Ordered the madras curry, a side of fries and the sticky toffee pudding. Collected the food, brought it home and was disappointed to find there was no curry included. They gave us two portions of rice instead in error. Was given the option of returning...for the correct order or a refund for just the curry. Took the refund as I'd no interest in journeying back. Ended up with chips and rice for valentines, not ideal. No fresh cream either with the sticky toffee pudding, as they had advertised. Very disappointing.More

The restaurant is really nice and it was great to meet there for a Christmas dinner. I do appreciate how the restaurant is ensuring safety during challenging Covid times. Food was very nice, but the waiting time really impacted our visit. We received our mains...more than 1.5h since arrival. We were quite hungry waiting. We needed to ask twice for a side plate before we got it. It would be a lot better experience with better organization.More

The review is not only because of the lovely meal we had this afternoon but because of the girl who served us. She was just so lovely, friendly and attentive without being on top of us and I just thought she deserved a mention. Her...name was Megan. Her great service just added to the lovely experience we had, the food was also fab, aswell as the relaxed cosy atmosphere. The christmas lights outside are beautiful too. All in all a lovely evening. Thank you to Megan and all at the Elm Tree.More

Elm tree looks stunning in December, inside and outside Christmas decorations are beautiful. Meal ( tournafulla black pudding-tournafulla black pudding salad with sauteed potatoes, caramelised apple, lardons, cherry tomatoes a honey and a mustard dressing & cajun spiced chicken wings in a hot louisiana sauce)...and desserts: vanilla ice cream sundae, mango and passion fruit compote wafer biscuit & Christmas pudding cheesecake) was delicious but for special request from Birthday boy - BIG thank you for an excellent customer service. We were served by Galvin, very pleasant, helpful, professional and nice person. We’ll be back soon!More

We reserved a table for 8 pm, which is a little later than our normal dining out time and appeared to be the last siting in the restaurant, however on arrival we were promptly met and shown to our table. I have read some reviews...regarding Covid 19 compliance of the restaurant, however I didn't observe any issue. Whilst our table was sited close to another, a portable screen was placed between the tables to aid with compliance. I have stated in many reviews my opinion that good service can embellish average food, however even with superb food, bad service can be the lingering memory. Our meal was not without a few issues however excellent customer service saved the day. We were served by a number of very pleasant young people, all of who were was friendly, professional and attentive without in anyway being obtrusive, however Slyvia is certainly worthy of special mention. I have read some other reviews which reportedly had issues with the service time, however we were served with impressive efficiency. I started with the Chicken Liver Pate, served with a very complementing mango chutney as well as the usual cranberry jelly. I thought it to be a superbly balanced and flavorsome dish which ate every bit as good as it looked. My partner commenced with Prawn Pil Pil which she thought was a little under seasoned and a little short on garlic for her palate, however she still found the dish to be very pleasant. For mains my partner ordered the Madras Curry which she very much enjoyed and felt the dish grew in flavor as it was being eaten. I for main broke one of the two main rules of restaurant dinning. 1. Never order shell fish in a land locked county. 2. Never order slow cooked or roast anything at a late sitting - it makes sense that it cannot be cooked to order and therefore requires to be pre-cooked prior to being kept hot or reheated, both options to the detriment of the dish. I possibly unwisely for late dinning opted for the 1/2 roast duckling. As a general comment the dish was served with a potato rosti which I found to be very strange in both taste and texture. The potato was very very finely grated and thereafter appears to have been baked in a mold, resulting in it being more akin to a potato fondant than a rosti. ? which was a loss to the dish as a whole as it would have texturally greatly benefited from a traditional rosti in my humble opinion. My duck arrived as two separate portions of duck, rather than a singular 1/2 duckling as listed on the menu (both portions were I believe to be legs) however the main issue was that the duck was very dry for my palate and whilst I acknowledge that it must be extremely difficult to cater for every palate, I do contend that the duck was overdone and dry mainly due I assume as a result of being reheated or kept hot late into the evening. Furthermore if I was to be ultra critical the dish was served with a dark cherry and port sauce on a black plate which again in my humble opinion detracted greatly from the visual aspect of such. All that said, as soon as I brought the issue to the attention of Slyvia, it was promptly and seamlessly dealt with without fuss or bother. In conclusion, all things considered we cannot say that we didn't enjoyed our dining experience, it must also be stated that the ambiance was comfortable and pleasant, the food in the main was well developed, attractively presented and flavorsome, whilst the service was top class. The dishes in general were well balanced and therefore I most certainly will be a returning customer, albeit next time opting for a meal more appropriately to the dining time.More

There are a great choice of main dishes to choose from and the service and friendliness was outstanding. When it came to the dessert menu we were spoiled for choice but they were delicious.

We had a meal on 6/10/20 We ordered garlic bread and wings, my garlic bread was rock hard, so I called the guy and showed him, he said he get it straight back to me, My husband had finished his wings drinks were empty no...one to call to get drinks then about 10 mins after he finished a girl came over and asked was everything ok with starters I told her I was still waiting..... she went to check and then about a total of 20 mins in total since I sent it back they came over with new garlic bread, and I was told they burnt the second lot and this was the third time they did it. We always eat hear but this was ridiculous it was impossible to get anyone’s attention and the bar was full of drinks that were not being brought down. Normally service is great here but my anniversary meal was crap! The only thing the brought down fast was the bill.More

Popped in for lunch and was lucky to get a table in what was a very busy restaurant. Food and service was excellent as always HOWEVER COVID guidelines were out the window! When I entered someone was eating at the bar and from what I...could see a few people were left to wait for tables at the bar. Tables were way way more than 6. One round table I saw had 9 adults at one table and another table beside which was solely children. Children came and went at will during the course of their meal. Another table did have 5 adults at each table but gap between them was minimal and when the party left the tables were pushed back out by staff to 2m distance again! Another table to right of the bar had at leat 12 seated around it. I was very saddened to see such blatant lack of following the guidelines! Staff all had visors which offer little to no protection. Not one staff member had a mask on and when I went to the bathroom I was the only person in there with a mask on. I want our local businesses to survive this pandemic but we NEED to follow the guidelines! Management here needs to up their game in their interpretation of these guidelines.More

From an American perspective I would call it a restaurant with two bars, not a pub. Pubs are more casual. The table settings are much nicer than a pub.
