The Oyster Tavern is a wonderful restaurant on so many levels. The staff are always welcoming, friendly and professional from the moment they meet and greet you to the moment they serve you the restaurants stunning food. This is one of Kerry’s gems when it comes to food, atmosphere and location and if you are visiting The Kingdom I would definitely recommend that you treat yourself with an evening there. It’s our favourite restaurant and simply put, time spent in The Oyster is time well spent.

Fantastic seafood restaurant. Great selection of dishes on the menu. If you’re on a budget just be wary of “The Specials”. Some have big prices for small portions. The lobster crepe was huge with almost a full half lobster for a starter and priced accordingly. The seafood platter should come with a warning - a platter to share- it’s massive, but great. The creme brûlée was the best ever.

We had a great seafood dinner at this restaurant. Seafood chowder was excellent. And for our main course, we ordered one grilled and one steamed lobster and the third is lobster thermistor for myself. The next time we visit this place again, I will order either the steamed or the grilled lobster instead. Our waitress is so accomodating and warm - we really felt welcome. Will definitely recommend this place to friends and family - and will come back every time we are in Tralee, Co. Kerry.

Went with a party of three on Thursday 24th September. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful. White and brown bread was promptly brought to the table along with the menus. After ordering, the starters arrived quite quickly and were very enjoyable with good sized portions. The problems arose with the mains. One order was for fish with baked potato but arrived with chips. That was returned. Two of us ordered fillet steak, one rare and one medium rare. Both steaks were medium at best. The “rare” was sent back which resulted in a wait while the others proceeded with their meal. One of the party had béarnaise sauce which was lacking in taste. Overall the beef was lacking whether due to lack of seasoning or quality of meat. But the fish was excellent. We finished the meal with coffees and Ferrero roché chocolates which were also provided promptly. The bill was provided when asked for but there was no rush to let us pay and we had to ask again for the machine to be brought to the table. Overall the service was good and the fault seems to lie in the kitchen. For a meal costing in excess of €170 with tips included, I would have expected better.

We ordered the special.Dover sole. I should have asked how it would be cooked. A plate of pale overcooked sole appeared, garnished with rubbery prawns. I wondered if the sole had been microwaved, as it came entirely unadorned. No buttery juices, no attempt at a sauce. Just a pale fish on a white plate. The vegetables arrived with a dollop of raw white sauce. All you could taste was raw flour. Pair these with a baked potato and that was my dinner for €28. The service was prompt and friendly. We got uncomfortable when the place got crowded and noisy. (Our reservation was for 6.30 pm). We were able to distance ourselves by 1 metre from the couple next to us, both couples at the far end of our respective tables. However, a group of 5 was placed next to them with barely half a metre to spare. We felt unsafe then. Having had a bland and disappointing dinner, we declined dessert. We were so disappointed with this experience.

From the time we arrived we felt right at home , the decor and the ambiance is like a proper tavern , absolutely stunning . We ordered food and we were promptly presented with a mind blowing array of FRESH oysters and crab claws . Followed by a hot sea food seafood platter and scampi . The food here is literally to die for and the wine selection is amazing , we had chateauneuf du pape which was so reasonably priced we only had a few lol . My self and my fiancé would recommend this place to anyone and anyone that has a bad experience here is clearly not a seafood lover however the menu here caters to all , steak , fish , chicken and all in between . Thanks to Julie and her team who made our night all the more special

Visited the Oyster Tavern on Sunday for lunch after hearing so much aboutthe tasty food and the generous portions. Can't fault the staff as they were lovely and the food tasted fine however I left disappointed and hungry . I ordered the Prawn Scampi which totaled 8 prawns and what I can only describe as a childs portion of chips for €25. Didn't feel that this was good value. I dodn't feel that this was the norm for the place judging bythe other plates coming out of the kitchen but this wass my experience.

