Had lunch with a couple of friends at Kalpna's a few days ago. The food wasn't up to standard and especially not worth the price. The starters we ordered tasted a bit off and may have been microwaved as tasted stale. The naans were tough and the palak paneer did not have much paneer in it and tasted over spiced.... More

Generally polite staff and clean restaurant . We ordered the chilli paneer and dhal tharka. Both dishes were over priced for what they were and the paneer was extremely rich with added cream , in fact made us feel unwell after . Also ordered a plain lassi which wasn't a lassi at all. It was more like yoghurt out of... More

Visited on return from Skye with full family. father and father in law loved food so much. Staff help prepared all dishes quickly for us and had roties made from real wheat flour not just from Menda.

Was hopeful of finding a good vege place when I read the menu This was unfortunately not the case, the amount of food I got for what I paid was absolutely ridiculous, this I wouldn't have minded so much if the food was even half decent Would avoid at all costs The food in the picture cost £21.85 £4.95 for... Visited the restaurant 4 times in a week during my trip to Edinburgh in November 2016. It was undoubtedly the best Indian food I had outside India. A must visit for Indian food lovers.

Genuinely Indian restaurant, good variety, great taste and enough quantity! Must try here if you love Indian food. We went there at their opening time , we were first one and then soon one by one all tables were full. I found lots of locals here. bit slow service but we can understand that as they were very busy. Delicious... More

Fab place. Food was delicious and restraunt is so lovely inside. Our waiter was so awesome and it was very comforting to know there are no nuts in any of the food and my meal was completely vegan. Yummy!

I have been to Kalpna twice and I hope to go there many times in the future. The food is really good. There are plenty of things to try for a fixed price. The staff are very helpful and the manager is a very nice lady. I went there today for lunch with a friend, and we both enjoyed it... More

We were on visit of Scotland and Edinburgh from India, after a long day of sightings we have search and find this Marvellous vegetarian restaurant right in the middle of edinburgh. Since we have not found pure vegetarian food since a week coming here was a gem of the decisions. Amazing food taste very authentic and didn't make us miss... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
