It's been here for years, hasn't changed too much, does decent beer and decent food at reasonable prices. Snug warm bar in winter. Popular with locals of the Stockbridge area.

Great service and cosy setting. Not too busy. Wine selection ok but the beers were better. Friendly bar staff.

Recently visited the Bailie for a team Christmas night out. It was just great! The staff at the Bailie are so friendly and attentive. It's warm and welcoming and the food is excellent! I had a 10oz rump steak which was cooked to perfection. It was really good value at about £13.50. The burgers and fish and chips all looked... More

It's been a long time since I was in this bar and it hasn't changed a great deal - it is still steeped in character. Great woodwork and quality décor. Dogs enjoy the atmosphere as well. I sat outside with my two half pints - Timothy Taylor's Landlord and Jarl Blonde Ale enjoying the sun, reading my book and enjoying... More

Our group has been to the Bailie Bar many times. Its a keeper on our list every time we return to Edinburgh. The kitchen puts out some decent pub food- but beware- if you get there late some specials may be sold out. We come to the Bailie on QuizMaster nights to play the game and enjoy the food and... Great place to visit. Food is excellent, one of the biggest portion of Fish&Chips i have ever seen!! :) great soups... Very friendly and polite staff. it seemed like most of the customers were locals which usually means that the place is good. I usually don't go to the same place twice when on trip, but couldn't resist to come... More

Staying in Stockbridge & Dean Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighbourhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
