About
Kashmir restaurant is Galway’s oldest Indian restaurant. It was established in 1994 by the Bhan family who named in after their homeland, the beautiful Valley of Kashmir, described by one of the mogul emperors as “paradise on earth”. The restaurant was originally located in Mary Street where it quickly gained a reputation for friendly hospitality and exceptional cuisine. In 2000 due to its popularity and the need for extra space the restaurant moved to its present home in Kilderry House (opposite Galway Fire Station).

We went for dinner as a family of 3 at the recommendation of the hotel we were staying at. We made a reservation about an hour before we arrived. It was lovely and if we were ever in Galway again, we would definitely return. We had a mixture from the menu and every crumb was eaten. We had chicken tikka masala, onion bhaji, saag aloo, samosas, rice, naan and chips. Everything was delicious.

The food here is just wonderful. My family and I visit her often and we have never been disappointed yet. The staff are very attentive and friendly. The curries are so tasty and full of flavor and the meat is exactly the right texture. The restaurant fully caters to our needs in terms of mildness of spice and hotness. I reccomend this restaurant to anyone looking for good authentic affordable Indian food

Visited this restaurant last week. On the website they stated that they offered an early bird menu. We hoped to avail of this but when we arrived we were told that it wasn’t on. Welcome was courteous but not overly friendly. Food was fine, piping hot....... but flavour was nothing special. There are a couple of other Indian restaurants nearby - I’m sorry I didn’t check them out before going into Kashmir, mainly because I was interested in having a dinner deal. Bathrooms clean and we felt that the restaurant was taking necessary Covid 19 precautions.

During lockdown we had a takeaway from Kashmir. We spent around 70 Euro and it was dreadful. Korma was so disgusting that my son was almost crying when we encouraged him to eat it. My husband tasted it and immediately put it in the sink. I washed all the sauce off and chopped up the chicken and gave it to our dog. Mine was vegetarian and edible but so sweet and no spice. The other two dishes were the same truly awful. Starters were overcooked and oily. The rice was lovely as was the plain naan. The worst part of this that was when I emailed to complain and explain our experience I was given a detailed account of how the food should be and basically insinuated that we had no idea of the food should be like. I lived abroad for years and had many Indian friends who I ate out with and they also cooked in their homes for my family. I know the cuisine very well. I was also told that they would give me 10% off my next order. I wouldn't return if it was free. Dreadful customer service. Complete waste of money.

Ordered my main course specifically requested no Peas (as I’m allergic to peas)- of note the dish was not listed to come with peas on the menu. Waitress was very good and wrote down the order with no peas. Half way through eating main course I noticed I was having a mild allergic reaction, fished through the vegetables in the dish and found a pea in the dish. Complained to wait staff who were very good and asked was I ok etc. Wanted to just go so we got the bill. They attempted to charge me for my main course with the peas contaminating. I had to again complain/ feedback about this as I didn’t feel this was appropriate given the seriousness of their mistake- the manager came over, had to explain the issue again to him. He was very rude and tried to blame his wait staff in front of us who were also there- I told him it wasn’t their fault and the chef maybe to blame. He then said he would take the cost of my main course off the bill, which was what should have happened in the first place without us asking. This is a serious issue which I feel the management in the restaurant need to be more aware of and take more seriously. They were treating the mistake the same as if food had been served cold or given meat instead of fish in dish etc, where in reality allergic reactions can lead to death in some cases. People also sue for these kind of incidents. So the way this was handled by the restaurant manager showed severe lack of acknowledgement of the seriousness of allergic reactions and allergen contamination. On another note, it was very clear that the staff are treated poorly. The wait staff seemed scared of the manager/ older man who was in a suit. There was not enough staff for how busy the restaurant was and the service was overall poor. Also, the food as Indian food goes was mediocre at best. Would not go back based on that alone.

Myself and my partner went in for a second time last night, first time being a couple of weeks ago and that time was perfect. Staff were lovely very helpful but at the end of the main course the manager came to clear the table and asked why I didn't finish my food ( we had just ordered too much and left the chicken from the kormas on the plates it was nothing personal) and he then proceeded to ask my partner why he didn't finish his either. And passive aggressively cleared the table and continued to give us a side eye for the rest of the night. Food was decent enough, have had decent experiences in there but this service just left such a bad taste in my mouth. After paying, my partners wallet went missing. We walked a 2 minute distance from the restaurant to a pub near by after our meal and as he got to the door he realized it wasn't in his pocket and that he might have left it on the table in the restaurant. We went back in to check and the people serving us all night were very helpful, took my partners details and said they would ring if anything showed up and let me check the table again. Unfortunately nothing showed up but we were very grateful for the woman that helped us try and find it . Definitely will not be going back after this experience.

