I and another teacher took some of our students there for a goodbye dinner. A small group of about 15 in their late teens, very quiet and well behaved Italians, I`m half Italian myself and by everybody`s standards the pizzas were horrible. Although I had booked well ahead of time, they squeezed us all in a corner, there wasn`t enough... More

I was looking for a quick lunch for myself and two sons age 11 and 13 , and was drawn in by the reasonably priced lunchtime menu. One of the main courses was vegetarian pizza and I asked if this could be replaced by margarita pizza....clearly a cheaper and easier version. This was met with hostility as it's not the... More

I had lunch here and the food was really good. The let down was the behaviour of the manager/ likely owner and his waiters. Initially as I started selecting wine the waiter insisted that I wanted the house wine and went of to get it. He did not wait for me to decide. Given I was dinning alone and sat... More

Went here Friday before the Scotland Wales game so busy, but not full when we arrived. Decor very dated, red checked plastic table cloths and cramped table lay out. Waiter stressed and very short with us. No choice of wine by glass- house only which was not nice at all. We were rushed through ordering then waited an hour for... More

My companion and I visited the Rusticana on Friday evening. family run restaurant and it operates as a well oiled machine. very wide ranging menu and a very agreeable specials board We ordered avocado and mussels drenched in a lovely creamy garlic sauce. It was very nice indeed. Our main meal was a fiery meatballs and spaghetti. It was very... More

I have eaten here several times and it is always enjoyable. The service is good, prices are good and the food is always as you would like. this is not a Michelin star but it doesn't pretend to be. They will always get business from me for a relaxing evening.

Three of us visited and chose the special price lunch. We expected small helpings but they were substantial and the Black Forest gateau was very large! The choice was adequate, service good and the food good to taste. At under £8 it is amazing value.

This was such a fantastic Italian restaurant! My new husband and I loved every bite. The owner was so kind and cheerful. The staff was so kind to us even though we came in so late for dinner. A must try Italian restaurant in Edinburgh!

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
