Booked months in advance for Xmas Day dinner for a special Xmas away in Edinburgh. Arrived 10 mins early and told our table wasn't ready and to come back later. Went to Hotel foyer that looked like McDonalds merged with airport departure lounge. Disgusting atmosphere. Went back 20 mins after booking in the same lift as trolley full of food... More

Don't go! They can't cope. It was awful from start to finish.no pre dinner drink offered. Spilt an entire tray of drinks over my mother. Started ridiculously small. Main course lacking in decent vegetables

We stayed at the hotel which is a good choice and went here for breakfast. Despite the nice interior and the nice panorama views of the castle we were disappointed. Breakfast was descent but nothing special and very overpriced!

The highlight of this restaurant is without doubt the wonderful view over Edinburgh Castle. The decor is dated and in need of refurbishment. The food was good but the staff seem to be slightly dis-organised and working to their procedures rather than customer requirements. However, they did check that the food was OK and that we had everything that we... More

Unfortunately the restaurant did not come up to expectations, The place could do with a complete makeover. The waiting staff are attentive, but the chief could do better!

Food was good, view was lovely but the only downside would be the waiters standing over you watching you eat. It's nice to be waited on but me personally would of liked a bit more privacy. Seemed to be a lot of waiters for medium sized room.

We had full breakfast and ordered 3 full Scottish breakfasts and maple syrup pancakes. The food was fine although there was only 1 egg, it specifies 2 on the menu. The coffee was lukewarm and the bacon slightly underdone. The pastries and fruit were nice, the place needs sprucing up a bit though. The service was exceptional, similarly in the... More

This was the main reason for booking this hotel - were taking in the Tattoo and looking forward to dining here to see the fireworks on the following evening. To rub salt into the wound they serve breakfast there !!

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
