, and I grabbed the family and went over. What a terrific spot...unpretentious, friendly, with extraordinary music. One of my best memories of our trip to Ireland.
