The Yard is my absolute go to place in Kilkenny. Lovely, fresh food (best veggie lasagne ever and those tiny peppers <3 ) Doesn't matter is it lunch, breakfast or just craving something sweet and tea, it's the place for everything. The staff are all really friendly and quick at what they do, even during the lunch rush. The cafe is so well decorated and feels like home. Heated outdoor seating is a massive plus too.
Will always be the first place I'd recommend to people visiting.

Found this cafe while visiting Kilkenny and so pleased we did!! From the moment we were seated, every moment was delightful. The service was excellent, great coffee, and a fantastic sandwich and scone! The sandwich was a red pepper focaccia with cheese that was perfect accompanied with some salad. Since we had never tried a scone, the server brought us one. I have never been more stuffed in my life but the meal was worth every bite! Delicious is an understatement.
Go by and have lunch at the yard!

We stopped here for some coffee which I have to say was very nice. We decided to treat ourselves and have a sweet treat with it. My husband had a fruit scone with jam and cream which was very fresh, plenty of fruit and very tasty. I had the Terry's chocolate orange cheesecake which was gorgeous, light, creamy and a lovely crumbly, buttery base it was out of this world. They have lots of fresh made tasty savoury and sweet food and also have vegan and vegetarian options. We will definitely return.

I love the food here, the chorizo sausage rolls are superb, as is the brie focaccia bap, and the coffee is lovely. But the service is so incredibly slow. On more than one occasion I have left the que for takeaway after 20/30 minutes as the que isn't moving. I appreciate the space is tight but the staff are always hectic, falling over each other, spilling things on each other, snipping at each other, and it's only gotten worse since outdoor dining has reopened. One particular staff member can be quite rude. I really love the coffee but if there's any que at all it isn't worth the wait, it takes far too long, particularly if you're popping out of work on a coffee run or on your lunchbreak. Would love to see them be able to speed things up.

Stunningly rude service.
When asked about my food order, for which I was waiting over 30 minutes, I was told 'we're busy, it will come when it comes'
I went inside to pay the bill and enquired of a group standing in line if they were waiting to pay. They advised they were waiting to order.
Given that the restaurant is table service & there's even signs to say so, I took it they were ordering takeaway food / coffee.
I approached the counter asking if I could pay. The same server came behind me and proceeded to berate me for 'skipping the queue' and continued to do so as I paid, even I as told her not to speak to me like that.
The server needs to find another job, clearly custome service is not their forte.

Got the Cajun wrap. Was so delicious and came with pasta and carrot salad which was so nice. Partner reauested it to be made up without dressing which was taken care of with no fuss. Extremely young staff who are friendly and efficient. Tame Impala was playing which is always a plus. Served by young man on 14/01/23 who was friendly and helpful.

I chose to sit inside as it was very cold. The waitress on leaving the outside door to smoking area open each time she went in or out. (10 times) I closed it 5 times and asked her to close it. She declined. So smoke and freezing air came in. I couldn’t enjoy my lunch. No need for this disregard of customers

Lovely spot for lunch whilst visiting Kilkenny. Good choice on the menu. The staff were very efficient and there was no waiting for service. The busker singing Simon and garfunkel songs was an added bonus.

Would not rate this cafe, service was terrible. Not all staff were rude just one in particular. Had dessert too food was served before drinks

We had the pleasure of Emma's services at The Yard Café, where we enjoyed the quiche and one of the specials of the day - both of them fantastic. They don't serve alcohol at the cafe but we were allowed to bring it from the bar across the street.
Emma is a character and seeing her present today's specials only increased the pleasure of the meal.

Absolute muck food. Rude staff. Walked and were not acknowledged by staff initially. Menu states sausage rolls. What I got was one sausage roll which was absolutely disgusting.

The food is too salty, can't even finish it.
very cold space with uncomfortable seats
Staff is the rudest I ever experienced, they will ask you leave once you just finish food if they don't have enough space for new people and say no business would allow you stay, absolutely only money seeking. I used to go every week, never again. checked their google review, all the negative comments are all about horrible customer experience and one comment about racist! horrible! is the boss of this cafe doing charity to take all the rude people as stuff as they can not find job elsewhere?
as the they told me no other cafe would allow me order cafe then work and paint, I went to the cafes near by and asked the staff if there is time limit for me to stay after ordering tea, they all say there is no limit I can stay as long as I can until they close.

We must have tried 1/3 of the menu and everything was absolutely fantastic. If I lived nearby would be moving up a couple pant sizes because I loved everything I ate.
