Excellent Christmas Eve Dinner!

We stumbled upon this restaurant primarily because it was getting late in the day on Christmas Eve and things were shutting down. We passed a few other places that were open but once we saw the menu of Trattoria Magnetti and figured out they could seat us quickly we decided to give it a try. It turned out to be fantastic all the way around! Food was delicious, service was great even though they were busy, one of the owners came by our table and chatted with us for a while and the surprise at the end was this wonderful Italian dessert their pastry chef had made for Christmas Eve that they served us complimentary servings of. It was to die for and I would have gladly paid for it after tasting it! Soooo good and such a wonderful authentic Italian gesture.

Great food, excellent service would recommend

Delicious food and fantastic service. I had the caprese salad and spinach and ricotta ravioli both dishes were very tasty and would recommend both. My husband had bruschetta and seafood ravioli on the recommendation of the waitress both dishes unreal. Very filling and the service was very prompt. Would definitely be back.

Booked this place but never dined here before. I’m so glad we did because of all the places we ate in Galway over a 4 day break this restaurant was our favourite. We had a starter and main course each followed by coffees and also a couple of beers each. The food tasted amazing, the staff were so nice to us and the atmosphere was very relaxed and informal. Giving the fact we are living through a pandemic and we all have to do our share to keep infections down we saw the staff cleaning constantly and making sure everyone followed protocol by sanitising hands on entry. I would happily recommend this restaurant and I can’t wait to return. If you find fault with this little gem tucked away in central Galway well you must be very hard to please.

Worse service in our collective 200 years plus

My second review ever on this site, first was positive about a different place. Felt compelled to warn others. Service is dreadful. Staff act like you’re an inconvenience and interrupting their chat. Will take food orders, run away. Have to call back to order drink. One drink order taken, run away- have to call back. Slammed food/drink items on table. Any dish we asked to be modified wasn’t modified and item brought against request. Lucky it was just a preference and not an allergy. Staff have their back to tables all night chatting behind the bar to each other. No manager taking control. Any other place in Salthill or Galway was a pleasure to attend- staff lovely and professional. Give this place a wide berth unless you like spending money to be ignored, insulted, made to feel like an inconvenience and all around mis treated. I cannot stress enough the shock we all felt at quite how bad the staff were in terms of being rude mannered and ignorant. I should say we are an easy going bunch who usually have good banter and craic with staff. If there are problems or delays we laugh with the staff and are in no way difficult to deal with. Saw two sets of people who weren’t quite as amiable walk out that night and could tell from the tension and overheard one convo, that they simply would not pay to be hate waited on

Came here with my partner with no booking and we were seated quickly by a very friendly waitress. Food and wine was gorgeous including the dessert, with the portion sizes being more than adequate for the price! The staff, despite being very busy were so, so lovely, really kind and charming. Couldn't recommend enough!

2 course meal on a busy Saturday night. We were seated very quickly although waited quite a while for someone to take our order. Starters were served fast, one of the starters we received was wrong(server never wrote down our order) bread was lovely as was the antipasto starter. It all went down hill from here. We waited at least 30mins from finishing our starters to our main which was two pizzas. When the pizzas arrived they were crisp and severely over salted. We couldn’t eat them and I like my food with extra salt. Service was slow, waiters kept forgetting about us as we sat outside. There were people loitering in the seating area of the restaurant having chats with the staff which really didn’t help the restaurant’s atmosphere. Instead of having chats with friends while on shift they could take care of their customers before hand. Wouldn’t recommend this place apart from the starters.

Decent food but lack of knowledge of gluten free/ allergens

Slow service to begin with, waiting for up to 20 mins for food. Ordered a gluten free meal with huge emphasis on the fact that this is a serious allergy (celiac disease) and it was really important. The waitress advised us that all pasta was made gluten free and not to worry, of course we checked and confirmed several times just to be sure but we were advised it was okay! The food arrived and the gluten free meal/ pasta looked identical to the non gluten free, raising a few questions, once again, we asked and the waitress confirmed it was gluten free, just as my mum was about to take a bite the waitress runs back to say sorry it’s not gluten free, then we had to wait 10 mins for the gluten free option to come out. If it wasn’t for the persistent questions my mum would’ve been very ill For the mistake, we were offered 1 complementary glass of wine and nothing else. When it came to desert, the menu advised that the mousse was gluten free however, upon asking it was not. We would advise if you do have allergies to properly clarify before eating as we had a near miss!

