We found this restaurant by chance while visiting Edinburgh. Great atmosphere and lovely food, probably our best meal during our visit. Mussels in white wine and cream sauce starter and salmon main course ....... perfection.

On the recommendation of the Hotel staff, we went for drinks and ended up staying for dinner. They have a great range of cocktails and we took the opportunity to sample a few just to make sure they knew what they were doing! They do!...More

The oysters on the half shell, fresh olives, Cocktails, steak and bottle of wine were all very good. For a relatively small place, I never felt cramped, despite being a 6'2", 200 pound man. Mind the steps and the birch branches on the way out,...More

And that was just the name of the cocktail. Friendly, and I mean friendly staff happy to chat. Asking about your day. Showing a genuine interest. Sharing stories. All this before we got to the food. Once again not disappointed. Fillet steak cooked to perfection....More

We were in Edinburgh for the day sightseeing and came across this unusual location on the Royal Mile. We were drawn down the tiny alleyway with the willow arch and spent a lovely hour having fab cocktails and a tasty lunch. I had the Skittles...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

Monteiths kitchen prides itself on using great quality ingredients that are locally sourced where possible. Provenance is hugely important and we work closely with our suppliers to ensure that our food comes from farm, to plate as quickly as possible. Although we frequently change our menu to reflect the changing seasons we also have a range of specials including dry aged fillet steaks and chateaubriand available. There is also a selection of seasonal dishes from the sea including fresh Scottish lobster and oysters
