It is wonderful to see a local business reopening for their delicious coffee and pancakes (takeaway). I rang in advance to place my order and my food was ready when I arrived. Pascal greeted me at the door and I picked up my takeaway of American style pancakes, with bacon and maple syrup and two coffees. All social distancing protocols were observed. So tasty, great service. And the takeaway cups are all comparable aswell.

We stumbled across this place by accident and were pleasantly surprised. We had the bacon pancakes and toast with poached eggs, avocado and chorizo. It was a fantastic way to start off our trip to Galway and we will be back again before we leave!

While walking the busy streets of Galway city a local shop owner said that this was the place to get breakfast-type food and they were most certainly correct. The fun and quirky menu options leave guests talking about their pancakes. The chai latte is a good way to finish up a stack of their house-made batter pancakes. The café ambiance and cool staff make this place a good stop if you need some fuel to keep walking along the windy Galway shores.

Came in today to sit down and have a meal, was waiting 20 mins in the line as a group of 4 in front of me were waiting to be served at the till for about 15 mins even though there were about 5 empty tables they could be sat at, and the staff did not acknowledge them for those 15 mins. When it was finally my turn I was also made to wait 15 mins as about 4 staff members were behind the till not doing much, I should have been at least acknowledged. It wasnt busy so there wasnt really an excuse. At least the coffee and food was good. Also the staff do not wear face masks which is unsanitary.

Hi Aisling. Thanks for you feedback. You must have had a bad day, because looking at your reviews history, all 7 of your trip advisor contributions were written on the same day, 5 of which complaining about the standard of service in the places you visited. You may have heard of this minor inconvenience that's been around the last few months called Covid19, which has pretty much brought the whole hospitality industry to its knees and left us fighting for our survival. We have had to completely overhaul our business model to adhere to government guidelines and keep our staff and customers safe, and it is truly sad when those efforts and sacrifices are met with complaint and criticism. 1 - There is no way you were waiting for a table for 35mins. The maximum wait we ever allow is 15 to 20mins, longer than that and we politely ask customers to come back at a quieter time. 2 - I'm not sure how you could see 5 empty tables when there are only 3 tables available downstairs where you would have been standing, unless you can see through ceilings to upstairs. 3 - Regardless of whether or not there was empty tables, they are not the only factor. We've had to reduce the number of staff in our kitchen to allow for social distancing (remember this Covid thing?) and the flow of customers and orders coming through has to be carefully controlled to allow for this and not put too much pressure on the kitchen. Extra time also has to be given for tables to be thoroughly cleaned and sanitised between customers. 4 - As per government guidelines, our staff member DO wear masks when facing members of the public, the only exceptions is when serving customers at the till behind a sneeze guard. 5 - There is a maximum of 3 members of staff downstairs at any one time to allow for social distancing. So your observation of 4 "lazy staff" members behind the till is simply not true. 6 - To keep all our staff members safe, each are allocated a workstation (till, coffee machine, floor etc...) and we are not allowed to move between stations without fully sanitising them. So yes, sometimes one of us may appear to be standing there not doing much, and believe me, we'd only love to go and help our colleagues with other tasks, but that's the way it has to be, for now. So I'm sorry if you didn't enjoy your experience with us, but if you can't find it in yourself to respect or empathise with the new procedures and sacrifices all of us cafes & restaurants have had to take, I suggest you stay home, stay safe. Unless of course you run your own cafe or restaurant, in which case I'd love to find out your secret to overcoming the hardship we have faced. Pascal Wrenn - Owner at Pascal Coffee House

Came here with my boyfriend for some lunch. We both order the chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. My boyfriend was half way through the wrap when he by down on something. He then pulled a little stone the size of a 10c coin out of his mouth. The waitress was apologetic and said that as they buy in their lettuce that these things can happen . She took the wrap away and removed it from the bill. I then went to pay for my wrap (which I couldn’t finish as I was put off) and the two Fries. I paid in cash and the girl at the counter just gave me my change and walked away so I proceeded to attempt to call her back and get a receipt to which I got the strangest looks. Would be very reluctant to go back here.

Going into a cafe and ordering two coffees and a piece of cake to have inside ought to be a really straight forward process. Somehow, Pascal's contrives to make it the most complicated and frustrating process you could imagine. First off, the till is located in a wifi blackspot so the card readers have very poor/no reception meaning the poor staff members have to stand futilely waving the thing around, apologising for the delay, until your transaction can be processed. However, the worst bit is that you are then told what table you will be sitting at (with the number) by the person at the till. That's right, you cannot simply choose your own table like in any other cafe, here you are told where to sit. Then, having located said table you wait, and you wait. To be fair the slice of cake arrived promptly but of the coffee there was no sign. To kill some time we sought to go online and make use of the free wifi, but the password provided for you on your receipt was not recognised. Still no coffee. More time was killed going to the loo waiting for the coffee to arrive. On returning to our seat upstairs I passed an old couple who had clear mobility issues struggling to get upstairs to the seat they had evidently been told to sit at despite the fact that there were at least a half dozen empty seats they could have sat at downstairs. Still no coffee. Over ten minutes had now passed. I eventually went down to see if they had been forgotten only to be told that they were being made, which was true, they were. I watched in silent wonder as the barrista slowly, painfully slowly, made the latte. I then picked up our two drinks to take them upstairs only to be told that I should stop as a staff member would do it, an instruction I ignored as who knows when that might have happened. So, if you find choosing your own table in a cafe a bit of s struggle and you have nothing better to do with your time then I would recommend this place as the coffee and cake were both actually pretty good. But if you want to choose where to sit and get served at the same speed all other cafes manage then go elsewhere.

