Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have visited this tavern several times on holiday. The staff are very helpful, efficient and cheerful. The food is always enjoyed by everyone in our party and, contrary to another review, the drink prices are the same as anywhere else in Donegal.

This place is a hidden gem. The food is excellent and the burgers are great. Beautiful meat with perfect bread:cheese:meat ratio. Chowder is also fab and helpings are very generous! Fish and chips also cracking. We sat on the decking - there are few places...better when the sun makes an occasional appearance. The cherry on the cake is a pint of possibly the best beer in the world, Kinnegar's Scraggy bay. James, Rose, and the team, you are running a top notch pub and long may it continue.More

We stayed at the lighthouse for a week and made several trips to the Lighthouse Tavern, for a drink and ate there 3 or 4 times as well. Friendliest staff ever: Rose, Suzannah, James - thank you for being so welcoming. Very nice fish &...chips, and chowder.More

A great spot to stop and take in the view. This place has definitely embraced the tourist attraction value. As it appears to be camper van friendly. Plus the light house is open to the public

We stopped for a late lunch after visiting the amazing Fanad Head lighthouse. The tavern is amazingly cute with great food (you need to try the excellent seaweed bread). Most of all, the people who run it were warm, friendly and welcoming. A real jewel.

Exactly what you want from a rural Irish pub. Deliciously fresh fish, chowder and fish and chips exceptional. Service with a smile, wonderful character. Most importantly, great Guinness!! Sometimes you feel like your paying for the experience of eating beside a big attraction - not...the case here, simply excellent food! Enjoy!More

We visited the Lighthouse Tavern for lunch while we were staying in the area. It is about 1km from Fanad lighthouse & overlooks Lough Swilly. The food was excellent & the service was very friendly & helpful. Various meals were ordered & all were delicious....I had a large bowl of chowder with bread & it was very very good. Well worth the visit for this on its own!!More

We booked during the outdoor dining restrictions due to Covid. It was a cool, wet evening but the tavern had erected a gazebo to keep any rain away. The welcome was warm and nothing was a problem. The starter, sweet potato and roasted bell pepper...soup was welcomingly hot along with freshly baked (on the premises) bread. We had the fish and chips with the home made batter and mushy peas, my sons goujons and chips and a sausage bap and chips. The fish and chips were lovely the batter light enough to leave the taste of the fish and I heard no complaints from my sons. The apple crumbles with real cream and some had ice cream, one serving of crepe with ice cream were gorgeous. Our dog Bowie was more than spoiled with water and some doggy treats. Thank you for a lovely evening and we hope you get back to being allowed normal inside service soon.More

We really enjoyed our visit here on the 24 August. The Covid-19 measures are excellent and we felt perfectly safe in this lovely setting. We were warmly greeted and looked after by a lovely lady who was really helpful and we experienced excellent customer service...throughout the visit. The food was very good and the crepes were a big hit with the kids! This is a lovely place with great staff and we look forward to a return visit someday.More

Sorry but at these times when restrictions are in place it is totally unacceptable that the server had no mask/face shield on!. Too dear for the food they provide. Curry from a tin, frozen chips, carbonara was a plate of linguine with 10 small pieces...of bacon and onion with a very poor sauce. If it’s fast food you like then your in luck.....More

Times are different now and you can't just wander in and have a pint. You have to prebook your slot for a pint and food. It must be 9 Euro at least. So some chickenwings for example and some fries. It is a good idea...anyway to line your tummy for the pints or whatever. The same friendly service is there and it is good to see. When you get your food why not have it " Al Fresco" on the deck outside. This deck offers views of Fanad Lighthouse Georgous.More

Very friendly and welcoming. Tried my husband’s chowder and wished I’d ordered it but the Haddock chips and peas were perfect. Busy day with lots of cyclists and the staff while busy had a smile on their faces throughout. I wish them every success especially...during Covid.More
