I will say that I haven't tried too many fish & chips in Cork yet only three places before this one where the Clayton Hotel had the best tasting out of those three but The Fish Wife definitely holds the first place for me. Had...the cod with chips and the cod was so tasty. Usually the fish in fish and chips can be under-seasoned and dry but this was neither and the portion was large too. For €11.50 this was well worth and the remoulade sauce was great too. Only negative I can think of is that they don't have seating there, at least not now during Covid so you have to plan for a place to eat but they did offer cutlery but I live close by so didn't need it.More

Got the Fish Wife tonight for a change. I have to say we were impressed. My parents had a fish supper and I had curry chips and onion rings. The both of them said the fish was lovely so were the chips. We were dissapointed...in the onion rings, they could definately be better but overall a very tasty dinner.More

Firstly let me say that the only reason I awarded any star at all was that I needed to so as to submit a review. 1 star is "Terrible" it was far worst than that. i and my partner fancied something a bit better than...chipper food in this endless lock down and haven purchased food from the Grand Parade version of this cafe previously, I was more than a little looking forward to it. Big mistake there is not a chipper in Cork I could have chosen which would have presented me with worse food. I purposely asked the young lady at the counter whether the scampi was made in house or bought in ? she assured me it was made in house ! she lied, it was the cheapest of processed crap with a thick battered crumb containing minimal filling which I would suggest was at best a very distant relation of a prawn. To compound matters I also unwisely ordered onion rings, which made the scampi look posh. To say they were cheap and processed is an understatement, and at € 4 a portion were exorbitantly overpriced. Both meals, which by comparison to similar fare anywhere else were expensive, sat heavy on the stomach resulting in us both feeling quiet unwell for a good period of time after relegating most of the food to the bin. I would suggest the cooking oil was stale and possibly under temperature, resulting in greasy, stodgy and down right unpleasant food. The tartar sauce was straight out of a cheap jar, worse that the cheapest satchel of processed muck you have ever gotten in the worst cafe you have ever eaten in. Being in business myself, I do not lightly berate any other enterprise trying to make a living, and I further acknowledge that all reviews are down to personal opinion. However, I can only strongly, strongly suggest that this establishment is not, only not good for your pocket, but that it also certainly was not good for our digestive systems. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.More

Oil had turned rancid, the chips were awful and I got Haddock & not Cod! Standards have dropped! Not feeling the best today from the food. I did go back to tell them afterwards and was offered more chips which I didn't take.

Every other time we were there, we loved the fish and chips, being impressed at how they freshly batter before cooking and the chips were absolutely fab. However, this was not our experience on this occasion. Chips very average and batter not so good. Sorry.

The food! Just wow. I had the fish and chips and my husband had a burger and chips. The portions are huge which only matters when it’s worth eating which the food is. We were in the grand parade branch. The waiter was lovely ....We were not huge fans of the decor and table set up but to be honest once we tasted the food we didn’t care. Restaurant is a little cold though. We would however definitely come back m. Yum!!More

Popped in late Saturday night and we tried the popcorn fish and chips whilst friends had a standard cod and chips. Nice small place, and the food was brilliant - cooked to order so you know it is fresh and not been sitting around. The...popcorn cod pieces were massive and were value for money. Tasted superb too!More
