Many years ago when visiting Dublin we overheard a waiter recommending VCC as an exclusive hidden gem, his diners were suitably impressed and we vowed to visit at some point. Only disappointed that we left it so long.
When in Dublin between Christmas and New Year we managed to make a booking for food and drinks. What a fabulous place, situated in Crown Alley right in the heart of Temple Bar, opposite The Old Storehouse pub, the only evidence is a black door with the letters VCC on, ring the bell, wait to be attended to, climb the stairs and enter the cutest place ever.
Full of comfy chairs, chandeliers, opulent fabrics, you feel as if you have stumbled on to a 1920’s film set.
Our food was good, we ordered charcuterie and cheese boards, thankfully the waitress misheard us (or maybe she just knew best) and we received a full meat board with added cheese for a supplement of £11 as opposed to a full cheese board at £19. It really was plenty for two and very tasty. We returned a couple of nights later just for cocktails, again a fabulous experience.
The service was great, especially from the fabulous mixologist working on the 30/12, great craic and some good local recommendations. The decor and ambiance are stunning. Book in advance, the secret is out and it’s very popular. Highly recommended.

Booked the cocktail making masterclass for 7 people as part of a hen do weekend and it was amazing from start to finish. Rodge ran our class and was so knowledgable about all the drinks he was making/instructing us how to make and a good laugh too. We got a couple of the food platters between us and were so impressed with the quality of the food. It was definitely a 5 star experience and one of the highlights of our weekend in Dublin🍀

Such a cute hidden venue. We booked the same day then received a confirmation phone call. The door is not the easiest to find but that is all part of the charm.
You start by pressing the door bell on the door which is then answered by the staff who show you to your table.
The ambiance is beautiful with chilled music playing, candle lit tables and every little detail is perfect.
The waitress was incredibly knowledgable and guided us on which cocktails to try to meet our individual tastes. We had the cheese platter which tbh could have been bigger with a better selection of cheese but still it was very nice. The waitress was so attentive and the whole experience was just amazing.

Myself and my wife booked here for drinks and food to round off a great day in Dublin.
We confirmed attendence by email after we received an email from VCC the day before. I did think the additional follow up phonecall to us on the day of attendence was a bit overkill and basically informing us that there was a 20 minute grace period where our table would be held but lost if we were later then 20 minutes. We were also informed that we had to be over 23.
All in all the surroundings of the VCC were cosy and intimite and the staff were amazing and really accommodating.
The reason I only give the VCC 3 stars is as follows. We ordered the charcuterie board and cheeseboard initially and the waitress suggested that might be a lot for the size of the table and suggested perhaps order the charcuterie board and they would add some cheese to it.
This came out and it had 4 small triangles of one cheese and 2 small wedges of brie.
To my horror when the bill came we had been charged €11 for the small cheese addition. A full cheese board is €19???!
Unfortunately I only noticed this outside the restaurant and was kicking myself I didn't bring it up with management. I was too busy chatting. Another downside is the service charge of 10% is automatically on the bill. A bit cheeky. I understand if this is automatic for large groups.
But the main grudge I have is right after I payed the bill of €145.09 and still had half of our second bottle of wine to drink we were asked if we could vacate our table within 5 minutes!!!
This was at 9pm and most of the tables around us were empty.
We politely smiled at the waitress and pointed at our full glasses and bottle of wine and she walked away.
I enjoyed the night and the staff were lovely but I am angry about this bill etc in retrospect.
I feel like I want to call in and collect the rest of my cheese board.

Hi Ronan,
Thank you for the feedback, hopefully we can address some of your points below.
The mail you mentioned isn’t from VCC, this is from OpenTable asking you to confirm on their platform, on booking it is clearly stated that VCC will contact you on the day of your booking to confirm, this is pretty standard in most venues similar to our own.
We’re happy to hear our server opted to recommend the addition of Cheese to your Charcuterie as ordering both would have been too much for 2 people. We feel €11 is very reasonable for 6 pieces of cheese, the only difference on the actual cheeseboard for €19 is the Crackers and garnish.
During your time with us, our server would have approached you 30 minutes before your sitting was to end to offer you another drink so you have plenty of time to finish a drink should you choose to order one, we do this to avoid guests feeling rushed. At 21:00 was the end of your booking, the only time a table will be asked to vacate is if they have gone over the time and the table is needed back, as you mentioned there was multiple empty tables at this time, this is because all tables had already left for that sitting and you were the last, the next sitting on these tables is 21:15, hence why you were asked to vacate.
We’re happy to hear you enjoyed your time with us and look forward to welcoming you back soon,
Cheers,
VCC

Terrible unhelpful and unsympathetic staff. Booked for a hen weekend, called the restaurant to let them know we were running late - the lady on phone said she would call us near the end of the grace period and see what she could do. Two of our party then came ahead to secure the space and order drinks for the rest of the group. However were then told that there was nothing she could do - we had lost our booking and would be charged €10pp, despite the fact two of us were there and ready to order. Really poor communication and unhelpful attitude.
PS I’ve been before and the drinks take ages to come and the music is way too loud and it’s too dark to even talk to your friends anyway - so almost glad we didn’t get in!

