Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Being an American couple, this was an absolutely wonderful evening. All of the credit is due to Mattia and Valentino for making us feel at home in a different continent. Every meal that was brought out, was thoroughly explained and then we had a suggested...pairing. I can't think of a more romantic end to an Ireland trip than a dinner at the Fahrenheit restaurant at the Clontarf Hotel. SLÁINTEMore

Beautiful ambiance, the meal was delicious and the service was atrocious. It was a Sunday night, my birthday, 7 pm, and the restaurant was not at all crowded. After my wife and I were seated, it took 15 minutes for the waiter to return and...take our drink order. We each ordered a glass of Shiraz. He came back with an open bottle that had one glass left and said he’d be right back. 10 minutes later he returned to tell us they had to go down to the wine cellar to get another bottle as they didn’t have any more in the restaurant. In the meantime our appetizers were brought out. I had the pork belly and my wife had the heirloom tomatoes and asparagus. Both were wonderful. He finally came back with the new bottle of wine, after we were nearly done with the appetizer. Next up was the main course. We both had the beef with potato and veg. Again, delicious. Then dessert. I had the elderberry panacotta and my wife had the chocolate tart with clementine sorbet. The waiter asked us if we wanted coffee or cappuccino with dessert. We both said yes. 10 minutes later he finally brought them out but dessert was long finished. We drank our cappuccino and basically never saw the waiter again. We were apparently invisible. We waited nearly 30 minutes after we were done with our cappuccinos to finally get our check, after asking the manager for it, even though 15 minutes earlier we did motion to the waiter and he seemed to acknowledge. Since it was now close to 9:30 instead of 8:45, our plans to go out and have a drink were basically ruined.More

The meal was one of the best meals I have ever had. The consommé was full of flavor. The sea bream was crispy on the outside and moist and delicious inside. It was served on a bed of fresh peas and mussels. It was just...so good, I cannot say enough about it. The chocolate tart was delicious, very rich and shareable. Highly recommend. Compliments to the chefMore

Amazing! To experience the modern 21st Century aesthetics in a 12th Century Castle, enjoying and engaging the history as you sip on fine Cognac as a late-night Cocktail or Nightcap could not be any more remarkable than experiencing it here! The feel of history abounds...in the preserved atmosphere, with the spaciousness and décor of this sophisticated Pub. This distinctive place is similar no other – going back in time, with the convenience and comfort of today. The food is excellent, the Wait Staff Superb, and management knows how to make your visit excuisite. Even if you do not have the opportunity to actually stay at the Clontarf Castle, stopping in for a drink or dinner, is well worth the trip while in Dublin. Kudos to the management and staff who make the visit ever more so the incredible experience it is.More

After being pressured into having 100 Euros placed in a hold on my account by the front desk (to be spent at the restaurant or bar), it was impossible for me or my girlfriend to spend it. We went down to their lounge/bar, “Indigo”, around...9:30pm. Nobody was there. We waited 10 minutes. There was no response, not even a menu to look at. We went to the second floor to the restaurant. It was overstaffed with uncooperative people. First they insisted that we have a reservation when there were more than 10 unoccupied tables. Next, there were foodstains on the menus and my girlfriend and I got different menus(there were marked differences on the second page). Finally and most offensively, they were pretentious and uncooperative in trying to make alterations to dishes so that my girlfriend could eat them. I specifically put a note in the hotel reservations online that our party had food allergies. They were so inflexible in their prix-fixe menu that they wouldn’t change dishes. It said on our shabby, stained, inconsistent menus that the chef would be happy to remove allergens. Apparently this was not true. They even labeled all allergens on the menu as required by Irish law. My girlfriend has a condition whereby food allergies can lead to permanent, irreversible brain-damage, PKU. But the restaurant was either unwilling or unable to accommodate her. This type of behavior is discriminatory, ignorant, and led to neither me nor my girlfriend enjoying our first night stay there.More

We had a little hiccup with service at the start which meant I couldn't give it 5 stars but the male manager who took over was superb, ironed out our problems and gave us impeccable service from then on. The food was absolutely out if...this world and I honestly can't remember as good a meal anywhere, ever.More

Went for coffee and a scone on Mothers day, not much staff in the reception area to attend to those having tea/coffee. The one waiter that was there was incredibly rude. The carvery did smell amazing so instead of battling for a table down at...the Yacht we decided to invite the family down and suggest eating here instead. Well, I wouldn't go back again. Staff were even grumpier in the carvery. Asking for water was like asking to dontate a kidney. The man serving at the carvery was rude, asked for a little more stuffing as he gave 1/4 spoon and he gave out saying thats all they have left. Beef was chewy and potatoes were over salted. Pity - would have been nice to have found a nice new local carvery for a sundayMore

I was in the restaurant tonight with my sister and a friend who were celebrating their 60th birthday. There were four of us. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was relaxing. Special word of thanks to our waiter Mattia from Italy, I hope I...spelt his name correctly. He was very professional and friendly. A great asset to the restaurant. Also the waitress from Argentina who had a lovely smile and great personality. I believe good staff are so important in the hospitality sector and you have them! Thanks also to the chef. Gracias. Our party of 6 visited Fahrenheit restaurant for dinner on Sunday. We live locally, so have been in the Castle many times, but never in the restaurant. The experience was fantastic. The menu had a great selection for all tastes. The food was 5 star....Compliments to the chef! The restaurant is formal but with a relaxed atmosphere. What really made the experience special was the staff. We had Mattia and Francesco looking after us and they left no stone unturned to ensure we had everything we required. We forward to returning soon.More

Booked a table for six people to celebrate a birthday. Upon arrival was greeted by a very friendly and welcoming host. However, the smell that greeted us at the door of the restaurant was really bad. It lingered in the restaurant for the whole time...we were there. Not sure was it dampness, wet clothes, grease etc. Also the wooden floor was sticky as we walked across it to our table. Such a pity considering the beautiful historic surroundings and the very friendly staff. The food was also disappointing, sirloin steak was like rubber as were the oyster mushrooms served it it.More

Clontarf Castle always looks well. And even more so at Christmas time. The old building, the lights, the overall impression is so good. My advice, during the Christmas period, is, look, but don’t dare touch. The service, usually very good, is shocking. Our server mentioned,...at every opportunity, how busy they were, understaffed and dealing with greater than usual numbers of customers. ‘There’s a wedding on’. ‘There are groups of work colleagues’ ‘There are families’. unbelievable, Jeff! Worse was to follow. The food was nowhere near this venue’s usual standard, varying from poor to abysmal. Salt was rubbed vigorously into that particular wound by the accompanying Christmas time price hikes. The overcooked and tasteless chicken was quite disappointing. A single lonesome prawn hiding in the prawn curry, like some weird party game. A prawn and mussel curry that consisted mainly of a watery stock, with no more than the merest hint of curry about it. This was appalling. We spent a lot of money there that day, and got seriously poor value. If I do ever go back there, rest assured, it will not be at Christmas.More
