I booked here a few days in advance for a Saturday night around 6pm. Initially, I tried booking by email but reverted back to the most direct route (phone) when I was awaiting a response to a question I posed when trying to book that was unanswered for days. On a Saturday, there is no early bird menu only an a la carte. Plenty of young friendly staff on duty and it is a relaxed service. Be prepared to wait a while: we didn't feel rushed. Our children (both aged under 5) ordered a marguerita pizza topped with Mozzarella at €8 to share and for afters 2× 2 scoops of icecreams with no chocolate sauce at €3.95 each. The adults shared spicy Prawns at €11.95. Very tasty but could have done with another sliver of bread to mop up the sauce. The non-driver savoured 2 glasses of merlot at €7.50 per glass. For mains, I ordered the seafood tagliatelle at €23.95: rich and full of a variety of fish. Overall very satisfying. My husband opted for the oven baked herb crusted salmon with rich creamy mash and vegetables at €24.95. He initially thought the portion was on the small side but was very contented by the end. We both skipped dessert given our excesses over Christmas and a satisfying meal. This restaurant is tardis-like: we were seated upstairs to the back in what I assumed was the family section (as there were lots of families with children) but there is a significant downstairs section and an upper more cosy atmospheric section overlooking the harbour: probably best enjoyed in daylight?

Local furnished marinara, really very large and spacious, but despite this we had to wait a long time, but it was worth it. We ordered fish, fish and chips and salmon pie and pizza, all very good, average prices. Nice waitress, To recommend.

Overall the food we had was good. My husband had fish and chips which was a sizeable portion and very fresh. I had the soup which was disappointing (it seemed like it wasn’t homemade) this was disappointing. Service was a tad a slow in terms of drinks coming by

Dear goldenbrown885,
Thank you and your daughter for both dining wtih us recently. Belated Birthday Wishes to you both. I am glad to her your daughter enjoyed her fish cakes. The Chicken of Eireann is a top selling dish , it is served with buttered cabbage, bacon & black pudding crumb, sundried tomato baby potato cake, normally this dish is served with chuncky chips as the side option but we would be happy to change this to roast vegetables should the customer require. Hoping you will get the opportunity to return again. Thank you for referencing our pleasent /welcoming Staff member.

We had a wonderful dinner with 14 friends and 3 teenagers. They prepared some fish and meat menus for us to choose from different brands of beer and various desserts, all quality coffee and they invited us to some shots. The treatment was very familiar and exquisite. We will return to Donegal to visit you. .

We arrived at 5 pm without a reservation. I understand both of those can be problematic. However the restaurant was empty. The hostess told us we had to eat fast because they had others who reserved tables. It might have been said as a matter of fact, but it was very rudely said. We waited a long time for a waitress and then ordered. The steak that I got was so tough to chew, I left almost all of it on the plate. It was not edible. We left after a reasonable amount of time for dinner and the restaurant was still empty. Just because they know that they get tourists who won’t be back, does not justify the worst meal I had in Ireland in my 4 months.

We visited her with family on 3 occasions in early August, between us we had 13 meals and it was all fantastic. Great credit to Angela and the team, all the team were very pleasant and helpful, despite the restaurant being very busy.
The menu was extensive and the food was excellent. Great value and spotlessly clean.
Well done and thank you, back soon.

A lovely, warm and cozy restaurant in the town centre of Co. Donegal. The staff are friendly and eager to provide you with anything you need. It has a large variety of meals and drinks to choose from and all of them are made with care and are of high quality. Definitely the place to enjoy a good meal if you are in the town centre.

Lovely, friendly, restaurant on our first visit to Donegal.
Fortunately, we made reservations, which was a good think as queues had formed at the entrance as we were seated by one of the welcoming, friendly, staff. I ordered the lovely seafood chowder, which was full of seafood pieces and very little if any vegetables, while my wife ordered some garlic bread. Both were really tasty and served freshly cooked. Clearly, we were in for some home cooking. Both us followed with the delicious oven-baked salmon - each of us receiving a handsome, tasty, piece together with mash, veg and white wine sauce. Oh, and the draught Guinness was great - of course.
We would have had dessert but the two courses we had finished us off.
Lots of great staff who know their menus, do their jobs so well, and process diners so efficiently but in a friendly manner.
Will we return? Absolutely.

