Came here for a few drinks late on a Thursday night. Plenty of drinks on offer and very reasonably priced too! A pint of Heineken and glass of prosecco for £7.95. Friendly staff and good music!!!!

Very good place to start the night out with friends and drinks are cheap. Atmosphere is outstanding.

Although Madogs presents itself as a restaurant I'd rather say it is a pub --based on its food. I've dine there once, and although I really enjoyed the atmosphere I didn't find the food memorable.

Went into this place late on Thursday evening as I was aware it was open until 3am, but was only in for half an hour when I realised my expensive jacket had been stolen. The same thing happened to my friend the previous month which just shows you the kind of clientele who frequent there. That will be my last... More

Popped in here to meet a local friend whilst on a girls shopping weekend in Edinburgh. One particular member of staff just seemed to make it his jobs mission to ignore us, we'd stand at the bar for ages while he served everyone else around us, and anyone who walked up behind us, very odd, I know the Scotts aren't... Had a drink in here as we were walking by, as they had a live DJ on. Music was okay, people were enjoying themselves, found a place to sit and people watch.

AVOID!!!! Had the frozen strawberry daqs £5 each. Used to come here all the time for cocktails but these were absolutely disgusting. Pre made slushy rubbish. Really disappointed. Said to staff who all proceeded to discuss us and have a good look but nobody came over to offer a refund or offer us drinks to the same value. Never again.

Came across this place when we were looking for somewhere to eat. The steaks are to die for! The service is very efficient and friendly. The food was all good quality, the steaks were cooked to perfection and it had a lively atmosphere. I will return when I'm next in Edinburgh. Thank you so much for a lovely night!

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
