So, we finally ventured out on a weekend visit to Galway and An Pucan came highly recommended. We did not have a reservation (emailed but no response) but they fitted us in. Excellent attention to detail on explaining how things are done in the new era with regards to Covid-19. Then to the meals - I had an excellent beer battered sole, the rest of the family also very hapy with two chicken dishes and an excellent vegetarian option. I also decided it was time for a pub Guinness - it was wonderful. Staff are attentive and friendly, meals were great value and even in the limited number of people out, you could see the place has the potential to have a great atmosphere when lockdown eases. Will be back!

• Wow, what a lively place – we had an absolutely delicious meal here whilst staying in Galway last month. It’s directly across the road from where we were staying, and considering the heavy rainfall we experienced during our stay, we just dashed across the road. Any port in a storm – but what a port this turned out to be! It was at the beginning of the Covid-19 scare and we were delighted to see that sanitising bel was provided on a high table, so customers entering were reminded to use it. It was unbelievable the number of people who actually read the sign and walked past it – utterly selfish in our view. However, the bar staff were terrific and called people back to the table if they observed them walking in without cleansing their hands. Understandably as the evening wore on and the place got very busy, the bar staff weren’t able to see everyone who came in and we did see quite a few people stop to read the sign, and just walk on. This was very unnerving considering this establishment serves food. There was a great traditional music session starting up the two men played multiple instruments between them, singing some great old favourites along with some instrumental numbers. We ordered Bacon and Cabbage and Prawn and Chorizo for mains, and then had two gorgeous desserts. The food in An Púcán is second to none, good hearty food beautifully prepared and presented. Service was second to none, and staff were very friendly. We highly recommend this place for the music, food, atmosphere and great value – don’t miss it next time you visit Galway City

Central location near Eyre Square. Nice decor, very helpful staff. Good prices, crab sandwich, two sprites, a bites to share platter and two pints, along with two cocktails only cost €55, delicious food, great service, would recommend.

Great place was greeted by a lovely young girl who had all the time in the world for us to make myself and my partner feel welcome, although we were approached by a young waitress called Aoife was very rude and irresponsible toward our fe long & who mentioned it wasn’t “10 o clock at night” as we were communicating with a table next to us about our plans and travels around galway. She was very rude and made us feel very silly and unappreciated of out custom as we were only practicing Adam the lovely man who looked after us and also the wonderful bar man Johnny. If you want to feel welcome and appreciate during the pandemic And feel like relaxed do NOT go to an púcan the staff are clearly not trained in customer service! Our Time in Galway was left to an absolute disaster as we felt so uncomfortable at this place we didn’t even finish our drinks and food because of know we were made feel so unwelcome. Aoife had no manners and for such a highly professional and recommended place we will definitely Not be back because of how this young girl made us feel. Little does show know we can tell the time and we didnt need her to state the time to us like we were stupid, and stupid is how she made us feel. High of disrespect and regard for her customer service, many due to management employing younger staff who have no respect for there alders. Also ordered nachos for the value of 9.95 and we server mostly likely dog meat, inedible & so so smelly might of even been off date, when we came back to our table from the smoking our nachos were cleared not that was asked to be but my partner was more than happy to have them off the table as they made her feel violently ill. The smell was almost unbearable !!!

My partner and I went to an Púcán for a bite of food before heading home, bringing our anniversary to a close. We ordered 1/4 dozen of the natural galway oysters which were beautifully presented. We then ordered the jalapeño beef burger and the crab claws and both were once again presented beautifully and very good portions sizes (for 17.95 £ got in or around 15 crab claws which is fantastic value in this day and age) The drinks in an púcán were top quality as I had 2 hendricks gins, my partner had 2 pints of carlsberg, and these were followed with some of the nicest Long Island Ice Teas both my partner and I have ever tried. Interior was lovely and very spacious with a lovely beer garden/smoking area out the back which was very well presented and organised. Staff were also lovely and very pleasant to deal with. All in all we had a fantastic experience and we would recommend this establishment to anyone.

Had a booking for 8.00 o clock. Got seated and the first time we were approached by a waitress was 8.20 and have proof of that by receipt if requested( booked under the name siobhan on the date this review was posted) . Was limited to a finger food Menu which was not made known by either the website nor the person we booked with and was very disappointed when we received dry onion rings, dried cocktail sausages and dried up chips for dinner. We asked to go for cigarette, we were told go out the back by a woman behind the bar or we could go outside front. We went out the front to be challenged by bouncer and told next time go to the back??? We were sat closer to the front so we went that way (the section which staff ignored) only for bouncer to tell us not to go that way?? Like I thought we had the option??. Took at least half Hour between drinks, ONLY for a young girl with blonde braids that held the whole show together only for her we would have left earlier she should be paid three wages. Ruined the entire night the service was that bad. If you can’t handle turning a smoking area into a dining area due to pure GREED and overworking staff, just don’t do it? Appalling and will never return and are cancelling our booking for tomorrow. Disgusting microwaved food and equally dis bothered staff with ZERO experience. Don’t rush to open because of Covid ye must be very bad off. Also, the heads on that Heineken leaving that bar...shocking.

