I ordered the seafood plate this evening and was disgusted with what was put on a plate for seafood in the centre of Galway. The prawns were the cheapest frozen prawns to be got, not even bothered to be seasoned and the crab meat was...canned 😒🤮. The oysters of which there were 2 were listed on the menu as pacific oysters. I did query initially why pacific as opposed to Galway bay which you would expect as they are world famous. They were definitely not pacific oysters as I am very familiar with them and when queried was told they were a new pacific type introduced to Irish waters, I would seriously question why a new species would be introduced to famous Irish oyster waters???? Misrepresenting a product is a serious matter. The plate was eventually comped, however the server dealing with this was less than pleasant, arguing initially, very disappointing for the centre of Galway and I would neither recommend this pub for food or after sales service 😤More

We had a breakfast and a dinner here and found it to be a lively pub with good food. Overall an enjoyable experience.

We were a party of 20 eating in An Pucan last week. We ranged in age from 12 to 60. The food was mostly fine, although a stew was sent back and what was described as ‘with salad’ was disappointingly just a garnish drowned in...dressing. Anyway, these things can be forgiven. What I can’t stand are rude staff. Our waiting staff were great. Friendly and attentive. One of the bar staff however completely let the bar down with his behaviour. He berated me for not being clear about the wine I ordered. I’m not a wine drinker really and asked for two glasses of pinot and when he started pouring white wine I said to him, no, the red wine. That’s when he rolled his eyes, told me I should be clearer and even asked the other barman if anyone in his 7 years as a bar man had ever meant Red when they ordered a pinot. I was made to feel really stupid in front of everyone and I went home a bit deflated. I don’t think his attitude towards me was justified at all. Making another person feel bad is a mean spirited and unprofessional thing to do. I’ve actually never been spoken to like that before and was really taken aback. It’s moments like this that stay with us.More

If you seek traditional Irish food when visiting Galway, An Pucan has never disappointed. Fantastic food, well-priced, and lots of it! Staff is super efficient and friendly and pours the creamiest Guinness ever. A must-have is their chowder and brown bread, absolutely the best ever!

My husband and I were planning on coming here for after dinner drinks, but ended up going for dinner. I got the steak and he got the steak sandwich, service was fast and super friendly, and the portions were good size! Food came out pretty...fast.The steak and steak sandwich were both good, just a little under seasoned (personal preference). My steak was also a bit overcooked for my taste even though I asked for medium rare. The atmosphere is wonderful and the outdoor beer garden is really cute and super fun vibes. They did have live music too, which was fun! The only down side was it gets pretty crowded with a younger crowd. Food was better than expected and service remained friendly when it got super packed. The bathrooms remained pretty clean which was nice to see too.More

Decent pub and grub. Great spot for watching sport also, the beer garden out back is ideal on a sunny day, plenty of seating and screens. Guinness not great through, the only downside. Worth a visit if looking for some decent pub grub

Between 2 of us we ordered two pitchers of daquari cocktail for €32 a go, spent €64 to drink icy juice. The cocktails are €10 each so I was expecting for a pitcher there would be at least 4 cocktails worth of alcohol content (in...that 4 cocktails would be €40 but a pitcher was saving a bit of money for values sake). It tasted like a negligible amount of alcohol was added and in fact I very much suspect it was heavily watered down or the whole idea is you think you're getting good value but it's likely less alcohol per pour than your average cocktail. It was undrinkable for a while due to the amount of ice. Very disappointing, we could've had a couple of bottles of wine for that price. In fact we could've had approximately 12 pints between the 2 of us. It tasted lovely and the atmosphere was great but for €64 we both ought to have been a bit tipsy leaving, we were both very disappointed to be practically stone cold sober after two pitchers . Would be hesitant to go for cocktails again based on alcohol content from our experience this evening. Staff friendly.More