16/08/2022 Dined here this evening and was really looking forward to a good meal. It took 50mins after asking for our starter to arrive.
I ordered the hake, when it arrived it was overcooked and mushy it was taken away to be replaced by another overcooked and mushy hake. The head waiter asked me how I wanted it cooked, translucent and flaky was my rely. According to him I'm the only one who has ever complained and the council or food authority doesn't permit fish to be cooked this way. The second hake was replaced with salmon cooked translucent and flaky 😳🙄. We asked for the bill and could see the waitress telling the waiter that we shouldn't be charged full price. When the head waiter arrive the waitress told him the same, however our bill was not reduced. We weren't looking for a free meal nor do we need one thankfully. However a small gesture would have gone a long way.
No issue with staff who were very attentive and lovely in what was an overbooked restaurant that was clearly under pressure
Would not recommend

Dear O2369ALkatem,
We take all of our reviews (complaints) seriously and we are very disappointed and saddened by this review. First of all the head waiter was me "the owner" I dealt with you as best as I possibly could. 35 years in the business and you tried to tell me that 2 perfectly cooked hake were over cooked when they were perfectly cooked. (photo evidence) You then asked for a salmon which you got and you were satisfied with this and you cleaned your plate. If there is one thing that annoys me in this business (is a complaint that is not genuine and this is one) I cannot stand good food going to loss in the starving world that we are living in today. After enjoying your salmon and sending both hake's back at the cost of €67 for 1 person , you still expected a deduction on your bill. I take pride as the owner in pleasing my customers with good food and drink and only give a deduction if someone is not happy with their meal. (salmon clean plate) If this review is not removed within 48 hours , I will be posting the photo evidence on social media. If you want to contact us directly please email us - theharbour1993@gmail.com Thank you very much for dining with us.

A return visit after fond memories of our first visit 8 years ago.
Starters were nice - crispy mushrooms with garlic mayo & spiced king prawns.
Main courses were dissappointing:
1. chicken of eirann was tasty, but not as advertised - no fries, no buttered cabbage and the sun dried tomato in the potato cake was hard to spot.
2. Irish American Steak was ordered as medium rare but arrived medium - a shame.
Service was hit and miss

We had a family function at the Harbour last night. It was just fabulous from start to finish. Angela could not have done enough for us despite having a full restaurant. There was so much to choose from on the menu and the food was served piping hot and everyone’s dish was mouthwatering. All the staff were so efficient, friendly and again couldn’t do enough to ensure we had a great dining experience. Well done to all the team at the Harbour.

My wife and I and our traveling companions selected this excellent Quay area Restaurant for our evening meal. The fish and chips, potato leek soup and fried mushrooms were prepared to perfection, tastefully presented and reasonably priced.
We are eagerly anticipating a return visit!

Food was basic, had a ‘king prawn’ starter it was frozen shrimp tho priced for fresh king prawn. Even though I complained to the staff about the quality nothing was nor was an apology offered. Based on this experience we won’t be returning.

Dear Heather N,
Thank you for your review. We are very disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy your "Spiced King Prawns
tossed in pressed garlic & chilli oils with stir fried vegetables". We pride ourselves in providing all our customers with high standard of food. You will see from pervious reviews these are a very popular appetizer and we serve good quality foods. I have checked in the supervisor's diary were all queries/complaints are logged and should yours have been there I would of certainly been in touch straight away.
We take all these matters very seriously . Please fell free to contact me at any stage . Paul Kennedy

There is no possible way this should be the highest rated restaurant in Donegal Town. In fact, as far as our experiences in Donegal’s restaurant, it is the worst.
Everything from the food to the service was terrible. Our pizza tasted like the cheap, pre-frozen type you would get at Chuck E. Cheese, our order of mussels were covered in Alfredo sauce and half the mussels were still closed, the roast beef looked and tasted like something you would get from a TV dinner.
As far as the service, all the waitstaff were kids, and their inexperience showed. The timing of ordering the drinks, food, and getting our ordered was long and overly drawn out.
Overall, this place should be a HARD PASS for anyone looking to eat in Donegal Town.
