Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stopped by Fitzgeralds for a drink. From the moment I approached the bar, Max greeted me with a warm smile and gave me a great first impression of the place. Rest of the staff also friendly and enjoyed the pints here. Will definetly be stopping...next time for food as I enjoyed the quiet atmosphere.More

Poor. Food was bland and overcooked. The mayo we asked for when the food arrived only came after we had finished. The mayo was the tastiest thing on the table. Staff do not work as a team. Nothing good to report.More

Highly recommend this hotel and bar. From check in to check out everything went perfect. The girl on reception(forget her name) was very friendly, polite and helpful. Helped us to get a taxi to salt hill. Had dinner and drinks in the bar, which is...highly recommend. It was a very busy Saturday with rugby on and the 2 girls running food could not have been more helpful, with helping us find a table and very quick and professional service. I think their names were Ellie and Molly. I’m sure they were under pressure with how busy the bar was but they never showed it. The two young men behind the bar again we could not have expected anything more from them. Quick, friendly and mannerly. I’d like to give Max and Ben a mention. Overall I’d highly recommend M Fitzgeralds whether it’s for an overnight stay in their beautiful rooms or food and drink in the bar. I’ll definitely return soon thanks.More

Before writing my review I read the previous ones. The most recent are all very poor, after which there is a batch of 5 stars. My guess is that the bad reviews coincide with the transition from 1520 to M.Fitzgerald's, which the staff told us...was due to be completed by St. Patrick's Day. When we went, while staying at the Residence Hotel which is attached, the M. Fitzgerald's sign was up outside (which confused us!) but all of the 1520 branding inside remained. The decision appears inexplicable. Not only will it incur the substantial cost of replacing everything from the inhouse videos to the paper napkins to the staff t-shirts, but 1520 was a very distinctive name which made the bar stand out from all the others along the main drag, which either have other typically Irish names (Sonny Molloy's, Murphy's) or typical pub names (the King's Head, the Bunch of Grapes). 1520 was unique. The branding insists that the new M. Fitzgerald's is a "traditional Irish bar". The old 1520 could not have been mistaken for anything else from its decor, without having to be pedantically specific. I would guess the management has been listening to some overpaid marketing wonk instead of following that sensible old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!". The worst is, the staff told us that the menu will be revised, specifically to remove the Spanish tapas, presumably being regarded as not traditionally Irish enough, even though we were told they were the most popular. Clearly the management gives more credence to their advisor than their staff and customers. As it happens, it was the tapas that attracted us to eat at 1520. There was a selection of tempting individual dishes but, to avoid having to chose, we opted for the tapas platter. This was not only delicious but, at €25, astoundingly good value given that one can easily pay that for a single main dish these days. The next morning we had an excellent fry from the brunch menu. Despite some of the comments about poor service, we found the staff both pleasant and efficient. So to the rating. I am giving 3 stars, being the average between the 5 stars for food and service I would have given to 1520 and the 1 star for being thoroughly irritating I would give to M. Fitzgerald's. I do not think I can recommend the new version, and my wife and I doubt whether we will be back, either to the bar or the hotel. Pity!More

Booked our group of 12 in advance of visit. Staff member did not write down our food order as a result a lot of the orders were mixed up and brought out in dribs and drabs. Had to ask a few times for condiment's. Most...of the food was lukewarm and not very tasty and expensive for just pub grub. Atmosphere was not great and it felt cold. Staff were not very friendly and if you are a Smithwicks drinker avoid as they don't do itMore

Called in last weekend for dinner and drinks. Place was very quiet and really cold. Took away totally from our visit. We had a range of main courses which were good but no better. One of the dishes, Irish stew, was lukewarm and with very...little meat or veg. Having had a couple of great visits here a few years ago we were disappointed this time. Place was so cold we left after our food and went elsewhere.More

Booked this venue for a hen party and we were really disappointed with it. First of all it was impossible to get in contact with them. They rarely answer their phone, email was only slightly better. Secondly, I had enquired if we could book a...drag queen to come to the venue for an hour and if they would be able to accommodate this. I waited over a week for a response (which was fine) because it had to be checked with managers. I eventually got through to them for an answer, they told me it was fine to book and that they’ve had drag queens there before during the day. When we arrived that evening, they didn’t have enough space for the party of 20 never mind the drag queen. I spoke to the manager on the night re the issue. She couldn’t remember talking to me about the drag queen. We would never have booked her if we thought it wouldn’t have worked out. We managed to get a barrel and outside high table for 4 more people to sit at but they were separated from the rest of the party and seated at a doorway for the stairs to the toilet which was quite busy. When the drag queen arrived it wasn’t possible for her to do what she was booked for. If we had been told initially that it wasn’t a venue for this we would have completely understood. We spent a lot of money on it and in the end we decided the drag queen couldn’t fulfil her role in the venue. It was a complete waste of money. Also the week leading up to the booking I tried ringing to give the final number of platters we needed for the night. I couldn’t get through so I emailed instead. I was told I needed to pay before the evening which was completely fine but I couldn’t get through to them to make the payment. On the morning of the hen I had to make my way to the venue to pay as I was afraid they wouldn’t have food for us unless I paid for it before we arrived. When I got there the worker told me the phones had been down for the last week. An email stating that the phones were down would have been really appreciated to let people who had booked into the venue know. This just added stress to the day of the hen because we were already busy with organising everything. Continuously ringing this venue became very frustrating in the end. The stress this venue added to what should have been a really enjoyable event was unnecessary and avoidable. I feel others should be aware of this prior to booking. I would not be recommending this venue! They really need to improve their communication and form a more experienced, reliable team in 1520.More

Myself and some friends went in on a Friday evening a few weeks ago and can I just say it will be the last time we do. Service was incredibly slow for starters, it was not busy enough for us to be waiting THAT long...maybe management need to train their staff better and on top of that, the pint of Guinness that was served was genuinely horrific. Undrinkable, seemed like the young man who poured it had never done so before? Another pint of Coors had a massive head on it. I really do not want to criticize young staff so much but dear me, someone needs to run 1520 better get their staff up to scratch because they are going to start losing business very soon and I can say we won’t be coming back.More
