We had booked Murphy Browne’s a month in advance for New Years Eve. First time going there but we could tell from the reviews the food was good and let’s face it, we all like a nice meal on a special occasion!! I contacted the restaurant by email and the reply was prompt and stress free, no issue when we arrived in the restaurant a month later. Had a nice seat in by the wall. I would describe this as a romantic restaurant and no loud music to stifle conversation as you can have in some places. Menu is extensive, and so hard to choose from!! Ended up going with the duck spring rolls for starter. My god they were divine, the duck was sumptuous and the spring roll itself was not a bit greasy or oily like most places!! Didn’t feel a bit guilty eating them!! My wife had the goats cheese tartlet as she said it was one of the best she’s had, nice sized portions as well. For mains I went with the pan seared sea bass with mash and wilted spinach. I am a fan of fish but god damn this was one of the best ever, I genuinely savoured every single mouthful of it and wished the plate would never clear. The fish was melt in your mouth and mash was cooked to perfection as regards consistent and creaminess!! My wife had the fillet steak (medium) and it too was cooked as ordered with a nice bit of red in the middle. I stole some of hers :) and I almost felt jealous, but for the fact I had already started mine. We both had a glass of white and again it was fantastic. I can honestly say this was one of, if not, the best meal we’ve had in 2019 as regards value for money!! I would class this food as being good enough for any fine dining establishment despite the fact this is just a restaurant on the high street and I don’t mean that in any way disparaging to the place. I would eat here at least once a month if I lived here or just a bit closer then 3 hours away. Food, location , staff, ambiance all 10/10

Must have when in Killarney!

We had dinner here on our last night of our stay cation and we were delighted we choose to eat here. The food was undoubtedly the best we have had not only in killarney but in a long time!Lovely atmosphere also. I had the duck spring rolls and lasagne for main and honestly wanted to lick the plate 😊 it was gorgeous-piping hot and freshly prepared . Great Value for money too with generous portions and to top it all off the staff were so plesent and helpful. 5 out of 5!

We ate as a group of 8 last night in Murphy Brownes. We had a table booked as work colleagues for one of our managers who was moving home after 14 years with us. Good & service were top class! It was my first time eating there and I can definitely say I will be back🙌🏼 Staff all wore visors, tables spaced out and sanitizer was provided at the door and around the restaurant making us feel very comfortable and safe. Well done to all the team on reopening and great night and best wishes for the few weeks ahead 💫

My partner and I are in Killarney for a few days for a staycation and this restaurant came up as a definite based on the reviews; unfortunately for us it was a somewhat disappointing experience. I ordered the fish and chips which was very tasty, overpriced as is normal for most Irish restaurants but I enjoyed it. My partner had the lasagna as she loves pasta, that was a mistake, it was clearly overheated in the microwave, the pasta was rubbery and difficult to chew. My partner is not one to complain so we let it go but I am and when I mentioned it to the staff member who I believe may be the manager, she admitted it was microwaved, standard practice in restaurants apparently. I have watched enough Gordon Ramsey to know restaurants that microwave are cutting corners, customers expect FRESH, not microwaved. My partner suffered stomach cramps most of the night after our meal; very unsatisfactory. When was the lasagna made I ask? This restaurant has 5 stars for a reason, for us it is 3 stars at best. The food and wine is over-priced but to help the industry in all our new normal, we are willing to pay the charges and support restaurants like Murphy Browne's. The restaurant itself is very nice, staff are friendly and helpful, clean, lively, stylish surroundings with a good dining atmosphere. Shame the food wasn't as good as the venue.

Hi Sidney You private messaged me about your overall unhappiness, I responded on the same day and even gave you my personal mobile number, which you haven't used, but anyway, i'm not going to go through all the inaccuracies in your above message because frankly i don't have time. Our Lasagne is an extremely popular dish which is made in small batches in house to ensure optimum freshness, its then allowed to cool, portioned and of course microwaved to order. As you said Deirdre (the owner) on the night verified this. Between us, we are in the industry approx 40 years and neither of us has either worked in or managed an establishment who do not microwave lasagne, sorry but it has nothing to do with cutting corners. Our pricing has not increased because of COVID and is certainly on par with quality restaurants around. Now with all that said, we still value feedback, that's why your lovely waitress asked you in the middle of the meal if everything was to ye're satisfaction. Most issues can be fixed on the evening, the funny thing is that there was literally NOTHING left on the plates when your waitress cleared them. If food is unsatisfactory or mistakes are made then we of course would compensate accordingly, mentioning unhappiness after, is of no real value to anyone, one of the 2 owners are here EVERY evening to help ensure guest satisfaction In closing I'd love to have known what you were actually looking for off the bill? Great food!

Stopped here by chance with no reservation and they gave us a table for 2 people in a busy period. Booking would be recommended. Food was fantastic and would defintely return. I got the ribeye steak and my husband got the lamb. Both dishes were very tasty and we got homemade ice cream to finish which was perfect!

Excellent quality and variety of food

We were four people - one ordered meat, the other fish, the other curry and the other vegan. Every single person at the table was impressed at the presentation, quality and taste of their meal. Brava to everyone working at Murphy Brownes who made the evening a special one whilst adhering to the strict Covid-19 guidelines. We will definitely be back again!

