We were in Cork for a night and said we'd chance getting into ML as walk ins... lucky enough, we got seated upstairs despite a big crowd present... tbh, I preferred it upstairs as it's less noisy, nicely laid out and toilets are conveniently nearby!
The menu was straightforward and not over elaborate with very good choices and is priced above average imo but portion size is very good and the Pork Wellington was something I never had before and was worth what we paid. Service was friendly and was paced well
One thing that bugs me (and has been a growing trend in restaurants) is paying for any side dish of veg etc, ML do it too but it is what it is, it makes the menu look cheaper than it is, I dont think you should be paying €3-4 for a few chips or mash on a €20 dish but that's my bug bear!
We didn't have starters and I'm glad we didn't as the main courses were plenty in themselves.
ML has Elbow Lane beers on the drinks menu and they were excellent, also a nice selection of wines.
Overall, we were pleasantly surprised - good location, very nice decor, great staff and very good food. We'd go again!

This was really good value for a three course meal with coffee. Tap water was automatically brought to the table and reasonably priced local beers were readily available.
Starters were not only tasty but tended to be sizable portions. There was a good range of main courses, each coming with interesting selections of vegetables. My roast chicken for example, came with sweet potatoes and a mushroom risotto.
Desserts sensibly were of mamageable proportions, but nevertheless very tasty.

Lovely restaurant inside. The server we had was polite but not very personable. The French onion soup was AMAZING
We had the chicken and mixed veggies as well as the hake for mains. Chicken and veg was good but the hake not so much. The hake itself was nice but everything it was served with overpowered the taste of the fish rather than complementing it. Ended up having to eat the fish by itself then go for the rest.

For a restaurant I adore, today was an eye opener. Popped in for a quick late lunch and was really looking forward to it... reality bites unfortunately. Ordered the ham hock, and whilst the ham was stunning, the mash was cold... I mentioned this to the waitress who immediately removed the plate and left my partner with her salad. My meal was returned about 10 minutes later, with the ham having been trimmed and reused from my previous plate and my partner had finished eating. I at least expected the plate to have been prepared entirely freshly, not reusing parts of the initial dish... and to be fair they should have offered to take my partners dish so we could have eaten our meal together. Such a pity to have a poor experience in what used to be one of corks best eateries.

I came here with a group of friends for dinner. This restaurant is extremely overpriced and people only come here to be seen to be here. One of the girls at our table ordered extra carrots and they literally brought the carrots in one of those small white holders that most restaurants usually serve ketchup and mayonnaise in. They had the audacity to charge her for this. The portions weren't that big and we actually left hungry we ended up going to the Fish Wife to get a bag of chips because we were still hungry. I definitely won't be returning..

Really enjoyed our dinner here. The early bird was excellent value at €27 for 3 courses with plenty of choices to keep the vegans in the party happy. A very buzzy atmosphere, great staff and excellent beers from their own microbrewery made for an excellent night out. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Went to this restaurant based on reviews and how busy it was, ordered only from the dairy free and vegan menus and was really disappointed. Food was tasteless with no seasoning, it was very disappointing especially after the wait of over an hour for a table. I imagine the standard menu is a different story but if you’re going to cater to all you should deliver. Such a shame as the ambience and staff were great.

Always book Market Lane when visiting Cork. Just returned from two night trip and we ate here both nights. The food is exceptional, beautiful atmosphere and very good staff who know what they are doing and completely focused on the clientele.. Everything on the menu is beautiful and extremely reasonably priced for the quality and service. Really good food with very subtle touches that make everything extra special. If you know you want to eat here, book early, as it’s not easy get in at the last minute. Hotel receptionist offered to assist with booking for dinner......when I told her where we were going, she politely replied ‘ you don’t need my help, you’ve picked the best’. Speaks for itself I think!

Had the French Onion Soup which was very Sweet in taste.
The Sirloin Steak was excellent however the sides of mushroom and onion were very greasy and a little tasteless.
Fries were cold and when sent back and replaced were just about warm and quite greasy.
Wine Prices are akin to London high street or a 5 star resort.
Lovely staff but overall underwhelming.

Came here with my wife while in Cork City. Decided to have lunch here and the experience was really good. Loved the decor and menu items. There were a number of dishes that catered for my wife who is vegan.
I loved the winter-styled cocktails. Had a warm apple cider and cinnamon cocktail (cannot remember the exact name) that was served in a copper mug!
Had a really good reuben sandwich which was tasty!
Was also quite impressed with the selection of desserts!
Will definitely return here in the near future!

Simply superb food, paired with great service from extremely friendly and knowledgeably staff, all regulations adhered to without fuss. Little chocolate pots with candles for our birthdays, unprompted as they overheard, was a lovely and much appreciated touch. We'll be back!

Wow! From the second we walked in at lunchtime on a Saturday we were welcomed warmly and sat despite not booking but informed politely that they needed the table back by 13h30 so no rush.
All staff were super friendly and full of joy at work with a funny comment for all and left you with a bouyant feeling.
Had sour dough smoked chicken sandwich that could have had a little more chicken in but was lovely as was slaw and sis had the flafel flatbread dish which was also lovely.
Top tip - get a chic shot dessert and use spoon to finish cappuccino foam 🙄😃
Well done on great decor, fab location, lovely food and smashing staff...I would be proud to have such a team working for me.

Very disappointing experience. Booked for wife’s 40th with all the family and requested a simple candle with desert. Again reminded them of this when entering. All kids left disappointed when staff forgot. Moment spoiled. As for the food on the whole it was ok but nowhere near worth €140 for 2 adults and 3 kids. We had no starters and just a couple of drinks for each adult. Kids had a coke. Sweet potato fries were undercooked and soggy and the accompanying sauce which costs an extra €6 is too bitter to go with them. Waitress at the table was really nice and helpful just shame about the overall evening.

We recently visited here for lunch. Online it looked lovely , nice menu and online it stated vegan, dairy free and coeliac menus available.
As there is a vegan in our family , we decided to try Market Lane. We had been looking to go there the evening before also. As we arrived we were excited, the building looks lovely , really clean inside and staff are friendly and welcoming.seating was available inside and outside . We choose inside. We got our menu and it had two vegan options on it so we asked for the vegan menu , and they arrived with the dairy free menu . (Which is obv dairy free but the dishes contain meat ) the options on the main menu are the same as the dairy free menu so it is a bit misleading that online it says vegan menu available . He ordered the house flatbread which was delicious . We also ordered a kids shepherds pie , after the first spoon she said she didn't like it . Typical. I did try it and it did seem like it was made with spaghetti Bolognese sauce and did taste quite salty. Maybe that's how it is normally made there but we weren't a fan. She ended up having some sweet potato and coconut soup and sourdough bread. Which was delicious. The kids dessert was a hit also.

We had a post lockdown late lunch booked on Sunday. We were slightly concerned the new safety requirements may dampen the usually vibrant atmosphere. We need not have worried. The atmosphere was fantastic as always. The cleanliness and care of the staff was impeccable and carried out with subtle efficiency.
The menu was as varied as usual and everyone was catered for more than adequately.
Highlights:
The Aloo Tika was a wonderful starter.
The new Buffalo cauliflower, Szechuan sweet potatoes, roasted onions and chickpeas, dukkah and tahin was amazing!
The Ham Hock was superbly tasty and well presented.
The service was excellent. The management and staff are so friendly always.
Top Class!
