I'd heard good things about this place and took the opportunity of a trip to Galway between Christmas and New Year to try it out. We were a group of three and loved the casual yet cosy seating near the fire in the bar. The food was very tasty and we were treated with real humour and respect by what seemed like the manager. There was a slight mix-up with some bread, we weren't going to mention it as it didn't spoil anything but the manager noticed and made sure we got free coffees at the end. Great service, tasty food and lovely atmosphere. Recommended!

Came here for a 3 course meal and drinks, service was excellent. Malachy was our server and he couldn’t of been better. He was chatty, friendly and we didn’t even have to ask for what we wanted next he just knew e.g when we wanted another drink/ sauce for our food. The food was amazing, best meal I’ve ever had. Steak cooked to perfection! Couldn’t recommend this place enough and not too expensive!

Stopped in on a busy Saturday night as a party of 6 without a booking... Did not expect to get a table as everywhere was busy! Ann-Marie welcomed us at the door and was very friendly and managed to get us a table! From the moment we sat down, Conor made sure we were looked after for the night! One of the best services we have ever had! Very professional, funny and we all really enjoyed having him make our night special! All 6 of us had amazing meals.. highly recommend the wings - Crispy with a delicious bbq sauce! Sirloin steak was the best iv had, light battered onion rings, chips, relish and a lovely peppercorn sauce - all for for only €20! Burger, fish and chips and curry were all delicious too! Could not fault one single thing! Definitely our new dinner spot! Thanks for the perfect night out! This is a must visit for any night out!

Family Lunch here really was really good. The service was excellent, choice was somewhat limited however all tastes were catered for. The food from starters to dessert was fantastic, well presented, simply but very flavoursome. Definitely worth a visit.

Staff were lovely, venue is lovely. We got two cocktails to start, they were really nice. But the food, i got a bland soup, we both got a poor cut of rib eye, both steaks were well over cooked. It came with chips which were under done and laced in salt, onion rings were grand. There was a bif dillop of relish on thr plate which made no sense when the steak came with different sauces. Didn't even bother with dessert. Wouldn't go back, 100 euro down the drain

It is a bit confusing when researching places to eat especially when a "bar" that serves food is also co-joined with a restaurant. The reviews were promising (not knowing the bar/restaurant situation) so we decided to give Blake's Bar a try. We were a bit surprised that the actual dining section "Brassiere" required reservations however the Bar (which was very small) had a table that could seat the 3 of us. The menu was a smaller/condensed version of the restaurant (as we subsequently found out) but sufficient for our needs so we decided to give it a try. The service and food were very good and while it was fun eating in the pub which claims to be the 'oldest', it would have been more fun to have a drink in the pub and dinner in the restaurant. So just a FYI - it you want to eat be sure to make reservations at the Brassiere and not Blake's Bar.

My husband and I only came for drinks and an appetizer, but everything was great. Very good service and great looking menu. We got the potato leek soup (soup of the day), which was a great portion. And then we got some wine, they do wines by the glass or carafe or bottle, which was really nice. They also make homemade bread and walk around with it and let you choose. Highly recommend the Guinness one and chive if those are options. Wished we had come back for dinner. Also if you plan on going for dinner, make reservations, because it seems to fill up fast. There is also a separate bar area, which is first come first serve. That was full when we got there on a Wednesday afternoon.

We went for dinner on a Monday night. We were able to get a seat at a table in the bar area but all restaurant tables were reserved. Need to make reservation as this place is busy. Food was delicious - prices a little on the higher side - but for us worth the extra money.

Chose Blakes to meet, eat and chat. From entering the staff were friendly and efficient. Bar service excellent. Plenty to choose from on the menu and choice between a la carte and Theatre menu. All 4 of us so impressed with service- friendly, courteous and great knowledge of menu and business. Food varied and delicious. Definitely will go back

My wife and I ordered fish and chips. First impressions the batter was overcooked which meant the fish had reduced inside due to overcooking. The chips. Oh the chips - what could go wrong here? In the old days when I was a chef there was a common chemical used to keep the peeled potatoes white. Now the chemical might not be the issue here but they were very leathery and tough. My wife got one cherry tomato in her lettuce and I got one half of a cherry tomato in the lettuce. Most food businesses accompany fish and chips with mushy peas it wouldn't cost that much extra for a little bowl. Tartare sauce was served but it really was mayonnaise with no chopped pickles. I have been a customer for a number of years at Blakes and I have always voted for it to recieve rewards but based on this experience I will not vote the next time.

We walked into Blake’s Bar, without a reservation for dinner, and were promptly seated. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Alan, our waiter was very efficient with our order. My wife ordered the sea bass and it came out well done which she did not like, but it was replaced with another juicy sea bass without any qualms. I had the fish n chips and it was perfect. The staff, the atmosphere of this place could not be more perfect. Strongly recommend this place.

We walked in by chance and we are so happy we did. We were visiting Galway for long weekend and I would say Blakes was our best meal and drinks in our entire stay and we visited a lot of Pubs/Restaurants. I think our bartender's name was Alan and his personality was perfect. Great sense of humor, very personable and great recommendations. He poured a "class" Guinness! My Rib eye steak was perfect and the chowder was the best. All around a great expereince. We went without a reservation but they found a seat for the two of us so a huge thanks to the host and manager for making that happen.

Nice food and warm atmosphere, service was great up until we finished our dinner. Once our plates were cleared we were asked if we wanted dessert to which we said no but our waitress quickly left before we could ask for another round of drinks and the bill. We didn’t see that waitress again, there were two other tables in our section who were being regularly checked on and offered further drinks, we tried flagging down the only waitress in the section but she never looked over in our direction in the 20 minutes we were waiting. The other tables were of bigger parties and we were just a table of two but still, it would’ve been nice to finish the experience on a good note rather than being ignored and confused. The other tables were brought bills while we had to go up and pay at the till, not really a fine dining experience.

Was recommended by our walking tour guide to come here for food. Despite only visiting in the late afternoon, they were able to squeeze us in, albeit at 8pm. It was well worth the wait. The lamb was falling apart, and the accompanying rioja was delicious. My friend had the fish and chips and remarked on how the batter wasn't greasy and the fish was flaky. In a city where you are spoilt for choice, this is well worth a visit.
