Went as a family and had a lovely meal.
Delicious ham croquettes to start and then one had the chicken Sunday roast and another the roast beef. Both very generous portions, but possibly to be expected given the price is slightly higher than elsewhere
Nice selection of beers available and wine if you want, and staff very friendly and made lovely efforts to make our daughter feel welcome.
Would definitely return for the roasts again!

We had read lots of reviews saying this restaurant served the best Sunday Roast in Dublin, however we were dissapointed. The food was nice but nothing amazing. The staff were really nice and friendly and there were lots of locals enjoying the food. Overall we thought the food was slightly over priced and wasnt anything special. We wont be returning in a hurry. Roast Beef was fatty and cut very thin. Portion sizes were on the small side.

What a lovely place. I visited The Old Spot in September with my husband & 2 young kids for a post school pick up treat. Big smiles & a warm genuine welcome from the Manager when we arrived. The waiter who took our order was great - ensuring the kids colours/drinks/food arrived promptly allowing us to have a break & enjoy our lunch. The food was really tasty, service friendly yet professional & the atmosphere really allowed you to feel safe in the warm bubble they've created. Kids are still talking about the onion rings & are have put it top of our list to re-book post lock down . We cannot wait to return too, next time without the kids & with a chance to enjoy a glass of wine!

Myself and a friend had dinner here friday night and while the service and food were good our experience on receiving our bill left us both with such a bad taste we won't be back.
We booked our table for 6.30pm and when we arrived we were handed a menu that contained an early bird menu which stated that this was available until 6.30pm - we both choose from this menu and were served the dish from this menu . When the bill arrived we had been charged for the same fish that was on the special on the board ( the only thing the same with both dishes was the fish ) When we queried why were charged this we were told it clearly states this menu is only available until 6.30pm and as our order was taken after 6.30pm it was not available ( despite the fact that we were served the fish from this menu). Our point on the night was we would have been happy to pay the extra cost for the fish special if we had received the fish special and if the dish was not available or was at a higher cost because it was after 6.30 the restaurant should be honest and open and let the customer know this when ordering. Unfortunately the manageresses inability to see the wrong in this did not help the situation ( she did give us what she called a neighbourhood discount) .
All in all a disappointing experience as we left feeling we had been ripped off

A charming space and food is certainly good, but not exactly worth the money—€9 for a very pretty sausage roll begging for some salt. The burger is tasty, and I liked that it wasn't overdone, but €17.50? Chicken is really good. Wine list is a bit fussy for a gastropub.
Service was lacking: the waiter was left to handle our whole room by himself. Unsurprisingly, he struggled. The next table gave up and served their own drinks at one point. He didn't notice.
For those wondering about Covid-19 and social distancing, they mostly do a good job; however, the hostess (presumably the manager) did hug a customer at one point—clearly a regular—then sit down at their table for a bit of a chat, eliminating the safe distance between them and their neighbours.
Overall we enjoyed our meal, but it was too pricey for a gastropub and the service would make us reluctant to return.

Had a meal here after the rugby. The food was nice but 60 euro for set menu was very expensive, the choice limited.
I had fish cakes, 2 small breaded potatoes i could hardly detect any fish. My steak was nice but i had to pay a 6 euro supplement, no vegetables. I had panna cotta with plum, no flavor in panna cotta.
Looked nice though.
I would not return to eat here.

Recommend to visit this gastro pub by a local family member and was very pleasantly surprised. It has been refreshed from the traditional pub it once was into the gastro pub format with suitable colours and style. Great menu and reasonable wine list although relatively expensive for some middle of the road wines. We only ordered some snack style foods but they were of a very high standard. The fries with mustard alioli and king prawns in a Pil Pil sauce were excellent. A great afternoon and early evening venue worth a trip out.

This was our second time to visit - the first was a while ago and we thought then it was special. Our second visit did not disappoint. The service was goo not too fast as if they needed the table back quickly nor not too slow as if they had forgotten you. The menu was interesting with some unusual dishes including sprouts whihc turned outto be delcious.

Waited over 90 minutes for a starter of four oysters and half a bowl of soup. No apology or explanation was offered, when we asked where our food was we were told there was a large table upstairs. I do not consider this an adequate excuse and again, no apology was offered. We were waiting another forty minutes for mains. During this time, at least four tables got up and left in anger without being fed. When the food arrived it was of poor quality snd enormously overpriced. My main was €26 for two matchbox sized pieces of cod sitting in a plate of butter. A side of potatoes was €5 extra. The staff were condescending and rude throughout. The Maitre d’ had the gall to joyfully ask our table if everything was great as he passed at one stage without waiting for a response. We weren’t offered any complementary drinks, coffee or dessert to mitigate the atrocious experience we had.
Even in the best case scenario this is a hugely overpriced meh gastropub with notions. Avoid like the plague.

We had a beautiful meal, our first out of lock down and the staff made sure that we were taken care of for the whole evening. The food was superb and our waiter recommended two perfect wines to pair with our meal. On what was a busy evening in the restaurant, service was always with a smile. We had duck bon bons, tuna tostadas to start, great flavourings and the venison and salmon for main. Another great evening and we look forward to coming back.

Went here last night for first night out after a long lockdown and it was a great choice. Some of us were a bit apprehensive about going out with all the restrictions but we were put completely at ease by the staff, especially our Slovakian waitress, Mariana I believe (apologies if I got that wrong) The food was fantastic, made even better with the wine recommended by our waitress. I love this place a will definitely be back over the Christmas.

Three couples had reservations for their well-known Sunday Roast. Of the six people only two thought the meal was good; personally, I thought my beef was stringy, the grilled vegetables over-cooked, and the Yorkshire pudding (ie, popover) was cold. The service was perfunctory; when I complained about the meal I only got a "sorry about that" kind of response. The bill was about 25 Euros each plus drinks, and a 12.5% service charge was added. This place is not recommended.

Unfortunately trip advisor only has 5 stars I think they should add more for this place only. The Old Spot is certainly Dublin’s best roast. Amazing hospitality, waiters, waitresses, bar team and kitchen staff. The Roast beef was perfectly cooked, gravy, Yorkshire pudding potatoes and the Cauliflower cheese were all mouth-wateringly delicious. Will certainly be back and will 100% recommend to anyone wanting great food in Ireland. Many thanks Jasper Levine x
Oh yeah and the fondant I have no words to describe it other than, breathtaking!

It’s very easy in this day an age for a restaurant to become complacent and get a roast completely wrong. The old spot we visited on Sunday is the antithesis of this. Their food is quite simply outstanding and their wine choice, selection of ales and perfectly kept Guiness makes this an absolute must for when you are in town.
Our waiter was superb at his job and knew the wine and food menu very well. We also had a very nice conversation with the manager who was equally lovely and provided some great Dublin suggestions for the rest our trip.
Yes this place isn’t on the temple bar high street and it might require a walk or taxi to visit, however it’s an absolute gem of what a pub should be striving towards to keep up with the other restaurant heavy weights in town, which I believe it easily surpasses.
Make sure you book and you won’t regret it.
