After a very long absence I returned for lunch at Market Lane, on Saturday, it was joyous! To see happy faces of both staff (quite rightly masked up) and other diners, all happy to be there, enjoying good company and super food! Loved the way...we were welcomed outside , then taken to our table, this showed us how Market Lane staff were as pleased to see and have us there as we were! Market Lane offers a great dining experience. The food is fresh, much of it from the nearby English Market. Despite Covid restrictions, there was a good buzz about the place and the hardworking staff were helpful and in great humour. The menu is varied but...we particularly enjoyed the fish dishes. A busy restaurant with a great atmosphere. We had prebooked for indoor dining, tables well spaced and all covid restrictions in place. We had pate and crab tart followed by the hake and short rib. Desserts were just too tempting so we had the brownie...and bread and butter pudding. The wine was also good with a varied choice. Food was delicious, generous portions and reasonably priced. Went here for dinner with a friend. We arrived slightly early and they were happy to seat us right away. Staff were lovely. Menu was nice with good variation. Ordered the chilli which was absolutely delicious!! Atmosphere was great and we were allowed to chat...for ages after our meal. Good distancing between tables. Really enjoyed the evening. I ordered from a separate gluten free menu that said “Coeliac Friendly” as I have coeliac disease. Both menus seem to have the same items with slight differences and I was given the normal menu version with gluten. I didn’t realise this until after I...left when I was very sick for the night. The food was otherwise very nice and so were the staff but I paid a lot for the meal so it was disappointing that the kitchen wasn’t informed that my order was supposed to be gluten free.More