Fabulous Service and Food

Our server was an utter delight when we had lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon last weekend. She couldn’t have been more helpful and it was obvious that social distancing and hygiene was very much a priority. The pizza was delicious, and we really enjoyed sitting outside. I’ll definitely be back.

Service leaves much to be desired

I’m local to the area and while the food may be good the service is far from what could be considered to be adequate for an establishment like this, with prices like this. For the second time now I tried to get pizza sandwiches for take away and for the second time I was left standing by the till while loads of staff ran around but not one person took my order, asked if I was ok, pointed me to a menu or anything at all. The hard part to understand was that this was later afternoon and only three table were occupied in the restaurant so there was approx the same amount of staff as customers. Everyone seemed very busy but completely unoccupied with wanting to serve me. Also, the pizza sandwiches here are priced at close to double what they are in another Italian establishment close by in Knocknacarra but I’m failing to see the justification in price for the service that is given. On another occasion I was pointed to a table but no one came back to take me order and I had to go to the till once more. Once or twice I can forgive but this place has failed on every occasion I have been there and I will not make the same mistake again

Had a lovely meal here. Staff are excellent. I thought the pasta dish was on the mean side in that it wasn’t enough for the price paid. They make their own stuff but approx 14 ravioli pieces is a tiny bit mean. My desert was Apple strudel and half wasn’t warmed up so that was a disappointment

Memorable for the wrong reasons

Ok, but I was dairy free and the bread at the start came toasted to a crisp and clarried in garlic butter. Even the rest of the family who like butter could not eat the stuff. The breadsticks couldn't be eaten by the kids because one end was in the olives and the other end got covered in garlic butter. The breadbasket was a nightmare dish for me, so it got sent back. I'm more used to bread and dips rather than this. I don't believe we got a refund. The restaurant staff were accommodating for the kids meals and one child could eat some of her spaghetti. But the other child did not like her pizza and so ate two bites only. My seafood risotto was ok. The other half liked his meal.

Terrible service, average food

When we arrived for Sunday lunch, the place was very quiet, there were a few staff, yet, took between 5 and 10 min to be seated. It took just over 40 min for the first person to be served after ordering! A gap of 5 min and 3 more people served… with the last person waiting… when we asked, they just say, yeah.. we had to ask again. And that’s when they realised they messed up the order. A few of us had coffee (while the last person was eating!!) These were brought but the table was not cleared even though everybody was finished apart from the forgotten one.. staff really needs proper training. The food was just ok, the bread of the bruschetta was so hard though, it was unpleasant to eat. Won’t be back unfortunately

Great service and happy atmosphere.

We were in Galway for our brothers Birthday and walked around looking for a place to have dinner on the Monday night when we came across this restaurant. I went in and asked was there space for 3 people and i immediately felt welcomed from the server. She said that she would come back and said she had a table and I waved for the others to come in. My brother is disabled but this server took it in her stride and got us settled. She apologised for the table as it was close to the kitchen but we were happy to be there. She went ahead and took our order and the same with my brother. ( you would not believe how many people do not do that) she understood what he was saying. In the meantime another group left and she offered us the table but we were happy where we were. We ordered the seafood ravioli, it was simply delicious as was the starter and the tiramisu was to die for. I ordered a bottle of Rossa Tuscany and my sister had the Pinot Grigio. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough not only for its food but also for the lovely atmosphere, friendliness and the welcome for all of us. Simply Brilliant

Took our party at the last minute!

We arrived in Galway just as dinner stopped being served at all the restaurants in the area. The manager of the restaurant seated us anyway, and we had some of the best food ofour trip (ravioli and bruschetta). I even ordered the same thing as carry out for lunch a few days later. Wonderful!

We came here after wondering around Galway - the prices seemed decent and it came recommended by our friends who enjoyed the Tiramisu on a previous visit. We ordered the bruschetta which whilst delicious, was a bit messy to eat, but the bread selection for the table was delicious, and we enjoyed the balsamic vinegar syrup as a dip. The mains were truly mindblowing; I had a carbonara pizza and my partner had mushroom risotto - the quality of the food and ingredients, as well as the flavours (actual eggs on a pizza with carbonara, never tried before but stunning combination) were surprising and delicious. It felt like high-class dining and was a highlight of our evening in Galway. We were so impressed we decided on desserts, which topped off a great meal. In addition, the service was top notch, and our server was friendly. All in all dinner for two was €60, which considering the quality was great value.
