Curry devotees have been worshipping at the temple of Ashoka since the 80s. This, the chains Glasgow South Side branch, was created to appease folk from south of the river who loved the brand but hated the travel. Boasting an interior with a Last Days of the Raj meets style bar look, Ashoka has the kind of atmosphere which appeals more to bhuna babes than the middle aged lads on a rampage who frequent your average curry house. The interior may be pared down but the menu is packed with Indian favourites as well as house specialities, leaving even decisive diners with a difficult decision to make.

We went to try out the new menu and were really impressed. It’s all a bit different from the usual standard curry restaurant fare, so no chicken tikka masala or lamb bhuna, but it all was great. Plenty of choices for both starters and mains....Definitely recommend.More

Midweek on Wednesday I phoned the Ashoka Southside to order a take away which I intended to collect myself. I spoke to a member of staff who asked what I wanted and when I was half way through telling him I was told that the...order was too large, that they were too busy to provide it and that I should “phone back tomorrow” ! The order was for a special occasion & our guests had arrived. The order consisted of two starters and four main meals, hardly a banquet. I have dined at the Ashoka Southside for a long time & I have never been refused a request for a take away. The following day I sent an e-mail to the restaurant and copied in the head office asking what the problem was. That was four days ago and still no response.A very poor performance from the Ashoka.More

Tiny restaurant, but the staff, especially the manager outstanding. On arrival quickly seated, menus produced and drinks supplied. Ordered the paroka starters, tastee, plenty of. The mains were great value especially the chicken tikka, overall great value with Cobra and Carling on draught will return.

This was our first visit to family in Glasgow since lockdown was lifted. We enjoyed our evening here. Under new management, they are keen to welcome new customers. We were offered a new complimentary dish to try cant remember what they were called but were...little balls of deliciousness which was a nice touch. We had a table of 4 including one vegetarian and one with a celery allergy. All were well served. Varied and interesting menu. The chana pooree was delicious and nicely presented as were the mixed pakora. I had the Ashoka traditional chicken curry which was lovely, other dishes on the table included the Desi jalfrezi which was spicy hot and tasty, one of us had the vegetarian hotpot which was an unfamiliar dish, but very tasty, and the 4th dish on the table was a chicken bhuna which was also lovely. We were all happy with our choices, served with steamed rice and large nan breads. They dealt with the celery allergy very well, serving pakoras cooked separately from the others to avoid any trace of celery and made sure they flagged up any trace celery elements. Certainly made us feel safe and well looked after. I would recommend this place and hope to return sometime. There was a small problem with the wifi when we went to pay so after a few attempts we paid with cash. They are planning a wifi upgrade so hopefully this won't be a problem in future.More

Once again, we visited this little restaurant for dinner. It is now under new management and the place has gone under refurbishment giving a more modern look. The quality of the food was very good for all the dishes that we tried. Both starters and...main courses arrived nicely presented and tasted freshly and aromatically. The restaurant has also carry out available which we also tried few days ago and was equally nice. The staff were very welcoming and engaged well with guests. Overall, we would definitely recommend this restaurant and we plan to revisit.More

Fantastic restaurant, very tasty food and new owners are brand new. Paneer Saag was a particular highlight but all of our meals were great. Garlic Naan also cooked to perfection.

1st dinner out and new owners so much to play for. Adjusted menu with larger vegan and vegetarian option too but all the favourites still there otherwise. Complimentary poppadoms and onions whilst we waited were a nice touch. The mains were superb and without doubt...fabulous cuisine and intimate service and chat made a great night. Thanks to vinnie for that too. Highly recommendedMore
