Clontarf Castle always looks well. And even more so at Christmas time.
The old building, the lights, the overall impression is so good.
My advice, during the Christmas period, is, look, but don’t dare touch.
The service, usually very good, is shocking. Our server mentioned,...at every opportunity, how busy they were, understaffed and dealing with greater than usual numbers of customers.
‘There’s a wedding on’. ‘There are groups of work colleagues’ ‘There are families’. unbelievable, Jeff!
Worse was to follow. The food was nowhere near this venue’s usual standard, varying from poor to abysmal. Salt was rubbed vigorously into that particular wound by the accompanying Christmas time price hikes.
The overcooked and tasteless chicken was quite disappointing.
A single lonesome prawn hiding in the prawn curry, like some weird party game. A prawn and mussel curry that consisted mainly of a watery stock, with no more than the merest hint of curry about it. This was appalling.
We spent a lot of money there that day, and got seriously poor value.
If I do ever go back there, rest assured, it will not be at Christmas.More
