The place is special.. we travel from wales and always make it a point to eat there.. the location is ideal and food is probably best you can ever eat in middle eastern cuisine. I simply love this place... I don't believe the price is expensive for what you get.

My partner and I treated ourselves to dinner here a few nights ago. Coming in out of the cold into a warm, cosy, well-lit room was wonderful. We shared a fried potato starter (a huge portion, it was lucky we were hungry!), which came with a delicious salad. For mains, we had Moroccan meatballs and a lamb dish, both of... More

I've been here loads of times with friends. The food is great, the staff friendly and the price is really reasonable. And the fact it's BYOB with no corkage charge makes it all the more appealing, especially if you don't want to spend too much.

We went to this restaurant last night. The place had beautiful traditional decorations. We ordered Joojeh And Gosht kebab. The quality of foods were fantastic and each dishes was enough for one person. The waitress were very kind and respectful. We will try it again for sure.

Whilst staying a few nights in Edinburgh with my son I came across this gem . Friendly attentive service. Amazing freshly cooked food at a reasonable price. Would highly recommend the hummus shawarma for starters. My son said the chicken shawarma platter was the best he had ever had. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be back.

After having a look around the castle, we decided to have some middle eastern food at this restaurant. We had the three-course meal for 2 and it was really good. The course included a variety of their dishes with good quantity. I really enjoyed it.

Pleasant, but not brilliant. Great authentic bread. But many of the dishes tasted "touristy", a problem for so many restaurants too close to the castle. Beirut is more authentic.

This was my first visit after hearing mixed reviews. However, I wasn't disappointed. The food was delicious! The lemon chicken wings were incredible. Everybody said that their food was great, which for a large group is rare! The service was quick and the atmosphere was nice. It's BYOB which everyone seemed to like, just means you have to remember to... More

Honestly the food here was delicious, if I'm ever in Edinburgh again I'll definitely be coming back here. Great ambience. Waiter was lovely but just a little over eager (no need to wander back and forth and constantly hover over customers - sorry!)

Description
Set in the heart of Edinburgh is Hanam's Kurdish and Middle Eastern Restaurant and if you think that's a mouthful, wait until you see what on offer! Voted one of Britain's Top 5 Middle Eastern Restaurants by the Telegraph, owner Ahmed ensures the personal touch, by being there seven days a week to offer advice and banter. The menu offers starters such as falafel and baba ghanoush, main courses that include Kurdish pizzas, vegetarian casseroles and halal meat dishes, such as Kurdish-style lamb biryani. There are also a selection of shish kebabs and desserts. Three courses from this banquet-like menu will cost an average of just £20 per person. And, if you're so inclined, you can even smoke a traditional hookah after your meal.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