Visited this place on tuesday at around half 12. Right on time, because it filled up soon after!! I had the cajun chicken blaa with cajun fries, my friend had the Cuban with fiery, and her son had pasta with chicken and tomato sauce. Food was DELICIOUS. Bit too much rocket for my liking on the blaa, but easily picked off. Cajun fries were so yummy! My friend said her sandwich was great and so were her fries. I disagreed about her fries, but then I cant handle quite as much spice as she can! Her son ate as much pasta as you can expect a 1 year old to eat, and stole some of her sandwich, so no complaints from him either! The staff were nice, but what really made me want to leave a review was the lovely staff member behind the bar. He was nice and friendly and really made us feel welcome. The girls on the floor were grand, but he really made the experience great for me. Paid for the food, we were finished even if her son was still picking a bit, but then her baby needed a bottle. Got her all fed, and didnt feel rushed at all to get out and free up the table like some places make you feel once you've paid the bill. So yes, delicious food and a really lovely staff member makes for a 5* perfect lunch. Will be coming back for sure.

Food was amazing crab claws were the best I have ever had. Service from start to finish was a disaster had a reservation (waited two days for a reply on this). Lady who sat us was very disoriented and clearly under pressure place was not busy and menus were put on our table which had not been cleaned down when I asked Her to do it she threw her eyes up like it was an inconvenience to have a clean table to sit at I would expect a clean table COVID or no COVID. Our waitress who was a supervisor I later found out when I asked her name when I was leaving (molly) was the rudest person I have ever experienced in a customer service setting in my life. We felt a total inconvenience to her and that he were in her way to her not so busy day (place was very quite) An Pucan felt very uninviting if your comfortable with that then have the crab claws. My husband had the steak sandwich and we said it was delicious also.

An Pucan was a fab place for lunch. They had a wide variety on the menu. The portions were huge and the food was delicious. Our waitress was great she was very attentive and ensured we were following all covid procedures. The cocktail menu was also unreal and I would have tried more if it was a bit later in the day but the white russian was gorgeous

Showed up to a table That couldn’t seat the amount we had booked for. Sat down for 15 minutes and then moved to another table. Food was poor, steak...bland didn’t even taste like steak. Chicken wings were burnt and when sent back the waiter basically said there’s nothing wrong and it was just the colour of the sauce. Not one person finished their food. Says a lot.

I would not recommend an pucan. The girl that served us was beyond rude and unhelpful. We made a booking however we were informed that we weren’t on the list and the girl couldn’t have been nicer in accommodating us then it wasn’t her fault at all and she was lovely. However the next girl we met was beyond awful she was rude arrogant unhelpful and spoke down to us. They advertised a sharing platter between two however she wouldn’t let us get it because she said we had to spend 9€ each. This wouldn’t have been an issue however she sneered at us when we ordered a sharing platter and informed us that we were only spending 13€ and laughed at us. This was beyond intimidating and we felt we wouldn’t have been treated like this only that we were a group of early 20 year old girls. After that there was a boy that served us our drinks and he was a gem.

Went here with my friends for food and drinks, I think we got a main and 5 or so drinks each in the time we were there-only cost 200 between us. Great wuality food as usual. When we arrived the girl at the front desk informed us we werent on the list-this was all sorted when we showed her the booking email though so all okay!

We had a 2 course meal and a few drinks here at lunchtime. We were all starving and got slightly overwhelmed by the HUGE menu. But after eventually deciding what we were having, we weren't disappointed. The food was lovely, presented nicely, and very tasty. The staff were very obliging. My 2 year old fell asleep before his food arrived and the lady offered to put his dinner into a takeaway box. Its the little things that count. Will be back for a visit the next time we go to Galway

We ate here recently during our staycation. I had communicated with a member of staff over Facebook to book at table, the communication was quick easy and simple. Upon arrival we were greeted by a lovely girl, who gave us the run down on the covid procedures. We were shown to our table and promptly given menus. Our orders were taken by a lovely waitress who could not have been more helpful, she was very friendly and cheery. Our drinks were brought by a lovely barman who again was very helpful and friendly. I can not praise the staff highly enough. They are doing a fantastic job during what are very difficult times. On top of the wonderful service, the food is exceptionally good. The wings are to die for and the steak was also fab. The presentation of all of the food was lovely and it really did not disappoint. I also had some cocktails which were wonderful and reasonable priced. The bar itself was also very clean and every precaution was taken. The bathrooms were well stocked and cleaned regularly also. Overall I would highly recommend An Pucan to anyone.

Food was absolutely to die for, however I cannot say the same about the service. We sat in the outdoor area, and were very disappointed with the service. I asked for a soft drink as a pint and was informed this was not possible (it’s not that hard to put 2 bottles of soft drink into a pint glass). We sat 20 minutes before our plates were cleared, and ended up not ordering desserts due to the wait of 15 mins from when we received menus till the staff came to take our dessert order. This would be acceptable on a busy day, however the time in question was not so. Would definetly return for food, but not the service....
