Working away from home and was craving a good curry but also feeling lazy so ordered from the restaurant at the bottom of the street - 1 min walk away!!! When I ordered I specifically asked them not to use oil if possible or the least amount and the guy said of course but when I got the food back... More

We are frequent diners at the OK and love the food. No exception this time with great food, large portions and attentive service. On to my comment regarding the drinks. I ordered a pint of Kingfisher which is priced at £4.25 which is reasonable for Edinburgh restaurants. However I decided to order a half pint of Kingfisher later as I... More

Very busy but great service. Make sure to book in advance but don't be late as you will have a long wait. Great food and service. I'll be back.

Maybe it was the time of day we were going or they need to advertise more. This place must be the best Indian restaurant that I have been to. The decor is fine dining and all the staff are dressed very smart. The service is very efficient, which will be good for the majority of people who want to eat... More

Near the Haymarket railway station, tram stop and many buses, it is easy to reach. Near to hotels in the Haymarket area. Can get very busy but the staff quickly clear tables which reduces any waiting time.

Walked passed this restaurant and decided to give it a go. The staff were very helpful and even thought the restaurant was busy every table was being quickly served and well looked after. We had a starter and a main and the food was served quickly and well. Personally I found the food a little spicy but my husband said... More

Here for the final and once again had to visit Omar's. The food was plentiful, delicious and really hit the spot. The staff are so pleasant , nothing too much trouble. Saved the day too as my friend left behind her walking stick and they ran after us to give it to her! Can't praise highly enough and will be... More

Visited with a friend for an evening curry. The restaurant was buzzing and consequently the atmosphere was good. Despite being busy, we were well looked after and our food came out quickly. We started with popadoms and I had a lamb bhuna to follow. All very tasty indeed and well prepared. Overall a pleasant evening, friendly staff and great food.... More

Restaurant looked lovely inside HOWEVER, when we sat down at our table we were asked if we wanted poppadoms. I thought this was starters and i said for veg pakora, the waiter said this is just some nibbles for now. We had no menu or anything at this point so it seemed liked we were going to get some poppadoms... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
