Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This establishment is very impressive : if Michelle Obama visited then it must have deserved it. I had a wonderful fish pie, my companions had lobster and fish and chips. There were small chips and sausages for the children. The service was great, it's a...very unassuming, down to earth place, very solid and decent, very clean.More

What a great pub. Know South Dublin well. I live in London now. But wish I Lived in Dalkey. This pub makes you feel welcome just as you come inside. Unpretentious, Down to earth and friendly. Thats the bar staff and the crowd that comes...here. Top spot for a drink. Loved it and will be back 😀😊More

Although the food was great, tasty and flavorful I still left with a slightly bad taste in my mouth due to the waitress making a rather loud and somewhat pointed comment to the table next to mine. I had just sat down and was looking...at the menu when the gentleman at the next table said something about Americans - nothing bad, just something about how we tend to tip and Europeans do not. The waitress then said... Well, I don't care for them myself. It was just odd and made me feel quite uncomfortable and unwanted. Maybe she was just having a bad day, but I know I'll skip Finnegan's when I am back in town. Shame, as the food IS quite good.More

As a regular to Lunch, what a deterioration in service. As always food is excellent and not too expensive but what has happened regarding customer service? Staff bordering on the hostile/aggressive. No attention to the customer, actually ignoring them. Shall be a long time if...ever I return. Other pubs and restaurants in Dalkey are much more customer attentive and friendly. Sad to see a good operation in freefall.More

We found service very slow and also unfriendly. Despite the place wasn't very busy we had to ask a weightless twice to clean the table. We ordered food and after 30 minutes we had to ask when food is going to be available. So, they...finally served, but somehow one of the dishes was forgotten, so one of us had to weight for another 10 minutes. We went to complaint to a manager but he seemed was not bothered, we did not even hear an apology. Finnegans seems is going downhill.More

I went with 3 friends for lunch on a Thursday. At 1pm the bar was busy but we managed to get a table. The very friendly waitress supplied menus and we all ordered different dishes. The seafood chowder looked and tasted amazing. The carrot and...coriander soup was delicious along with the wheaten bread. The Chicken parmentier was very tasty and quite substantial with salad and chips. I would definitely recommend a visit to this charming and very friendly pub. Excellent food and great atmosphere.More

Finnegan's pub in Dalkey is the kind of pub we ALL want to visit (and indeed Michelle Obama and her daughters enjoyed their visit in June 2013). Huge selection of drinks, excellent food (great fish pie), typical cosy pub interior, pavement tables and chairs.

This cute little pub offered us a perfect spot to grab some lunch. A little out of the way but absolutely worth the trip! A great family run business to support.

Traditional style pub with a nice lunch selection. Try the fresh fish, seafood cowder and desserts. Small menu but well cooked food. Friendly service.

My wife and I, who have had many good lunches in this friendly, family owned pub, feel we must share the pleasure we get from the service and fare we receive every time we walk through its door. Today we had the specials - Corned...beef for my wife and Ray wings fried in butter and finished with capers for me. Two fine simple meals cooked to perfection and presented with smile. They were followed by a ‘wicked’ Tiramasu that should have had a health warning it was so rich This pub gives of the best in a manner that charms and it does it every time. OK there are detractors but as the French say ‘Chacun a son gout’. Forget you fancy priced Fine Dining. Treat yourself to a pub lunch in this charming old fashioned establishment. You will not be disappointed.More

I love this pub and have been going for many years. I recently was in Finnegans Of Dalkey for a few drinks with some mates and I was sat at the bar counter for a few hours enjoying my evening pints. Picture this, the nice...wooden bar top with the normal view of the row of taps for beer, the shelves with spirits, the mixers, the glasses, the bucket of ice for gin and tonics etc and a bucket of ice for the chilling of the white wine bottles… ah, how nice….. . Scrub that. What I saw was the above however the white wine bottles, yes the probably not so clean ones out of the cardboard boxes, cellars, warehouses, etc, the ones that are handled by numerous staff members ( the good staff who handle card machines, cash, bins, dirty glasses etc ) are being left in the ice bucket that peoples gin and tonics etc ice is being sourced from. Can’t imagine this is best practices in one of the best bars on the southside.More

The title of the review says it all! Excellent food too. Ideal location as it is right near Dalkey train station. One downside was the staff were a little abrupt in the lir service, but other than that no complaints

The lunches we had were great as were the drinks...and people we met. Overall, a great experience and I would highly recommend that you pay this establishment a visit.More
