An excellent menu with good portions. I had a mixed tandoori starter and a lamb madras which was excellent. The staff were very friendly and the place, including the toilets, very clean. A friend recommended Lancers to me as he is a regular diner there, I wasn't disappointed and will certainly visit again next time i am in the Stockbridge... More

4 of us went here. We started will popadoms then had 2 mixed kebabs to share as starter we all had a different main course had a taste of all yum yum and the usual nans rice and of course had to wash it down with large cobras. Menu different from other Indian restraunts. So if you want a v... More

Having walked past the restaurant earlier today and read the menu we decided to visit it this evening. Lancers is tastefully decorated, with comfortable seating. We ordered Garlic chicken, and Ginger Murgh, pulao rice and a chick pea Dahl. Everything was delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal out.

This isn't a 'fancy' restaurant, but for its type this really is excellent. I visited recently with my husband and we thoroughly enjoyed our food (highly recommend garlic chicken and garlic naan). The meat was tender and fresh tasting and the bread tasted fresh too. The service was fast and friendly and we were very happy with our experience. We... More

Far from the crowd from the fringe, we found this place to enjoy a lovely diner. The service was very fast and friendly and the food was very good and very tasty without being spicy (at least for the dishes we selected). Portions were generous. We would definitely go back

Gorgeous food. So good I wish I was enjoying it with someone else! Service was exceptional too. Phoned up to check about accessibility before I went and they said without me even asking that there was no disabled toilet but found out as I got there that there is a public one with a radar key literally next door. After... More

I was so pleased we visited this restaurant. It was recommended to us by a local friend in Edinburgh. The starters were not anything particularly special however, the currys we had for main were exceptional. We had a range of currys of different levels of spice and each one was so unique from the other ( which is sometimes hard... More

We popped in after a Fringe event...a motley crew of 9. Having tried a couple of restaurants before who turned us away, or gave us a huge waiting time; the staff at Lancers were fast and accommodating. A table for us all for quickly set up and the service was superb. Drinks came quickly, then the main meal was ordered.... More

We ate dinner here and enjoyed our food.We were served by three waiters[never good] however most of the workload seemed to fall on the younger of the three which left him stretched and gaps in the service. For example we werent offered desserts or coffees and on the drinks list we could see no wine by the glass, one waiter unsure... We were a bit hesitant to visit having seen some reviews and the relative rankings, but we got a strong recommendation from the concierge at our hotel and decided to take the risk. We certainly were glad we did! Fabulous dinner for all three of us. Reasonable portions, terrific service. Absolutely no complaints. Would recommend for anyone who like Indian... More

Staying in Stockbridge & Dean Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighbourhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
