About
With a rich history starting as far back as 1859, the original building was a small local Schoolhouse whose walls have borne witness to a thousand stories including Dublin's Easter 1916. Each of the classrooms have been lovingly re-appointed, two of which now house the Award-Winning Restaurant at the Schoolhouse and the hugely popular Schoolhouse Bar. Under a team of dedicated designers and architects The Schoolhouse Hotel in Ballsbridge Dublin 4 opened its doors in 1998 to tremendous reviews from the public and the media. It has retained many of its original features. Its former classrooms now host the Award Winning Restaurant at the Schoolhouse and lively Schoolhouse Bar.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The place is lovely and the outside area is also cool. Staff were great. The tables inside are pretty close together (tables for 2) so no private conversation possible. Menu is quite limited but the food was quite tasty, so no complaints there. Desert portion...sizes are questionable but the selection is ok. Music on the night was what you'd expect in a pub. Overall not bad except that they are super overpriced and for that reason I don't think we'll be going back.More

Walked in for lunch today after visiting the ideal home exhibition. Place was empty inside but when I asked for a table for three, I was looked at as if I was mad. The waiter went off to find a table in this empty restaurant...and came back and escorted us to a tiny table under the stairs beside the toilets. I looked around at the lovely decor, and cushioned couches and thought why have we been seated here. The menu had a very poor over priced selection with no childrens section on it. Obviously don’t want to cater for kids. Isn’t it well for them. We waited approximately 15 mins and nobody even took our drinks order. Probably couldn’t see us under the stairs. We left.More

Had dinner here recently. Sat outside, I brought my coat & scarf as I expected to be freezing but I was so pleasantly surprised. The heaters were super, it was so warm and cosy while also feeling really safe. The food was amazing....as was the...wine. Staff were super. Look forward to going back soon.More

Lots of pluses for this new offering - friendly staff - beautiful outdoor seating area including a fab dome / pod - nice menu with something for all to choose from - server was v good with food allergies I had two starters and unfortunately...the ham hock terrine was too fatty for me. Salad with blue cheese was delicious. Overall would happily recommend.More

Food was really good. We ordered 3 starters. Chicken wings, Salmon and the crab and all 3 were fantastic. The waiter was really attentive and friendly. You could see how much it meant to the staff to be back working again. The Irish lady working...there was brilliant with the family beside us. She was joking with the grandad and kids. The tall Brazilian guy who served us too couldn't have been nicer. The food genuinely was quality and we'll be back again.More

I ate in the Dome with my family and had a wonderful experience! The food was gorgeous, the service exemplary and the uniqueness of the experience was really something else! Having the music set to our cheesy Christmas playlist and being warm and cosy while...the rain came down and hit the outside of the dome structure really elevated our meal to be a brilliant experience! What a way to catch up with Mom and Dad since before lockdown 2.0!! Definitely an experience I would recommend!!More

My friends and I dine in the new dome at the school house, everything was lovely, warm inside while being protected from the bad weather outside, you have the possibility to put your own music inside via a speaker that they provide. Really recommend.
