We had nacho's for 4 and they tasted great! Also great variety in beers and whisky's. Service wasn't too great, so that makes it 3 out of 4.

First place we stopped at on our little mini break and the boyfriend as in Scotland was demanding ' proper' Scottish food and this place didn't disappoint. He decided on Haggis whilst I was the more reserved scampi. Lovely extensive list to drink be it wine / beer or whiskey. Food was lovely my boyfriend is now fully converted to... More

This is really a restaurant with a bar. We were welcomed and served very tasty well cooked meals. Fish and chips was delicious. Good selection of bottled/canned beers, not so much on tap. All reasonably priced for the location.

Visited this pub again today and it was just as good as last time. Had a bite to eat as well which was lovely. Great staff and atmosphere in place and everyone is made so welcome. We will be back.

Enjoyed a great gluten free meal consisting of a large cider, spicey chicken wings and traditional fish and chips. My partner also said the beef burger was great. Nice atmosphere and traditional pub setting.

We popped in for lunch and got a seat and was served straight away. Ordered drinks and Scampi & chips followed by stickytoffee pudding and apple clumber. Drinks and food came prompt and was average however the chips were pretty budget and the crumble was brown on the top, dry and not the best we ever had. However stickytoffee pudding... More

This place has a great range of single malt whiskers, and my husband and I have spent many afternoons here over the last few years sampling different drams from the No 1 High Street's extensive whiskey list. They serve great food here too - I'd highly recommend the haggis, tatties and neeps.

Had dinner here on Robbie Burns night. Did not opt for the traditional menu of soup followed by haggis, but did choose to have whisky relish on my burger as a nod to the occasion. Nice staff and great to hear live music and meet some locals.

Went here twice while here for a long weekend, nice atmosphere and friendly staff, Service was excellent Not many tables away from the bar which was quite crouded both times so had to wait a bit for a table to eat, other than that the food was faultless we had the No.1 Burger which was lovely!!

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
