Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Three of us ate at the Mad Monk last night based on a recommendation of our hotel. It was a very good meal. It’s primarily a seafood restaurant, and the food is very fresh. Two of us enjoyed their sea bass, while the third had...the salmon. The sea bass/risotto combination was just outstanding. Unlike all the pubs in the vicinity, the tap beer selection was limited, but they do have a nice wine list that probably goes better with seafood anyway. I topped off the meal with their gluten free chocolate brownie, which was fantastic. The service was very good. Reservations are highly recommended. If I lived in Killarney, this would definitely be my go to restaurant. Enjoy!More

Good food. I understand they own their own fishing boat to supply the restaurant. The kitchen is open plan and from the tables on the ground floor you can see the obviously expert staff preparing the very good food. However the place is very popular...and the waiting staff are too busy to be friendly or give good service. This place is not for me, I want to dine out with service and ambience, but lots of others are obviously happy with what is on offer. Too frenzied for me.More

It is a beautiful restaurant. The food was excellent, the wine was excellent, the service was excellent! Get the monkfish, you won't be disappointed. This is a great spot for a first date or just for a romantic night out.

We were told this place was wonderful for sea food. When we got there we could not get in as you need to make a reservation to enter. Just keep this in mind.

The food was very good specially the sea bass as the oysters. However, the lady that serve us had a bad night, she was rude to us and would not answer simple questions about the dishes, she seem to be upset by the next table,...which she was also serving that was noise but not unfriendly at all.More

Fantastic service, lovely ambiance, and very clean. They offer a great selection of seasonal products. Due to the weather, we might have missed out on experiencing other types of fish, but that's just more reason to return. We'll definitely be back!

Excellent, fresh seafood. I had the hake, and my daughter had the salmon. We also had a crab claw appetizer. Everything was superb.

From my cocktail (French Martini) which I was so uncertain about to my dessert (Sticky Toffee Pudding) and everything in between, Grilled Octopus & Tuna Steak was delicious all presented with great service!

The staff could not do more for us and were so accommodating. The starters and main course were absolutely out of this world. Unfortunately the desserts were disappointing, lemon tart was very stodgy and the cheesecake was quite dense. That most definitely didn’t take from...our experience and we most definitely will returnMore

This restaurant offers a mixed experience when it comes to its cuisine. While the ambience and service might meet expectations, the food falls short of delivering a memorable dining experience. The menu boasts a variety of dishes, promising flavours to tantalize the taste buds. However,...the execution often leaves much to be desired. Some dishes may lack the finesse expected, with flavours that don't quite harmonize or ingredients that seem mismatched.More

Would highly recommend this restaurant , from the time we walked in to the time we left we had the most wonderful experience . The host was very welcoming and really helpful in explaining the menu options. The service was top notch and very attentive...without being intrusive . The food was just delicious , very well presented and of the highest quality . I had scallops as starters and they were Sooo good, salmon for mains which was excellent , generously portioned and exceptionally fresh. Some of our party had the crab claws and the crab bake is just to die for. We will definitely be backMore
