It was a long time ago that I was last in Contini's. This former bank building was elegantly converted into an Italian restaurant. When we came, early evening, the place was not busy and staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. I chose the risotto and my friend had the tagliata, and he much enjoyed the chargrilled beef. The risotto was... More

We came here last time we were in Edinburgh, about a year ago, and it was a nice Italian restaurant but nothing particularly special. What a difference! Tonight we've had some amazing food and wines and because of their new menu we didn't come out feeling absolutely stuffed, just very pleasantly filled. Mozzarella di bufala and beef carpaccio shared between... More

Great place for lunch when shopping, this restaurant is located towards the Charlotte Square end of George Street. We ate a good selection of Italian food in an interesting interior. Very good service from friendly staff. A few tables looked on the small side but most - including the one we had - were a good size.

Had lunch on Sunday there. No one manning the reception desk. Wonderful interior. Found a waiter who then ushered me to my table. Friend wanted to order soup as a starter- was none. She had the crab salad which was good. She asked the waitress for bread and was told she would have to ask? Ask for bread, really? My monkfish... More

This restaurant has had a makeover in its name and menu. Housed in an old bank with grand surroundings, the venue is spacious and comfortable. Staff were welcoming and especially good with the 3 young children in the party. The new menu features delicious home-made pasta. We ordered a selection of primi and secondi dishes which we shared between us.... More

Contini (formerly "Cento Tre") is an elegant restaurant having at one time been a classic Georgian-styled bank in its heyday. Although somewhat 'echo-ey' due to its vast internal dimensions, it is certainly comfortable and amenable with a nice ambience. Food is excellent, with genuine Italian fayre not often found in a lot of Italian restaurants. Pleasant and efficient service tops... More

Booked to meet my brother and his wife here for lunch. The restaurant was half full which made the atmosphere calm and friendly. The service was good, not rushed but attentive enough when required. There is a full drinks menu including non alcoholic cocktails, the amalfi limonata tasted refreshing and is recommended. The carpaccio with rhubarb was light and tasty.... More

An excellent dining experience. The restaurant is spacious and confortable. The service is quick, efficient and friendly. And, above all, the food is superb. Personally, I strongly recommend the lamb chops.

Contini George Street, Victor and Carina Contini’s flagship Italian restaurant, has relaunched with a brand new menu, décor and dining experience.

A new menu, with a focus on small plates that can be shared, has been introduced, as well as a refreshed wine list and cocktail selection inspired by classic Italian drinks.

The new Contini George Street menu features dishes such as Salame Calabrese with roasted aubergine, mint, crème fraiche and pistachio crumb; cod poached in cold pressed olive oil with fennel, samphire and chili; and a raw cauliflower, porcini and lemon oil salad with breadcrumbs and Venetian spiced walnuts.

Meanwhile, “old favourites” like Contini’s classic Contadino can still be enjoyed, but in smaller, lighter portions.

The wine list offers a choice of over 55 Italian wines by the glass and bottle

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