Hi G3045H,
As I’ve explained to Laura below, I will leave the same reply for yourself.
We are honestly sorry your night ended up the way it did but with your review here I feel I must explain how this actually happened.
Your reservation for 14 guests was for 21:30. It’s worth noting that 14 guests is 2/3’s of a full floor in VCC. There was 1 other booking of 6 on that floor for that sitting.
We did receive your call and our host did say they will call you at the end of the 20 minutes grace, which they did. During this call you were then informed that the €140 deposit will be taken to cover the charge of us having no one on 7 tables for this period of time, you said it’s fine but you weren’t happy about it. Our hosts then kept the tables for a further 20 minutes for you but your party still never showed, at this point we could not leave 2/3’rds of a floor empty for any longer on a Friday night, the tables were given away to walk ins to try re coup the loss of sales for the 40 minutes the tables were empty. Following this 2 of your party arrived at 22:15, with the rest joining you at the door at 22:20, in total 50 minutes late for a 2 hour sitting, and 20 minutes before we call last orders.
We are genuinely sorry that this is the way things panned out for your hen party, but VCC or any venue that operates a reservation system simply can’t keep tables empty on the basis that a previous venue couldn’t get yous out on time.
The late or no arrival charge is standard in most venues, it’s not something we do often and not something we’re happy doing but on this occasion I’m afraid it was completely necessary, something we made you very aware of, asked you to inform your group about and something you agreed to on booking.
We honestly hope you enjoyed the rest of your evening.
Regards,
VCC

Left an honest review about our mediocre experience on another platform only to have the establishment write a completely fabricated public response that is unable to be refuted. I would not recommend a visit, nor will we be coming back and will continue to warn others to avoid. My husband and 2 adult children visited for drinks while on vacation, drinks were fine, light food ok. Service was slow and awkward, and we were told at the 1 hour point that we should wrap up soon because we only had the table for 2 hours. Not worth the price or wait, and frankly they should focus on improving the experience instead of making up fake responses to try to discredit their patrons. I fully expect another fabricated response to follow this review, probably cut and pasted from the one from the other platform- if so read that knowing it is made up. We arrived on time, stayed for under the time allotted, and experienced very slow service, both in ordering and receiving our drinks, despite what response may follow this. Again, not worth it and would not recommend. Plenty of other speakeasies in the area with better service and business practices that aren't shady.

VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!!! My bridesmaids had booked this place for cocktails for my hen party in Dublin. We called them at 9.00pm to tell them we might potentially be running late for a 9.30pm booking, due to food service being slow in another restaurant. The employee spoken to said that that was ok, thanked us for calling and that she would give us a call when it reaches our grace period to see how long we'd be, and see what she could do. So gave us the inclination that it would be ok. 2 of my friends rushed off from the meal to make the 10pm booking so we wouldn't be late and the rest of the party were due to follow 10 mins later. On arrival they were told they can't be let in as the whole party wasn't together (14 of us the booking was for), they'd even in that time given up half our table to someone else. We were prepared to order 14 cocktails whilst the rest of the party caught up. The management refused to let us in and it ruined my hen party night, and we lost the £140 deposit.

We had same experience as previous reviewer. Reservation was made a month in advance for a special dinner while in Dublin. I did receive an email offering me an earlier time (6:30) however we wouldn't have been back in time so we didn't take them up on the offer. We arrived on time for our reservation, my Open Table app showed my confirmed reservation which I showed the hostess - she promptly cancelled it and told us the whole reservation was cancelled. Crazy process, very disappointing evening as we had no where to go. We loved our time in Dublin and had so many great experiences, this was not one of them. Arrogant, unhelpful staff. Not sure why they bother with an online reservation system at all.

Hi citymuminthesuburbs,
Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately we’re a little disappointed in your words here.
As with ‘previous reviewer’ VCC tried to contact you on multiple occasions. None of these were answered. It’s not that you didn’t ‘take us up on the offer’ you simply just didn’t reply and presumed by turning up for the previous reservation made as you say a month in advance would still stand, our first attempt at contacting you was 9 days before you were due to arrive, along with others another 3 times on the day. You failed to answer any of our attempts so yes the reservation was canceled.
We do apologise if this caused disappointment on the night but there’s not a lot we can do when guests don’t answer when we try to contact you. This is clearly stated in the confirmation you receive on opentable.
We do hope you found somewhere to enjoy the rest of your evening,
VCC

Very unique place to go , amazing rang of food and cocktails. Staff fantastic but so VERY VERY disappointed with the amount of alcohol used, it was 1/2 a measure in the drinks and when your paying €15 a drink I want a full measure. Also some of the drinks were served with a huge block of ice which took up 60% of your glass. So for those reason I would not come back.