The Korma tasted like custard there was so much sugar in it and not even a kind of a slight bit of spice. We ordered a side of vegetables, they where saturated in oil, it took 4 lumps of tissue to mop it up (as were starving and thought sure well make the best of it) even then, bitting into the vegetables nothing but oil fell out of them! On top of that no rice came with one if the Kormas and i was still charged, neither my boyfriend or I could eat anything apart from the poppadoms! Worst of all when we rang to complain we got shouted at and told it was the same recipe for 25 years & we were the problem, when I said we were left with no choice other than to leave an honest review he got irrate and became even ruder, claiming we were bad people?! He kept shouting, and repeating himself and refused to listen to either of us. AVOID, we spent over 30 euro and were left hungry with nothing but a bad tsste in our mouths and a light pocket.

It was the best Indian restaurant my girlfriend and I have ever been to. The staff were very friendly and well-trained. The food was of another level and great value. The waiter even brought a cake down and sang happy birthday as it was my girlfriends birthday. Will most definitely be back!!!!

food was terrible rip off for the price only soup and no vegetables, cheaply produced food, I will not order again from Kashmir, soup is what I got, no vegetables added in the dishes just poorly put together meal no effort, soup in a dish. Not happy and will not deal with them again. lacks ingredients and paying nearly €30 for it I may as well have ordered soup 3 times, it was path ethic meal. Poor show from Kashmir in Galway. Terrible! order was early but easy when you dish out soup to take out orders. Degusted and plan to never order again! Not the 1st time they have done this to me!

A couple of my friends and I recently did a takeaway from here. Kashmir has been an old favourite and they didn't disappoint this time either. We ordered some lamb chicken taka tak, lamb himalayas, sheekh kebabs and some nan bread with pilau rice. Very well spiced with delicious flavours and good portion sizes. Its quite our favourite Indian restaurant in Galway.

The service was good. The starters - lamb kebabs and onion bhajis were good. The main dishes, however, left a lot to be desired. The chicken jalfreezi was ok, but the Vegetable Korma was not edible. It tasted like coconut ice cream with a bag of frozen veggies heated up in it. I’ve had korma in several different places including India and it has never been this bad. The waitress told me it was Irish korma and that it would be the same in all Indian restaurants in Ireland. Iveyhad really good Indian food in Limerick and Dublin that didn’t taste like they dumped sugar into it. My recommendation is to try another restaurant. Don’t waste you money on this one.

This review is based less on the quality of the food and more about how the owner or person in charge of the front of the house initially denied service to a person with a seeing eye dog. Two women came in having made a reservation and were told they could not enter with a service animal. One woman tried to explain that it was a service animal and it was allowed and the man told her no. They left and returned with a man who more forcefully explained it was allowed and eventually the owner/ manager relented and allowed it but made a big deal about nobody sitting at the table near them because there was a dog. I'm from the US and considered that in Ireland the same non-discrimination laws may not apply, but I just looked it up and service animal are in fact allowed in establishments serving food. I hope Kashmir staff educate themselves and provide more equitable treatment to their guests in the future. Observing this ruined the meal for me, unfortunately.

We booked a table but did not need that, as we arrived just after they opened. The food and service are superb, with every dish well seasoned. I love my food spicy, my wife not. They easily accommodated us both. In the States I eat Scotch-Bonnets and find Jalapeños tasty treats and eat them by the bowl. So two-chili churry was mild for me. The hottest vindaloo is rated a four, but they'll adjust the heat to fit your preferences. Of more importance is how the flavors are blended in Indian food. My Bengali Lamb Curry and my wife's Butter Chicken were cooked to perfection, with savory spices and tomato well blended. The meat was also tender We ordered the Kashmiri rice (a bit like pilaf) and Naan. You will not be disappointed in them. I'm looking forward to exploring their Vegetarian and tandoori dishes on my next visit to Galway. Please ignore the biased one-star review you'll see for this place. The same fellow did that for EVERY Indian place in this part of Galway. Axe to grind, much?
