A cold, but dry, November mid-morning, on our way to The Irish National Gallery we chose to stop for late breakfast at Tangs. It was heaving, which for a small place is not difficult. "We can get you in, about 15 minutes, if you want...to wait at a table outside", said the helpful waiter. We did ordering coffees that arrived with heavily filled hot water bottles. Were they fill ups for the coffee, no, but they worked a treat buttoned up inside our coats, though we both looked 9 months gone. By the time the food was ready, a table had been vacated, well before the water bottle had cooled, or the waters had broken. The grub was fantastic, good value for the level and culinary skill that had been used. Scrambled eggs with imaginative nuts, chilli and who knows what else that raised eggs towards a heavenly level. My Shakshuka, a dish I have never encountered outside the Middle-East, except in my kitchen in the UK. was a triumph that would make the chefs of Beirut, Tel Aviv, Cairo etc squirm with jealousy. Well done Tang. Would we go back, indeed we would/did, the next and last morning of our trip to Dublin. We couldn't get enough, not the hot water bottles, the grub. And to answer my own question, extremely tangy. Big recommendation Any chance you can open in my neck of the woods?More