*** just to emphasise - as of September 2021 this restaurant is fully open for vaccinated diners (inside) and everyone (outside) *** A brilliant meal of perfect seafood - for starters, the grilled oysters were as good as any I've ever had and my companion loved the crab claws (see photos). My main (off the specials board) of monkfish with prawns and leeks was very good indeed and the scallop mornay was a tasty (and substantial) treat. The staff were efficient, friendly and attentive and all the covid protocols were properly observed (but in no way intrusive). The Guinness is good too. A great evening - we'll be back

We found The Oyster Tavern on Trip Advisor while looking for a seafood place for Sunday lunch. It was the perfect find! We made a reservation and they sat us immediately when we checked in, honoring my request for a table by the window. The view would be stunning on a sunny day, but it was beautiful even in the rain. The food and service were excellent! We had appetizers, mains and even dessert, which is very rare for us. Everything we ordered was delicious! I highly recommend the seafood chowder. I got it as an appetizer and my son loved it so much he ordered it for his meal instead of his usual cheeseburger! Good value for the cost also!

Had a fast social visit. Great to see the local employment still in The Oyster. I had the most beautiful Scampi that I have every in my life eaten. Perfect batter and really fresh large prawns, served with generous portion of fries and fresh side salad. A magnificent pint of Guinness also. Hope to get back out more often. Thanks Johnny

Lovely place located in a beautiful area with tonnes of sights to behold. The restaurant itself is neat and clean, which with how many people came trough the place the time I was there is no small feature. The drinks are as good as they come, selection is wide, and the bar service is quick and helpful. When It comes to food It was an experience. As soon as You are seated You are being serviced, the starterts are there instantly, the main course comes not long after. I’d like to describe the quality of the food but words would fail me. All I could say, is that the oysters are fresh and tasty, the steak was exquisite and done just as I asked. When It comes to desserts I just wish I could have them all, but settled on the cheescake and apple tart- both delicious and series with ice cream. The staff were wonderful, everybody was amazing but Mr McGrath is in a class of his own when It comes to customer service. It is rare, that an owner will go out of his way to not only get you the best possible service, but also make you feel at home.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Oyster, the food was incredible and delicious, I had the mussels as a starter and the monkfish as a main and couldn’t recommend them enough. The servers Regina and Susan, along with the owners Jim and Áine, were beyond attentive and patient, they provided exceptional service, we couldn’t believe how fast and hot the food came out of the kitchen. They even had some live music on and the atmosphere was warm and inviting adorned with nautically themed decor. It was a great evening all around and if you ever find yourselves in Tralee, please do go here as we had a brilliant time.

We ate here when visiting friends in Tralee, who had highly recommended it. This is a beautiful, old style, seafood restaurant, with a sumptuous menu, great staff and a lovely atmosphere. I had the seafood chowder with brown bread for a starter, fish pie with chips as a main and sticky toffee pud as a dessert - all were top notch. My mouth is even watering thinking about the food while writing this. Excellent wine list also and the restaurant is well adapted to Covid, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I will definitely come here again whenever I am next in the area.

We would like to say a huge thanks to Jim and the outstanding team of staff for a most beautiful meal last night. The oyster has always been one of our favourite restaurants , and due to the restrictions of course takeout is the only option , but the standard and quality of the food is superb. We thoroughly enjoy our meal and just wanted to say thank to you all for your amazing hospitality and kindness and wishing you all a very happy new year. Looking forward to seeing all again soon.

My friends and I had a fabulous meal at the Oyster Tavern. Friendly faces and social distancing adhered to we felt very safe and comfortable during our time. To all the staff here thank you for making our evening most enjoyable. Our meals were outstanding with fabulous delicious flavours from each dish👌 For starters we had the steamed fresh mussels and the warm brie Our mains were a mixture of steak sandwiches, the poached medallions of monkfish and selections from their specials board we had the cold seafood platter and scampi. With a little room left over and managed to squeeze in some dessert we shared the sticky toffee pudding (definitely recommend) and warm apple pie with a selection of ice cream. I look forward to returning 😋 Thank you again to Julie and all the staff
