It still baffles me as to how something so delicious can be so inexpensive. All pies in the store are below £3, and a solid meal can consist of two or three. Which leaves me wondering not only why I was spending £10-£15 per meal, but also how I will survive without consuming these daily upon my return to the... More

Piemaker offer pies and sausage rolls baked with artesan care, friendly service and a great opening schedule. I have been hundreds of times, tried everything on offer. Sometimes some of the experiments they do don't turn out great, but you have to try new things in life and I never regret trying them. The stock pies are unbeatable.

Pies are superb, homemade and baked daily. They taste really good and are very cheap (1,2 to 2,5£). Give the Piemaker a try! (Ps: Cash only)

Walking by and they had a big picture of the macaroni and cheese pie and yes it worked. That is why I came in. I really liked it, gooey mac and cheese shaped like a tartlet in a pie crust for only one pound 20. Great to munch on while walking around also as not really messy. I would have... More

The piemaker has several pies and pasties that are all vegan friendly and huge! I tried the cherry pie and it was delicious my friends tried the savoury rings and apple pies and everyone really liked the food. There are a few stools and high tables inside too so you don't have to takeaway.

The pies were inexpensive and very tasty. They were a wonderful and warm treat for a picnic at Arthur's Seat.

Although I am not a pastry fan. I chose this place because it was a very affordable an authentic lunch near the start of our guided tour. There are no tables as such, instead a long wall mounted table either side of the door and 8-9 high stools maximize the small available indoor space. It would have been nicer and... More

The quality of the pies is very good, a lot of choices (both meat, vegetarian and vegan)! Very friendly, the only less awesome thing is that there are not a lot of seats, but you can just take the food to go.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
