Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My family and I were visiting from the States as my wife is from Dublin. On each visit we go to Finnegan's where she grew up and we are always welcomed and have a great meal and drinks. It's a long time family owned pub and the family are always there working. Very nice setting and lots of seats and areas to eat. The Seafood Pie was terrific and my kids enjoyed their chicken strips and sausages. You will not go wrong and always have a great meal and time at Finnegans.

Had lunch today in Finnegan's of Dalkey. My wife had the poached hake which was very good, however, a touch of salt and a hint of garlic would have provided a flavor which was not present. An excellent presentation of a well portioned fish accompanied with vegetables which were beautiful but portion size was should i say small. I had the Scampi which is my normal selection and the portion size again was not what it was prior to COVID. The scampi was delicious cooked to perfection, however, the prawns were NOT king size. With the attention to these recommendations this establishment is one of the best and most reasonable priced places to eat good food in Dublin and beyond. Well worth a visit.

My wife and I, who have had many good lunches in this friendly, family owned pub, feel we must share the pleasure we get from the service and fare we receive every time we walk through its door. Today we had the specials - Corned beef for my wife and Ray wings fried in butter and finished with capers for me. Two fine simple meals cooked to perfection and presented with smile. They were followed by a ‘wicked’ Tiramasu that should have had a health warning it was so rich This pub gives of the best in a manner that charms and it does it every time. OK there are detractors but as the French say ‘Chacun a son gout’. Forget you fancy priced Fine Dining. Treat yourself to a pub lunch in this charming old fashioned establishment. You will not be disappointed.

I absolutely lovely this place for meeting friends and having a couple of drinks. Since Covid I have been twice, but I will wait until restrictions are lifted before going again. The food was very mediocre and it took an HOUR and A HALF to arrive after we had been seated. I appreciate this is a difficult adjustment, but other places have managed a lot better. Two of the three staff were visibly cranky when we were trying to order, while one was friendly and nearly made up for the others. I hope they address this as I would be very slow to return otherwise As another review said, SCAMPI was NOT ON today either. Not much point in having a reputation for something if you can't cater for your customers who want to try it!

I went with 3 friends for lunch on a Thursday. At 1pm the bar was busy but we managed to get a table. The very friendly waitress supplied menus and we all ordered different dishes. The seafood chowder looked and tasted amazing. The carrot and coriander soup was delicious along with the wheaten bread. The Chicken parmentier was very tasty and quite substantial with salad and chips. I would definitely recommend a visit to this charming and very friendly pub. Excellent food and great atmosphere.

I was starting a bus tour in Dublin. Being I am a Finnegan from NJ USA I looked up Finnegan on Google to see if one was near. Finnegan's of Dalkey was close. We ggot there after 4:00 PM the tables were full and when two gentelmen saw we just got there they gave us thier table. We asked for lunch menu and were told lunch ended at 3:30 so we ordered Guinness for me a Scotch for my son and water for my wife. When they came we asked if they had a hat for sale and I bought one.

We had a delicious lunch in Finnegan’s yesterday, sitting outside in the sunshine. My partner had fish and chips, cooked beautifully and I had the roast lamb which was very tasty. My only disappointment was no roast potatoes!!!!! Warm apple crumble with ice cream for dessert topped off a lovely lunch experience and our server was very sweet too.

Just reading a few recent reviews about the poor, almost hostile service from one of the waiting staff at Finnegans. We visited today for lunch and I can confirm that this is the case. The older lady server was very abrupt when we arrived to an almost empty pub for an early lunch. We were not allowed to sit in our chosen seat but she pointed to another and told to sit there. A number of people received the same treatment who arrived after us. It was actually entertaining to watch her as she went out of her way to show that she was the "boss". Why? The food was good, love the fish pie. The local characters enjoying themselves. The sun was shining and the village of Dalkey was at it's best.

Although the food was great, tasty and flavorful I still left with a slightly bad taste in my mouth due to the waitress making a rather loud and somewhat pointed comment to the table next to mine. I had just sat down and was looking at the menu when the gentleman at the next table said something about Americans - nothing bad, just something about how we tend to tip and Europeans do not. The waitress then said... Well, I don't care for them myself. It was just odd and made me feel quite uncomfortable and unwanted. Maybe she was just having a bad day, but I know I'll skip Finnegan's when I am back in town. Shame, as the food IS quite good.

Absolutely fantastic. Marian and Avril welcomed us with a warm smile and friendly conversation. We had fish and chips all over Dublin during our week there. We found Finnegan's just by taking the DART down from Dublin for a day trip and stumbled across Finnegan's by accident. Fish and Chips were the best we had in all of Dublin. Lightly coated and perfectly fried with perfectly made chips ( fries) This should be high on your list for a local place that is warm, inviting and serves delicious food without pretense. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Finnegans have a great write up and reputation and I am sure it’s generally justified . It was my first visit and went for lunch . I checked in advance the menu which had scampi and was delighted to travel to go to it. BUT there was no scampi ! No explanation given by an inexperienced attendant other than they didn’t have it . It was obvious it wasn’t due to numbers as they were very small number in the bar / restaurant . Disappointed . I will try again but I will phone up in advance . Writing the report I see they have crab sandwiches but we weren’t advised or they didn’t have them.

We had lunch in Finnegan’s Dalkey, Dublin. Lovely ambiance, v friendly staff with seating outside also in the sun. We loved our lunch. All cooked deliciously. Vegetables were flavoured and just right. Our fish was so fresh and cooked beautifully. We had a drink with it and happy with the price. Did not come away feeling ripped off. Will be back more often.

The title of the review says it all! Excellent food too. Ideal location as it is right near Dalkey train station. One downside was the staff were a little abrupt in the lir service, but other than that no complaints

My wife and me made this our afternoon stop every day before heading back to our rental property and had a great experience every time which speaks to the consistency and professionalism of the staff. The lunches we had were great as were the drinks and people we met. Overall, a great experience and I would highly recommend that you pay this establishment a visit.