Hadnt been here in awhile and from what I remember, it was a decent spot and when in town, would go there quite regularly. First off, staff always appear untrained and make you wait at the till for quite a while even though its not busy. Secondly, the host brought us upstairs with menus and I thought great we dont have to order at the till like the last time But no, they left us upstairs and told us to come down to the till when we decide what we want. When my partner went to order he was told to wait a second and left at the till waiting to order, having to pay almost 30 euros for two portions of pancakes and tea BEFORE we even got our food. This system was here before and normally i wouldnt mind because the food was decent that it compensated for it. Food was served before beverages and the pancakes were fine although little maple syrup and the bacon was 2 strips of fat. The tea came without teaspoon and sugar at the table. At this point I didnt bother complaining because I would actually have too much to complain about to staff members who are the manager's responsibility to train. I wouldnt mind only I have been here before multiple times and have had the same mediocre experience , only for the food was good. Now, Im extremely disappointed with the food and staff making one wonder why they got the name of best pancakes in town. I understand the price side of things with the way things are at the moment but at least try up the standards in the other aspects of your cafe.

Partner and I visited for brunch, I found the system a little confusing at first but once staff informed up we lined up and ordered and were seated at our table. COVID-19 restrictions were followed well and the sandwiches were good! They also have a convenient online check-in system which takes 60 seconds for contact tracing. The only downfall is we felt we couldn't really ask for anything else/ get another drink once we had finished our food or we would have to line up again, but still a great spot.

the pancakes are very delicious! The portions are huge, but the price is worth it. You can also take home the rest of your meal, if you didn't finish everything. There is also free Wi-Fi. The staff is welcoming and friendly It is a great café for eating alone, with friends or taking away delicious meals. I would definitely recommend it.

Finding out that Pascal's pancake brunch - an old favorite, even before our "new normal" - is available again was an amazing surprise! You can call ahead or WhatsApp and safely pick up a weekend treat in a flash, and with a smile. Nothing like fluffy pancakes, maple syrup, and an iced mocha on a gorgeous Galway day to make you feel like normal again. I'll definitely be back often. Thanks Pascal!

Great little coffee shop and breakfast place in the Latin Quarter. Service was wonderful. Breakfast was very good - pancakes with berries, french toast, bagel sandwich, full Irish - all dishes were just what we needed to get our day started touring Galway. Highly recommend.

Sasauges were tasteless, eggs hard & rubbery, rashers fatty & all intertwined- unappetising! Ordered x2 childrens portions of pancakes - each item priced individually- total £ came to more than two full sized portions! Overpriced for what was mediocre quality. If you are charging full wack the quality must be on par. Unfortunately that was not our experience.

I visited Pascal with 4 of my students, 3 of which have very special needs. The service, care and attention was fantastic. We were not rushed, the students got to order and pay individually to develop independence and this was facilitated so well. A number of staff came to check how we were getting on throughout our time there which was above and beyond. The food was delicious and enjoyed by all. I couldn’t be more grateful for such a lovely experience for our group yesterday. Thank you to all the staff and keep up the great work!

Had breakfast here this morning with my husband and two kids. Cost us nearly 60euro for brekkie. Kids pancakes were good. Our 'full irish' on the other hand..my eggs were not done, not even soft just not done, beans were cold in the middle. Asked waiter nicely to sort this out and I he asks oh you want your eggs well done, no I say want them cooked but soft, came back like a piece of rubber after the lovely "chef" I presume walloped them under the grill, the toast incinerated, beans hot alright with a grill burn on top. Lovely. Now I know why you must pay beforehand.....

Worst Breakfast in over 30years . Full breakfast was so poor. Sausages poor quality & tasted of nothing looked to be boiled (Anaemic ) microwaved rashers were streaky and all mangled together. Greasy plate of food! My Bagel was stale with the same awful quality of sausage/rasher.. have to pay for food first then looked as same girl reheats/microwaves the precooked bland food. €28 was dearest I ever paid in Galway . And the worst food!

Wow! Your worst breakfast in over 30 years!! This is probably the worst review in my 15 years in business!! Luckily, going by the 2,000+ online reviews we do have, your sentiments are clearly not mutual amongst the hundreds of customers we get through our doors each day. I do apologise if our food was not to your liking, can I ask did you make your dissatisfaction known to us on the day? We would have been more than happy to refund you or offer you an alternative. I’m also confused as to how this was the most expensive breakfast you have paid for in Galway. I would love to find out where - other than fast food restaurants - you were able to get a full breakfast for less than the €13.50 we charge for ours. I take online reviews and feedback very seriously and always do everything I can do improve on commonly mentioned shortcomings. However sometimes it is clear someone was just having a bad day, and there isn’t much I can do about that. Hopefully your review will not greatly affect our TripAdvisor rating, where we’ve somehow held to number 1 and 2 spot for cafés in Galway for the last few years. All the best. Pascal.
