Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Highly rated dinner experience. Went for a quick bite after the beach and it did not disappoint. The kids menu was extensive and well priced, I had the seafood linguine and my wife the seafood risotto. Both highly recommended.

Hi Thomas Harris, There is nothing better after a day at the beach than having some hearty food to top up the tanks. Our menu has something for everyone and certainly a lot to fill hungry little bellies. Thank you and we hope to see you again. Matt

Every now and again I like to treat myself to a full Irish breakfast and I must say my experience at The Pikeman Bar this morning was one of the best I have ever had. It was so freshly cooked and piping hot. The bacon was pan fried and sauté potatoes and mushrooms added to the whole experience. This all came along with hot toast orange juice and tea. Super value at 9.95 and great friendly service. Thank you so much - Roger Harty

Hi L6996HErogerh, Thank you so much for your glowing representation of our morning breakfast. There is no better way to start the day than with one of our hot and tasty full Irish breakfasts. Everything is fresh and cooked to order, you will certainly be ready for your day after one of them. Thank you and see you again. Matt

Visited here for dinner today, I ordered the vegetarian ravioli but unfortunately it arrived dressed with Parmesan which is not vegetarian and was not stated on menu , I asked the waitress for another without dressing and she apologized and said it was no problem. When I got my dish it was absolutely so tasty, fresh and filling. My husband has the Beef and he said it was delicious also with great mash! Lovely decor and friendly staff made it more pleasant. It was also slightly uncomfortable with some of the public walking around lobby and toilet area with no face masks, all staff were wearing them. Look forward to a meal there again.

Thank you for taking the time to review us, its much appreciated. Its always very helpful for us to receive both good and bad reviews so we can learn from our mistakes. We always try to ensure that all of our customers abide by the covid regulations but unfortunately we are very limited when enforcing these regulations. I'm delighted to hear you both enjoyed your meals and we hope to see you again in the future. Best wishes from The Grand Hotel

I usually go to the Grand Hotel when I'm in Tralee as the food is good but on my last visit I was asked to pay for the food as I was in the middle of eating my dinner. I didn't see anyone else having to pay before they finish and I have never experienced that anywhere previously. Not a very nice thing to do, as I had done nothing to deserve that treatment and was courteous towards staff as I always would be.

We called to the Pikeman without a booking and were seated almost immediately. The dining room was very busy. The tables were a little small. Our server, Ellen, was most pleasant. There was sanitizer on the table. My food was piping hot with lovely fresh vegetables while my husbands seafood platter was delicious and had a large variety of seafood. We will definitely eat here again when next in Tralee.

Staff Rocked!!! Brilliant atmosphere, welcoming and friendly. Good food (Thai red curry was worth every penny) shame to see the lions lose but thank god they served tasty Guinness. Meet the manager she is well cool 👍. Peace out Pikemans ✌️

Had lunch with my mom today and we were sitting outside on the street . The lovely waitress Roisilin asked if we wanted to move into to courtyard which we didn't know was there and we are local. She so so kind and so helpful. Brought our food and drinks in and gave my mom a seat under a Heater to make sure she wasn't cold. A great staff member to have a great experience today.

We are in Kerry for the week and went to Tralee for a Saturday night dinner. The Pikeman bar was recommended and did not disappoint. My husband and I were greeted by the manageress who kindly informed us we had to wait for a table but she would seat us no problem. Shortly after we were brought to our freshly sanitised table and offered drinks. I had the salmon and my husband had the fillet steak. They were cooked to perfection and brought out with a smile. All the staff were happy to help even though it was busy, they provided over and above. Highly recommend a visit if in Tralee.

Hi Gemma Enright, We cannot say these are not trying times but our team are always on hand to ensure you get the best quality time with us. Without them the hotel would not be what it is and there is always a smile on their faces. We are doing our best to ensure the government guidelines are upheld but we will always find you a table even if there is a bit of a wait. We thank you for being patient with us and we are glad you enjoyed your meals. See you next time. Matt

We went for the beef, served with rooster potatoes wrapped in foil with a sachet of butter. They were not tasty. There was a square of white cabbage maybe it was something else piled on the plate. It was not tasty and the vegetables seemed boiled from frozen. The gravy was bitter. The wine was lovely. We were disappointed having spent 80 euro. The surroundings are lovely and comfortable and the waitresses were very pleasant. I could not fault them.

Their breakfast menu offers a great variety from Full Irish Breakfast to Vegan and Pescatarian. In addition to that, there is a spread for self service that offers fruit salad and tinned mandarin and prunes, yoghurt, all sorts of bread and croissant, cereal and juice. I was so impressed by the service of waiters and waitresses especial Natalie. She carries a very happy personality but at the same time extremely efficient and her service is impeccable. My husband and I stayed at the Grand Hotel for nearly two weeks in March and we looked forward to every breakfast. I was also impressed by the special menu for the day. The dish that I enjoyed the most was Seafood Platter. The portion of the food was generous and the freshness of seafood is excellent. I highly recommend Seafood Platter which offers you Crab meat, smoked salmon, mussels, scallops and salad served with thousand island dressing. The service of the waiters and waitress was of a high standard.

Locals to Tralee myself and my husband came in for dinner. Service was very speedy and the food was delicious. My only criticism is that mashed potatoes should be served with roast beef. I was given a baked potato. It was still very tasty. Will definitely return

I stayed in the Grand Hotel in Tralee in December. It is a lovely place to visit. We had two meals in the Pikeman Bar, both very good. This is a nice bar. Lots of locals were dining there and there was a great atmosphere. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The service was good. It is a very comfortable hotel. Geraldine O’Brien.

My family love the Grand Hotel and the Pikeman Bar . We can’t go to Tralee without a visit . It’s like being in a film about Irish life 100 years ago but yet modern and sophisticated as well . Chowder is always excellent with a couple of pints of Guinness ( now Guinness 0.0 on tap,) Ecstasy!

Rang hotel and was advised didn't need to book for bar but that could be seated in restaurant if needed. Entered hotel and was informed again could just enter bar or restaurant. Went to bar and a waitress led to table. My husband and daughter sat down as I sat down i looked and realised that we were very close to the table next to us less than half a metre. We politely asked to be moved and were offered a tiny table next to an open door for people to go out to smoke. We declined and asked to go to the dining room. Here it was much better well spaced tables. Now for the food. Delicious. Did advise hotel when leaving of spacing issue. Realised this morning that also not asked for details for tracing. This is the first time in over a week that we haven't be asked while travelling around Kerry.

Hi Stephanie F, We do not take bookings in the bar as it is a walk-in basis so not every table is booked up. We do take bookings in the restaurant and do advise any customers calling of this. We understand that some chairs can be close but being situated back to back they can be that way. We will always do our best to accommodate our customers and if there is an issue, we will do our best to sort it out. We are glad that you were found a table in the restaurant and that you enjoyed your meal with us, that is what we want the most. At this moment in time it is not mandatory to contact trace, but we do take all details for bookings in the restaurant and for accommodation. We also have security cameras which can be used to assist in that area if evidence was needed. We do however thank you for your feedback as we are constantly evolving during these difficult times and following the government guidelines. Thank you. Matt