Fabulous meal

We visited Killarney for the weekend and this was our first meal out on the Friday night. We both went for the fillet steak on recommendation by our hotel porter, ordered medium and were cooked to perfection. The meat was like butter. The desserts of Eton Mess and lemon tart were also great. It is an intimate setting and ideal for couples. Highly recommended.

Best meal in Kilarney, actually Ireland

Dined here last night with my husband and with the help of our lovely waiter River, I can honestly say I would drive the 3.5 hours to Kilarney any evening, for the food and service we received last night. I asked River for help with my choice as I explained although I wasn't starving I needed a decent dinner, but nothing too extremely heavy so I gave River my options for his advice. He guided me toward the goats cheese tart which I chose, with a side of chips and coleslaw. Well just take a look at the picture for what he then placed before me. To say it was the nicest meal I have ever eaten is an understatement. My husband had a fillet steak with pepper sauce and said it was one of the best he'd ever had.. perfectly cooked! The wine complimented it perfectly and although we were both satisfied, we thought if the food is this good then dessert is a must. We opted for the chocolate caramel brownie which was served warm with ice cream. Again the best dessert I've ever had.. ever!! As we left, each staff member we passed thanked us and bid us goodbye, a lovely touch. I am one of those gals who is hard to please (yes and also not afraid to admit it 😂) so take from this review as it is intended. Murphy Brownes, thank you for making our final night in Kilarney the best and we will 100% be back. Keep up the super work.

A definite must try

We dined here on 24th of August, after booking online. We had goats cheese tartlet and duck spring rolls to start and seabass and steak for mains, everything was delicious, for desert the malibu cheesecake was unbelievable. I would highly recommend this restaurant, very reasonablely priced. The service and food were excellent.

Super atmosphere and food

9 of us dined. We all had starters, mains and desserts and every single morsel was delicious. I had the fish and it was light and fluffy. A lot of our party had steaks and every single one was cooked to perfection. There was a lively atmosphere and the staff were friendly and efficient. Superb night. I'll be back.

Unbelievable

We are here tonight (2 couples) and the food was divine. We gor chicken wings for starters, steak and fish and chips for.the main and selection of desserts for our desserts. I'm diary intolerant and there was so much to choose from form startes, main and dessert. Finally, someone who is dairy intolarant can get great food out. Can't remember the last time I had a dessert out with not been able to eat diary - chocolate and coconut tart was superb. The service was excellent, tables are social distant and we couldn't recommend this place highly enough to anyone visiting Kilarney and looking for great food. We will definitely be back.

Great Food and Service

We are on a tour of Ireland and visited the restaurant on a wet Monday evening in August. Despite the continuing covid restrictions in place, we found the restaurant to have a romantic vibe, excellent friendly and attentive service and the menu contained many dishes using locally sourced produce. My wife loved the lamb shank and I enjoyed the tomato and roasted pepper soup and the fresh sea bass with mash potato. The Chocolate brownie and Chocolate Tart with passion fruit sorbet desserts were excellent too. This was the best meal we have had in Ireland so far. The restaurant was busy, so I would recommend booking in advance. We booked the day before.

Went here last night, on our weekend away. the food was of high standard. We had goats cheese starter plus seafood chowder, the goats cheese was so fluffy and light and the chowder was just delicious with plenty of fish. We had the fish and chips and the lamb shank. The fish and chips were only Devine, batter was very light with skinny chips, just the way I like them. The lamb shank was scrumptious with the meat falling off the bone. We had the eaten mess for dessert and that didn’t disappoint! All in all our experience was yum yum!! One negative however, the portion sizes were hugh. 😎😎😎

I can see why this restaurant is the second most recommended for Killarney. We managed to get a late booking as they were very busy but this suited us fine. The choice of food on the menu is brilliant, there’s something to suit everyone. We started with duck spring rolls and the goats cheese tartlet which were both amazing. I then got the curry, I was a little disappointed with the curry as it tasted similar to what I make at home but was still fine (I just ordered badly) and my partner for the Fillet steak which looked beautifully cooked. Staff were so lovely and welcoming which really made the experience, the setting itself is very romantic. The only complaint I would have was that it was extremely hot in the restaurant itself which meant we didn’t want to stay for desert. I would definitely recommend here!

So good to be back in Murphy Brownes in Killarney!

Myself and my husband really couldnt wait for indoor dining to reopen so we would come back here! We booked an evening meal, were greeted at the door by staff who asked us to sanitise and to show our vaccine cert and ID, I felt this was very reassuring. All went through and approved on the App and we were taken to our table. We were asked to wear our masks until we were seated and again if we needed to use the facilities. Everything felt extremely safe. Food was as always top notch! Im a coeliac and was SO HAPPY to find out that since my last visit they have now got a separate frier for chips meaning they are now free of cross contamination and suitable for coeliacs. This was music to my ears! I had the bruschetta salad on GF bread and my husband had duck spring rolls. Both so nice and tasty! For mains I had seabass and my husband had steak. Both cooked to perfection. For dessert my husband had cheesecake (locally known for being amazing flavours) and I had the eton mess which was GF. Atmosphere was great, lovely to see people out and about again. Everyone so happy and I could over hear a girl on the table next to me advising a table close by on what to order as they were back for a second night after loving their first! Well done Murphy Brownes cant wait to come back with some friends for our next visit.
