My friend and I have been well served here over the course of the pandemic but at no time did the quality of the food or service dip during those months. Quite the contrary, and the fish and chips served with salad is really, really good. Or rather as per the menu “Chish & Fips”. Outstanding. So again today, 22/10, and the service by Gillian and her team as ever was top notch. We will return again, and again

My wife and I just returned from a 2 week vacation self-touring southern Ireland, which included a 2 night stay at the Blarney Castle Hotel. The hotel was another excellent stop on our trip. It is located about 20 minutes outside of Cork, in a small and quiet community. The hotel is right across the road from Blarney Castle and Gardens (the Blarney stone) which is super convenient if you plan on spending any time on the castle grounds.
Rooms were very clean and comfortable. As was with our first hotel stay in Ireland, our hosts here were incredible. The onsite breakfast included in the stay was fantastic. The owners host a private guest restaurant where they provided an excellent choice of food and the service was outstanding. The owner took time to talk to us every morning, and we especially appreciated the advice we received about the surrounding local area.
If you are looking for souvenirs, wait until you get to Blarney. The Blarney Woolen Mills is located right around the block from the hotel, and was by far the best store for prices and selection of clothing, jewelry, shot glasses, etc.
If your destination is Cork, it is about a 20 minute bus/cab ride or drive. But the quiet location and local atmosphere of this place (i.e. a local pub downstairs with local music and dance!) far outweigh the distance you have to travel to get to the city for nightlife activities.

We stayed for 3 nights,. We were welcomed by a man who I think was the general manager. He carried our bags to our room, which was very helpful.
The room and ensuite was lovely, full refurbished. There was complimentary bottled water and tea making facilities. We were very happy.
We ordered food in the bar, which was very tasty, plenty of it and very well presented. The breakfast was delicious with plenty on the menu, which was cooked to order.
The staff were amazing, they really could not do enough for you. Pleasant and chatty even though they were extremely busy, which seemed to be at all times.
We only had 2 small issues:
1. The manager that I referred to at the start seemed to be a jekyll and Hyde character, he came across as very abrupt, bordering on being downright rude to the staff, he barked orders at them across the bar or dining room having no regard that there were customers there as we'll as other members of staff, then he'd be off singing happy birthday to customers, he just came across as not a very nice boss, Jekyll and Hyde. The other staff were working so hard, we just felt sorry for them.
2. The lights in the bathroom across from the bar were never on. I'm not sure if this was because they were restricted because of covid or just an oversight.
Covid rules were good, masks were worn by the staff and sanitising areas was adhered to.
All in all an excellent stay. Maybe a word in the managers ear about his attitude.

Went to “Johnnie’s” (as it’s called locally) for a family lunch today and the service was simply awful. My husband asked what the pasta dish on the specials menu was (there was no description on the menu) and he was advised by the non-interested waitress that it was like a bolognese so he ordered that. Over 30 minutes later our food arrived…the pasta dish ended up being a seafood dish, nothing at all like a bolognese. At that stage we were just happy to get some food so he decided to say nothing and ate it. We asked 3 times for some water but it never arrived, so after 40 minutes I decided to go inside to the bar area and grab a jug of water that was sitting on the bar counter..
The waitress disappeared and was replaced by a stressed and overwhelmed young waiter who was trying to do his best to manage orders, process payments, seat customers etc. but the situation was awkward for everyone….we were all just looking at each other shrugging our shoulders and feeling part sorry for the waiter and part annoyed that management of this very busy restaurant decided it was ok to staff it with 1 waiter and 1 waitress.
Even if something unexpected happened, like 1 or 2 rostered staff didn’t show up this morning, it would’ve been better to close off part of the restaurant and not accept any more customers until the situation was under control.
Instead unsuspecting customers sat down to experience really slow and poor service.
This situation hasn’t been the first instance of really slow service here but today’s episode was just too much. It was just really unfair on your staff and unpleasant for your customers. Hire more staff and train them properly please!!!!!

It wasn't just one thing. The entire stack of dominoes fell.
Reserved Sunday lunch for four adults and two smallies. The table was there upon arrival but there was an atmosphere of quiet panic hanging over the dining room.
Serving staff wandering about looking bewildered as the service bell from the kitchen grew in volume and frequency.
Our order was taken after some gestures by us at the passing staff. At this stage we were almost surrounded by other guests who were wandering aimlessly trying to find somewhere to sit. Obviously never heard of a seater-greeter.
Two of our party ordered starters, soup, and two of us did not.
Then the real fun began.
We requested that the children's' meals would arrive with the starters.
They did - as did the two starters and the two main courses for the other, non-starter, customers. This meant that two were on their starter and two were eating their turkey and ham.
However, as we soon discovered, the two main courses we received were not for us at all leaving other customers waiting for their mains.
We then discovered that nothing had been done to prepare the main courses for the customers who had starters so the delay was extended.
A minor detail was that the table was not properly laid.
The bell in the kitchen was now playing a symphony. And still the relatively large number of bewildered staff busied themselves doing little, Even cleaning down a table became a major chore.
There was no offer of dessert. I guess they had written us off as customers.
There was also no concession for the shabby treatment.
Amateur night would have been a suitable description of the performance.
Taking too many customers in can be a poor strategy especially when you are unable to cater for them.
Pity. The food was good.

Arrived to castle hotel waited to be sitted but no one came so we seated ourselves in the restaurant.
No one bothered to come near us and we had to ask for drinks and menu.
Both duty manager and bar man were very unfriendly no smiles or warm greeting.
Drinks came and orders taken by duty manager again no pleasantness or warm feeking at all
Not even one smiile by the lady. Very disappointing as i work with the public myself and i know how we should have been treated.
Food came and no sauces more drinks etc were offered.
Sadly hotel was let down by staff.
As food was absolutely gorgeous.
But with staff like that u wont get many returning customers sadly.

I've been here many times and have never been disappointed with my experience. I came here recently for my Grandad's birthday for the first time since lockdown, and had an absolutely gorgeous meal out with my family. The outdoor setting was beautiful and bright. They had plenty of vegetarian options and the prices were reasonable! Will 100% be back!

Enjoyed a two night stay here in September 2021. Hotel was perfectly situated for visiting Cork and surrounding area. Lovely walk to the beautiful gardens surrounding Blarney Castle with the opportunity to kiss The Blarney Stone from the hotel. Lively evenings in the hotel bar and food good quality. Our room overlooked the green and was very clean and serviced well. Would recommend hotel stay.

Expensive but worth it. I wish I had left more time to explore the site - there is so much more than the castle to see. It was great to be inside a castle that was still standing, going up crazy narrow circular staircases. Go see the witches kitchen etc in the rock glad to the left (on the map they give you). Worth it!

Upon visiting the castle we called in here for a quick lunch before heading to Galway and eventually home. Service was very good and we were seated near the fire in the bar. The soup was delicious it was probably the nicest I have tasted besides my mother's. It was tomato and basil and served with the nicest brown soda bread. We both had a sandwich special which was so tasty we almost licked the plate. It seems to be a busy place with local people. We both had a coffee which finished off our lunch perfectly.
