Had the most delicious dinner at the Canal Bank Cafe. We shared the chicken wings to start, perfect amount of hot sauce and a large serving of wings. I had the Mexican Chicken Salad and my friend had the Prawn Poke Bowl and they were both delicious! Great wine and drinks/cocktails too! Will definitely be going back!

Eventually got back to the Canal Bank a few weeks ago after all the Covid restrictions eased sufficiently.
It really was a good as ever and it really brought home to us why this has been one of our favourite restaurants for many years now.
Staff are excellent - food remains brilliant - covid compliance was handled efficiently and discreetly without any fuss.
Still very highly recommended.

I was in Dublin for two nights on business and looking for somewhere to eat and was lucky enough to find the Canal Bank Cafe. The service was great, Paul was my main person and Amanda was great as well.
Paul brought me water when I sat down (sign of a great restaurant) and Amanda kept it topped up (so much nicer than having to ask for more). Paul also took my phone away to charge it and Amanda brought it back for me to take a picture of the meal to share with you and then put it back to charge
The food was wonderful. I had the ribs with matchstick fries and sauteed seasonal greens - a mix and match meal which was happily taken and delivered. The ribs were in the best rib sauce I have ever had and the veg really well made, the fries were crisp.
For desert I had the Sunday and this was good as well.

I've been a regular customer of Canal Bank over the past few years, dropping in for either lunch or dinner about twice a month, along with visiting their sister restaurant Tribeca in Ranelagh.
Firstly the food is always of high quality and well priced which is why I return.
Unfortunately I'm getting sick of the hit and miss nature of the service. It is "consistently inconsistent" and your experience entirely depends on which waiters are on duty.
On my last visit side orders never arrived, nobody checked on the table during dinner after mains were delivered to see how we are getting on, and it's impossible to get a waiters attention if you're seated down the back.
Having had issues with orders before I decided on this occasion I was not going to approach the bar this time to ask where our sides were and see if they actually came to our table to ask how is everything. Unfortunately nobody even bothered to check.
When somebody arrived to clear our table I was grunted at when I said sides never arrived, no apology, just a shrug of the shoulders.
Water rarely is topped up depending on what waiter you get which is frustrating when having their amazing chicken wings. Again this is basic service, and costs nothing.
We ordered another round of drinks after dinner and after 20 minutes I checked where it was and was told the delay was because the "Bar tender is on his break" ... simply not good enough
There are one or two really nice guys who are waiters there and myself and friends have had a great experience, but the others need to either be sacked or trained in basic service. For me I'm giving up going back and giving them business.

I have been a huge fan of Canal Bank, I usually would go for the ambience there but the Half portion of wings and chips with their house red wine is incredible value.
The staff are always so hospitable and genuinely nice kind people. They have nailed all aspects of their restaurant. I can only highly recommend Canal Bank

We were headed to a wine tasting and needed foo d before we went. We went in to order a light meal. Everything we had was excellent, the olives, the jalapeno peppers, the dressing on the chicken club had a nice bit to it, and the skinny fries / chips were amazingly fresh. I wish I was having dinner there, their menu was excellent. This is not a typical cafe, this is more upscale with a good menu selection, they have a great cocktail menu I will go back for, the food was fresh, fast and tasty. The service was absolutely perfect and it was her first day.

Absolute top place. We had lunch without a booking. The staff were totally excellent, friendly and on the ball. I had the fish and chips which was fresh, piping hot and very tasty. The drinks were served promptly, the restaurant was impeccable and overall the experience was first class. We would all 100% return here! 😃

Great service initially, alright food. Had shell-on gambas to start which were AMAZING, was really looking forward to my main of chicken supreme, but the prosciutto & some of the celeriac were very burnt, and the ‘roast baby potatoes’ were actually one huge potato cut into wedges & undercooked. The chicken and mushroom sauce were fine. The burnt items were left & the potatoes not touched but I wasn’t asked if there was a problem when my plate was collected. I was full so didn’t complain as I didn’t need more food, I just won’t go back.

Went for lunch to this cafe today with family. The food was ok, no discernible difference from any of the cafes in the locale. I paid the bill at the counter to our server and tipped him. I returned to the table where we stayed chatting for 10/15 minutes before leaving. On our way out, I made a point of thanking our server ( who had taken for the meal) and saying goodbye. Just as we went out the door, a middle aged member of staff ( assuming a manager) came running out after us to ask if we had paid, obviously not having bothered to check either with his colleagues or check the till system. When I explained we had, he didn't even have the courtesy to apologise. Certainly won't be returning, there are plenty of nicer cafes in the vicinity with appropriately trained staff

I live locally, and have always found this restaurant consistently top-notch, so I recommended it to my family for a large family reunion. We had a most fantastic evening here - the food, service and atmosphere was wonderful, so much so that we made a return visit the following night. Huge thanks to manager Sean and all the excellent staff!

Came here as a group of 8 for dinner after a day of meetings in a nearby hotel, chose the place mainly because it was very nearby on a rainy night and were happy with our choice. The atmosphere was bustling but not noisy with welcoming staff and a comfortable, roomy corner table. The menus were battered but full of promising options, drinks were served promptly and very nicely. We shared a huge pile of spicy wings as a starter and they were great, all wolfed down in no time and we seriously considered getting a second batch. For main I had the fish and chips which I thought was excellent in every component, others were very happy with their choices too. Throw in pretty reasonable prices and it all added up to a splendid night out, I ended up recommending the place to several others attending our events that week and they all reported the same.

Not my first time at this neighbourhood classic but my first in a while, having moved away from the area. This is a restaurant that just gets everything consistently right. The food is always tasty, the service personable and really good and the atmosphere very buzzy. There’s a reason this is always busy and a perennial favourite amongst locals. Well done Canal Bank Cafe.

On a Sunday evening, when pub kitchens and restaurants were closed, Canal Bank’s white and blue front shines as bright as the flavours they offered. We ordered the Jerk Chicken Salad and Roasted Chicken Curry Bowl and were delighted with the fresh ingredients. Service was prompt and friendly. The Blooming Basil cocktail was tangy and delicious. What a great way to complete our time in Dublin.

This was my third time visiting the restaurants. Amazing service each time. So consistent . Little touches like taking our coats off and hanging them up. Topping up our wine glasses without disturbing our gossip chat. Letting us know that we could stay and have the table even though the place was so busy and walk ins were trying to get a table. Really felt they do there very best to make the night an experience. Also the food and cocktails are amazing. I love the menu. They also do specials for each night. Could not fault it. Great atmosphere and lighting was perfect for dinning. I would recommend canal bank cafe to you to experience all that I have mentioned above.
