This is a nice place and our brunches were good. I had eggs benedict with spinach and salmon (particularly tasty) and my friend had a full breakfast which she enjoyed. The slow service is a shame though. Just over half an hour for what we...More

I've just been to have lunch at Cowan and sons. Had soup which was lovely . I've ordered some carrot cake and got the end of the cake, the crust! It was hard and not soft at all!! If I had a restaurant or coffee...More

Has had a refurb and the decor is quite cool. That was where my positive impressions stopped. It took 20 minutes for two coffees to arrive. When we went to see if they had forgotten them, they said 'no,they're in the queue'. Not friendly either. Check...More

Sad to see this place change. They have gone for the 'hipster/so cool we can charge what we think' approach to even coffees and soup. Not especially clean water carafes or glasses. Skip it. Cafe Plum or Costa across the road are much better for...More

Slightly eclectic place in Stockbridge Main Street. Serves nice soul food style breakfast items. My fave is a take on eggs benedict, wither the poached egg and hollandaise sauce served over black pudding or haggis. Sourdough style toast on the base and some rocket salad...More

It may have recieved a new frontage but would probably be more worthwhile getting a new chef. I have visited this cafe several times and each time saying I will never go back. I ordered a butchers breakfast, basically a full Scottish. Although I cant...More

My partner and I regularly went to Maxis, which has now been rebranded Cowan and Bros, for breakfast. The service has always been lacking, ranging from being slow to forgetting food to not understanding what a fried egg means. After this morning we will never...More

The French toast was excellent and was perfectly done combined with the maple syrup, scrambled eggs and bacon was great. Lovely coffee too. I'm not sure enamel plates are to everyone's taste ! It's pricey but good quality ingredients and very accommodating staff. Personally I'm...More

At a first glance, one may not be sure about what to think of the cracked tiles "decorating" the walls, but if you trust the suppliers of the cheeses and charcuterie, named in the sign outside, and decide to give it a bash you won't...More

Lovely cafe in the heart of Stockbridge. Nice rustic atmosphere inside. Had poached eggs and avocado on sourdough toast and it was excellent. Would highly recommend.

Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling
a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s
small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s
first hip neighbourhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s
most desirable, though many bohemian touches have
fallen away as its residents have matured and the area
has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but
mostly residents display refined tastes in basement
