What an amazing afternoon looking out over Edinburgh Castle and the Square - you also can see down to the water!!! Afternoon tea starts out very civilized - you are offered a gin and tonic sponsored by Saphire Gin - you get a choice of three different tonics and garnishes.... just lovely. On a three tiered stand you are tempted... More

Had morning tea/coffee on the fourth floor of Harvey Nichols. One might expect something special from this prestigious store but I was sadly disappointed. The view over St Andrew Square and to the river Forth was fabulous, the staff were helpful and friendly, but there it ended. The Earl Grey tea came from a cheap tea-bag, served in a battered... Stopped off for a cocktail during a recent shopping trip, but really doesn't live up to the hype. The drinks were ok, but very overpriced due to the bar being where it is. The service was good, although they did seem to pay more attention to bigger groups. An average bar in a great location.

Lots of friend and colleagues told me about here and whilst it was OK and the views were good, it was my opinion that, it was just a big noisy caffeteria. We had 2 cocktails and mine was delicious - Bella Bellini however my husband's Magaritta was not all that great. Staff were nice and efficient. As I say I... More

Came here for pre Easter rush dinner with hubby and what a view. We were early so waited at the bar. Got settled once restaurant opens and it was a pleasant experience. My tuna was absolutely amazing whilst hubby's terrine was extremely delicious. We both opted for lamb (seeing it is Easter) and that was spot on. The centre of... More

We spent a nice Saturday afternoon at the Forth Floor enjoying drinks and nibbles. We were having such a nice time that ended up staying for dinner. The restaurant is bright and airy with lovely views over St Andrew Square and toward the castle. On a sunny day, this is one of the best restaurant views in Edinburgh. It's also... More

Came here with a friend after a business trip for drinks. The view from the fourth floor is lovely! The sun was shining and we sat there enjoying our drinks. We were having such a lovely time that we decided to eat dinner here too. I ordered a side of frieds and a halloumi and veggie couscous salad, which I... More

With the scenery of Edinburgh Castle and the Firth of Forth, the Forth Floor Restaurant at Harvey Nichols certainly has a sense of drama about it. The stylish elements of the decor, such as the circular lights which begin to glow red once the sky becomes darker, and the Scottish flavours found through the restaurant menu all inspire an adventurous dining experience with the finest quality food. Meanwhile, the brasserie makes for an enjoyable alternative, presenting a modern take on conventional European cuisine, and the extensive wine list includes over 350 different varieties of wines and champagnes. During the summer months, it is also possible to enjoy meals outside on the large terrace, overlooking all of Edinburgh.

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
