Chieftan is my favourite and I was so looking forward to my visit, I arrived at 6PM to take the tour but was told it only takes place two days a week, so I found a cosy snug to savour my pint of Chieftan...bliss. Only...downside was the atrocious piped music that could only be loved by teenage girls with no taste whatsoever, a really bizzarre choice for an adult brew pub.More
It was my birthday and thanks to the management I had a really bad day. 4 days ago we booked two tables and no one told me that we had to leave after 1:30 hour after our booking. I was shocked when the manager came...to me and she told me to leave the the table. please be aware that the management is really unprofessional.More
1 star. used to love this bar but the the new manager is so rude, she’s has no manners and made us all feel uncomfortable, she has short brunette hair and is probably late 30s- late 40s. It was so so hard to even get...a drink to our table and when we did order the staff were literally sighing and we were not the only table experiencing this. Plus mayonnaise for the pizza was 2.50€? Dirty robbers and it wasn’t even nice mayonnaise. Used to be a good bar but it’s gone to the dogsMore
The beer is great and the service was the best we've received in Cork, possibly the whole of Ireland. The ambience and crowd is great and the pizza they make available was both delicious and reasonably priced. Well worth the trip.
I've been going to the Franciscan for years. But will never be going back again. The staff tried to charge me twice for the same bill. After paying the bill a super aggressive member of staff demanded that we pay it again and insisted that...we didn't pay at all. It was very easy to prove that the bill was paid but the staff were not interested. AKA it looked like they were trying to rip us off.
After this over-the-top aggression another member of staff popped over to our table and tried to start and argument with another member of our party. He was promptly told where to go and walked away.
Upon leaving the bar I approached the staff to try and sort the issue out but was met with even more aggression and no interest at all. They just called the door men and at that we just left...
Advice to all stay away from this place it is being run by people who have no idea how to do customer service or even run a bar. It’s gone downhill BIG TIME. I can understand its hard-to-get good bar staff and bar managers at the moment, but they are really scraping the bottom of the barrel.More
We went on a Friday night and hasn't booked so we were lucky to get in. Many after us didnt. We are two fifty something holiday peeps. So let's be honest this place was a bit cool for us, very young, trendy and fun. The pizza...was amazing but they don't tell you when you are seated you have to go out to garden to order. However totally wonderful pizza I wish I lived closer I would go every night.
Drinks good and lots of choice.it is loud but despite that and despite being full service was good. I really enjoyed it wanted to book brewery tour but it was full
We loved this place and we both agreed even after eating in some serious restaurants this was the best night we had in Cork.More
I decided I would call in after work and hopefully talk to someone about my request at 5.30 this evening. I was hoping to book 3 tables of 6 people sitting separately with 2 months notice, however after discussing with the 2 staff on duty...I was met with nothing but resistance.
I had requested booking the tables for food and drinks and they informed me I can't book in 3 tables as those bookings have to go through an email which was strange to hear because I have called in multiple times and booked tables.
I had then said at that stage there were (hopefully) no restrictions and surely I can book in the 3 tables as requested.. Staff proceeded to check the diary and literally tapped the mouse on the computer and said NO sorry you'll have to email in still.
After this the front of house team wrote down an email to send in requests and this email request was rejected.
I am frustrated as I have never had a bad experience in fran well and from my conversation with the team on the front of house was extremely poor. It seemed they were doing everything to push you out the door.
Overall very poor experience. We have have staff occasions in the fran well and always had a good experience. On this occasion a zero.More
I won’t rate the pizza here as that is a separate company, but considering that is the reason a lot visit here it prob is worth a mention that after two disappointing meals here I wouldn’t be returning for that.
Like other reviewers I have...found that the service is quite hit and miss. Yes it’s difficult to get staff at the moment but they still have to be trained. When it’s table service only, it’s not okay to have your time limited and be left sitting with empty glasses on the table. Being asked to leave after two hours when the place is half empty is just bad management in my opinion, I don’t know how much business they expect to get when the extensive roadworks outside makes the place look shut down. My main issue however is the fact that the beer garden (where everyone sits) is now entirely a smoking area. It’s been a long time since I left a pub stinking of cigarettes and I was not one bit nostalgic for that! I couldn’t believe it when an entire table lit up next to me, it was swiftly followed by many others. For that reason alone I won’t be going back, which is a great shame as the beers are great and it was enticingly close to work for after-work drinks on a Friday eve.More
