We had dinner here this week, just like being in Paris, it really was, in terms of decor, service and food. Good fun and very proficient staff. Lovely french cafe style food, produced at just the right pace. Nice sensibly priced wine list.

We had visited the bistro on a visit to Edinburgh a few years ago. We had a few hours to kill so back we went. This visit didn't disappoint and was even better than last time. Food was amazing - simple and tasty. The staff were kind and friendly. And the prices were great too. Can't wait for another trip... More

This restaurant may be small but it packs a Gallic punch. We had blue cheese mussels to start, then Toulouse saucisson and lamb stew and ooh la la every mouthful of food was bursting with flavour. The French waiters gave the restaurant added authenticity.

What a find, excellent. Very welcoming and excellent staff. Keep room for the creme brûlée and a small glass of calvados. Ardderchog!

Dropped in for lunch with a friend and both of us ordered off the set menu, which still gave us a fair number of nice-sounding choices. As it was 1pm, the top level of the restaurant was pretty full so we took a table downstairs where there was more than enough room. I had the crayfish to start and at... More

A fantastic find. Authentic french style restaurant, cramped tables, small kitchen, etc But all adds to the ambience. The menu deal is only a subset of the full menu but had what we wanted (except for the snails). Food was delicious. House wine was perfect too. We got there at 530pm - suggest you book early unless you like it... More

My wife and I dined here on our 1st night in Edinburgh, we were led down to the basement room which was simply decorated and sported Gingham shiny tablecloths giving a very rustic feel to the place. The staff were all French and spoke with very heavy accents and oozed friendliness. The French onion soup was probably the best I... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