Hi Emma,
Thank you for sharing your experience here on Tripadvisor and over on Open table. Hopefully I can clear up a couple of the points you made.
Our drinks in VCC carry a minimum of 50ml of Base spirit, that’s just under 1.5 standard measures of alcohol, on top of that we add modifiers and enhancers, these are all alcohol based in the form of fruit or herbal Liqueurs so to say we use half measures is pretty much impossible.
On the ice, we use one piece of ice in Drinks that call for it, these Drinks tend to be mixed Drinks that are higher in liquid volume, Drinks that are sat over for some time, using one large piece of ice reduces melt versus smaller individual cubes resulting in a much more consistent drink on every sip from start to finish. This Ice by weight is almost identical to the weight of using multiple smaller cubes.
In saying this, there are multiple Drinks that are ice free, we’d love you to drop by again, if you do just chat to one of our staff and they will direct you to a Drink that you will enjoy,
Thanks again,
VCC

Quality cocktails and light fare. We had charcutery board with cheese and a number of rounds of quality cocktails. The menu is broken down into time frames and drink history and these were the best cocktails of our vacation by far. If you are a cocktail nerd this is a MUST do when in Dublin. Sit at the bar for great interaction - Reservations highly recomended - Easy to miss as the only markings is the "VCC" on the door

We were recommended VCC by a friend. It is a lovely, quirky place to have some drinks! We arrived just before 5pm, and fortunately we did as the entrance is part of the experience! The cocktail list is extensive and we enjoyed 5 different drinks. We had the table for two hours and all cocktails are priced at 12.95 each. We also tried some of the food and went for the assortment of small dishes. The food was nice but I would not say you would have a full meal from here and we both felt hungry later in the evening.

Waitress gave me 2 drinks as the first one was way off balance, I tried again with the second which was mediocre at best. Wanted to pay and after that I saw that the waitress added €3 as a tip to herself after I tapped my card. I emailed the office to get a refund once I explained what happened, 3 weeks later I’ve been ghosted with no reply/investigation. They take your money and don’t care. As someone who works hard for my money, I don’t appreciate people taking more than what I authorize. Spend your money elsewhere. Just gross treatment of people not in their own country and too trusting that people will do the right thing. Not the experience you need in Dublin!!

Hi Alexandria,
We’re disappointed to hear this.
Please note, it is impossible for any staff to add an extra charge to your card when the payment has already been made. Your bill is presented, you check it to see if it’s ok then you have to enter your PIN and process the payment.
To date I have not seen any correspondence regarding this or anything like it, if you want to follow up please mail us on book@vccdublin.com,
On the drinks, balance in Drinks is subjective to the person drinking it, if you ever find yourself not enjoying a Drink simply speak to a server and they will point you towards something more suitable to your taste.
We do hope you enjoyed the rest of your evening,
Cheers,
VCC

Together with friends living in Dublin, we spent a very pleasant afternoon in this small, but very quaint place. Starting from the entrance, an anonymous door, similar to that of a building like others in the Temple Bar area, to climb, through a staircase of other times, to the upper floor, where the actual room accommodates customers, in a room furnished with lamp lights at small round tables, like those of a living room in very vintage style and atmosphere. The food chosen from the menu was varied and good, presented with different cutting boards, as well as cocktails, chosen from many proposals offered by the barman. To be highly recommended.

Very disappointing, unfortunately. We were waiting for ten minutes for someone to open the door- we thought we were at the wrong place. Another 6 people were waiting outside. When eventually a quite impolite girl opened the door, we were sat at was clearly an enclosed terrace upstairs, not the pretty room shown on the online pictures. Ordered a cheese platter and got a round plate with literally 4 pieces of cheese and some crackers- for 18 euros. The cocktails were amazing, but the overall experience very dissapointing. I am sure there are better places out there to enjoy a nice cocktail.

Let’s start with the fact there is no sign at the front of the establishment, but we finally found the ‘entrance’ on the third time walking down the street…frustrating. I noticed a woman standing beside an open door and asked her if she knew where the Vintage Cocktail Club was, to which she replied “this is it.” We were led by a staff member up a very narrow staircase, which felt a bit dodgy. We were taken into this room, which smelt like damp and feet. We were seated in the corner and when I sat down, I sunk into a hole in the seat where the springs had given way, like an old dusty mattress. The ‘music’ was extremely quiet and there was zero ambiance, in fact it felt a bit creepy and unsettling. There was also a hole above my head in the ceiling and when water started to drip down onto my back from it, my partner and I decided to leave. We didn’t even stay for one drink, it was that bad…Now the many close up photos of the food and not of the establishment, make more sense. When I reviewed on the booking app ‘OpenTable,’ the business responded stating “you could’ve asked to be moved to a different floor, had you asked”…I think that is disgraceful service and a lie! When we did tell the staff that the seat was broken and there was a hole in the ceiling leaking water, the staff simply said “sorry…”
Can’t believe how unprofessional this so called business is. Poor all round.

Hi Rmatt,
We apologised in your last review. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to show you any of our service as you were literally in the venue for about 30 seconds. You were the first to arrive for this floor, you were shown to your seat and you left straight away. After reviewing CCTV you never spoke to any of our FOH staff or brought any of this to our attention so they didn't even get a chance to show or offer you another seat in the same room or another floor. We hope you enjoyed your evening elsewhere.
Apologies again.
